A Distant Rumble

A distant boom is heard, then a rumble shakes the base camp.
Oh man, pretend you didn’t hear that. Ol’ Dom went off to answer the call of nature, and let’s just say I got a bit impatient and… well, the door’s open now. That’s the important part, right?
Remember, you didn’t hear a thing and we didn’t talk!

It must be the curse...
I know battles like this require tweaking, but due to my work schedule (yes, even with a 6 hour window) this was the only one I could spend any time wearing down and I only fit in about a dozen battles because it was defeated :(

I probably won't end up getting the boss at this rate/the achievement for it since I need to sleep and really must get it due to me having a 13 hour day at college tomorrow (tuesday.)
imo, there shouldn't have been any tweaking to begin with. leave it up for as long as it takes.

"The second and third bosses will not be tweaked and will last as long as they last."
O........kay.
O........kay.
The second and third bosses will not be tweaked and will last as long as they last... Well sugar, I think the third needs to be tweaked if the second was anything to go by. Can I go back to sleep now, when will the next challenger be available? Because I don't want to come back on 10am subeta time to find that it's already bloody dead!
It sorta looks like they mistakenly started the second boss at the same level that they cht the first boss down to when they finally tweaked it. If that makes sense...

wtf? I went to go check out the second boss and it wasn't 'aggressive'... come back not even 10 minutes later, and it's already dead?!

Excellent plan, excellent plan. Gone less than 10 minutes after being put in because he was given no health?
Maybe let's get our crap together before we release a challenger?
Maybe let's get our crap together before we release a challenger?

Okay, so the first boss takes 6 hours and they have to knock him down because hes taking so long to kill, now not even 10 minutes and the 2nd boss is defeated, am i missing something?
i am...not a battle expert but i am assuming that world bosses are not supposed to go down in 8 minutes? lol?

Wait, I just got up at 2am subeta time to find that the left flanking guard had already been practically killed and that the right flanking guardian has already been defeated?! How can that be 5 minutes into the boss being able to be fought?!?!

My tier 3 pet Harry Dresden lost after one hit sigh so I haven't played the battle again because it's a giant waste of my time :(

@Speiro
I'm in complete agreement with that assessment (unfortunately). I think bothering at all in the first battle was clearly a waste of our time, since the people in the later waves (or most certainly in the middle wave at least) will have a much better chance at getting in a lot of damage before the boss is gone.

That's the part I was talking about before. Assuming that it's done as one combined score list like you say, then I think we're at a disadvantage since we battled the first phase.Further, if the highest damage dealt to any boss by any one person was 25m, then Person A is in the top spot for battling because they did the 25m on boss 2 (Like, the bosses do not all count towards our score, but they're not splitting up the top battlers by boss, it's just whoever did the most damage total, but they're not adding those three scores together).

If I understand this correctly, the later bosses will get the same 300m HP that the first one effectively had after they tweaked it. The problem is that there will likely be fewer people battling so late at night, meaning phase 2 will last longer than 6 hours.We may tweak the first boss's HP if necessary for timing, but any changes will also be reflected in subsequent bosses. The second and third bosses will not be tweaked and will last as long as they last.
An 8 hour battle without lag has a pretty clear advantage over a laggy 6 hour battle, and putting us on the same high score list will probably favor phase 2. We might be bumped off the high score list and miss out on prizes just because we picked the wrong phase to battle in.

@PrincessJudith
No problem - however there's no sense in fighting in the morning unless you think you can do more total damage than you already did tonight (just don't want you to waste your time/effort)

Thanks so much for the information. I am new here and the instructions were not clear to me. But I am still off to bed. Hope I can get in a few licks in the morning

@PrincessJudith
They aren't active yet. One (probably the other guardian) will activate in about 20 minutes. The final one will activate around 10am subeta time. You do not have to fight all three. Your battles will only count for one (unless you use a different pet for each one). Staff said that only your highest damage total from one of the challengers would count (so if you only have one battle pet and you did 10,000 total damage on the first guardian, then you fight the second guardian and the final boss and did less than that on either/both, you'd only be scored for the 10,000 you did on the first one).
Each boss will last approximately 6 hours (far less for this one since there was a puzzle to solve, then it ended 10-20 minutes before the six hour cutoff time). If you use a different pet, each pet used will be scored for it's highest total damage done to a singular boss.
Does that make more sense?

@PrincessJudith - The other flanking guardian should be out at 2am, and the final boss comes out at 10am.

What am I missing?? I only fought the Right Flanking Guardian. I never saw the other two as challengers.

@Speiro
If I understood correctly, they're counting only the top scores overall per pet (whichever boss you did best on).
So if Person A does 20m damage on boss 1, 25m on boss 2, and 10m on boss 3 - they're only going to look at the damage they did to boss 2. Further, if the highest damage dealt to any boss by any one person was 25m, then Person A is in the top spot for battling because they did the 25m on boss 2 (Like, the bosses do not all count towards our score, but they're not splitting up the top battlers by boss, it's just whoever did the most damage total, but they're not adding those three scores together).
Does that even make sense? I know what I mean but I feel like that is not clear at all.

Ah, yeah. Didn't even think of that. And yeah, shoving the puzzle into this wave was pretty meh. At least it was a 'standard solution' thing but that didn't really help anyone who didn't realize to go looking for it.
@Reaper
Yupp, I just totally read it wrong/further fed that assumption based on the appearances of the mobs. But yeah, that means #1 was let sit even even longer than I thought :/

@Tribunal - I think what Prplecat was saying is that if they use the same HP from this boss like they said they would, the other two phases will likely last longer than 6 hours (especially phase 2, since it's late at night). If it lasts longer, someone could battle for 8 hours and beat our scores from the first phase easily.
What happens then? If top prizes are awarded within each phase, then we're ok. But if they're mixing the rankings together, then everyone who battles through phase 2 will easily knock the rest of us off the high score list and we're screwed out of prizes.
I don't know what's happening anymore. I appreciate that they tried to implement some of the suggestions from the last war, but this is so confusing.

@Tribunal
Yeah, it's just the three total.
It had over 300m health out of 600m left when I finished one fight. In the process of starting the next fight (less than 2 minutes later), they'd managed to 0 out his health and remove him as a challenger. So unless the next two are done exactly the same (and we factor in the time lost to having to solve a damned puzzle too)...there's just no way it can be fair and accurate for each round (like they said it would be).

Ah, I thought it was to be an identical set of 3 (2 minis, 1 main) each time. I did misread that. Wouldn't have aimed to check back had I realized, so that's on me.
Does mean I'm even more confused who's health went where though, given the time period I was checking where it was only 1/3. And that means adjustments were done after #1 and just.. it's phrased awkwardly but the concerns still stand. WTF was the thought process here.

The flanking guardians count - they're supposed to all be weighted the same (them plus the main thing), one boss per time section, one damage count per pet. So I wasted a lot of time assuming we'd have the full 6 hours or more since the health was so high. Now if I want to try again I have to stay up late even though I have work and school tomorrow (and forget the final boss time - I'll be in class and then at work, like I was for over half of this first time slot). I...would've rather had total cumulative damage tbh.

@Prplcat
You aren't being judged cumulatively. 1 boss counts, one you do most damage to:
Just so you know/can consider from there.

They actually haven't even clarified if the Flanking Guardians count. They so, so, SO better, but it hasn't been stated.However, each pet's cumulative damage against only one boss (the one they damaged the most) will count.

"We may tweak the first boss's HP if necessary for timing, but any changes will also be reflected in subsequent bosses. The second and third bosses will not be tweaked and will last as long as they last."
So...if the next two bosses last longer than the first one, people can get in more battles/damage. But all three will be judged together. Alrighty, then. My efforts may not have been much, but it was a solid 5 1/2 hours. NOT 6...the puzzle had to be done first, then we got "tweaked".

Plus now you're either:
A. Now basically lying about the next two bosses being identical to the first ones
B. Making the next two boss-bosses go super fast after agonizing minibosses
or
C. Undoing all that balancing you were so nice and so thoughtful to lay out ahead of time (don't get me wrong, that was -great-, but it requires the monitoring and quick action to make it work).
If you keep the total pool where it was from this first one it needs both: 1. redistributed between the 3 mobs and 2. to count equally in terms of 'points' no matter which mob you were damaging.
Otherwise you're basically just saying 'thanks for being the guinea pigs' to everyone who suffered through this first curve.
And yes, again, highly irritated and posting while rather bothered. Dealwithit.jpg.

Wow... way to sit on it for HOURS when it was obvious the direction it was going, and then suddenly shoot it in the foot.. just no.
Plus no comment on how the next two bosses are going to be handled (again, thanks in part to that HOURS of NOTHING).
Eff I am irritated. I was trying to wait for the boss to put my attempts in after smashing my head at the Flanking Guard for so long and getting sick of it.
Just.. no.

D'awww, I was hoping to at least reach 500k damage, maybe even 1 million! Temple Guardians are sooo unreliable :P

As someone who literally solved the puzzle in 3 minutes and then battled that nonsense for nearly 6 hours straight, my butt thanks you. I'm going to bed on a high note. lol
