Food Market: New Salts and Butter
You now have more options for salt when you bake at my Bakery! You can find these new salts as well as two new butter like items at the Food Market.

It's great they're making alternatives for the ingredients. Unfortunately no matter which recipe I want to attempt at least 1 ingredient is still selling for a million or more. Think I'll wait maybe a couple months until prices come down to reasonable levels. Nice there are more recipes and options.

all of the recipes I've been able to access have had Salt as an ingredient, over on the right side of the screen-- the ingredients that have to be exact, that can't be substituted with anything. it makes sense that it'd be in every recipe, really, since salt is a crucial ingredient in pretty much everything IRL. :D

this is actually better, though. instead of only being able to use one item, you can use any of these items instead. the plain Salt item is so expensive and hard-to-find because it was, until now, the only item you could use, and everyone wanted it. now there are alternative items, meaning that with time, all of these items will eventually decrease in price and be easier to restock.

Fantine's Bakery is more horrible now :D It was expensive before and now, with salt in recipes it's imposible for "normal" users without x milliards sP on their accounts....

Generally speaking, using buttermilk in baking is actually good (you're encouraged to substitute it). I don't know where you're getting the idea that it would "be sour and fail" from bruh... But you're wrong. Cakes/cupcakes (and pancakes, biscuits, and other sweeter quick breads) can thrive on it because buttermilk adds flavor (chemical reactions, the acidic nature + baking soda = bubbles, which results in flavor and fluff). It's also why some cake recipes specifically call for vinegar and baking soda to be added at the end. Things go boom. The other ingredients in the recipe override the buttermilk/vinegar (they also get baked out some)... Some of the best cakes also call for sour cream. Sugars, eggs, extracts, flours, and possibly cocoa mask this. Hell, one of the best recipes I own has a layer of just sour cream, sugar, and vanilla and literally no one catches on.
Not sure about cookies, though I don't see why you couldn't use buttermilk in recipes that call for milk (unless it's for the frosting... then iunno about that). It may make them a bit puffier and cake-y.

@Solsticesprite Eh, good point! But then again in any recipe with flour on Subeta you can use cornmeal instead, even though it wouldn't work the same as flour in all of them.
@MythLore while cooking in Subeta doesn't have to work like RL, in RL buttermilk does not behave like milk. In most recipes if you substitute buttermilk for milk it isn't just that the resulting product will be sour, the recipe will fail.
Thanks! Although salt wasn't really my problem, I have a lot of it already. It'd be nice to get some mint, peaches, pumpkin syrup, etc showing up in the MC bags. I just got a ton of the new salts when opening them, which is cool, but only managed to get honey out of the rare ingredients (need to go change my forum title back to "salty").

Now if the only item I still need for the next recipe wasn't still selling for a million that would be nice. These are cool though. I actually have a bottle of special pink salt that I use, for some reason it tastes better.
There's a typo for the omen red salt: "It's red due to clay particles present in the salt." It should be its. Otherwise mm salt

Finally some more salt. I haven't been able to even start on baking because that salt was so expensive haha
