Ugh! Gave him 11 amulets and he didn't give me a single tome! Nor did he unlock himself as a challenger...

Depending on how tough he is.

If he's very tough, I'm expecting him to drop Tome of Life, Tome of Death and the new book

If he's tough, I'm expecting him to drop only one tome

But nah, not expecting him to drop potions.

After reading the subpedia entry i thought the answer might be to have a shinwa or oracle item in my invent while using mage amulets. That didnt work. I used an earth, water and death amulet

The description of the book also mentions the Graveyard potion. That's more than likely his 5th win loot drop, no?

The story of the graveyard potion in the item description and a reference to it in the news post, hm. Wonder if it has something to do with graveyard pets.

I have a feeling you get him as a challenger after getting X number of shards in a row.

My shard luck stopped at five.

I tried that and nada. death amulets have no effect on the master of death... maybe try a life one next time?

Probably so, I just thought it might be a hint as to how to unlock him as well. Can't test it myself though, not sure what else it could be if it doesn't involve any of his items.

I tried using a tome, that wasn't it. Visited him with all the shards in my inventory, BUT I don't have Ice and Wind. Maybe we need the new versions of amulets, tomes, shards etc. too.

I'm thinking it might involve having one of each of the amulets in your inventory or visiting him with one of each. Will need to wait until people get the Ice and Wind ones to test this theory though.

bought 5 amulets to see if that's how you unlock him, got 3 tomes. not bad at all.

someone please ping me when this is figured out, though I am thinking it might be a random thing.

Well, I just turned in three amulets and got all shards/no challenger. Maybe you have to get a tome to unlock him?
