This pet is absolutely amazing. It really brings back memories! I loved the era of marquees and blinkies.

Satyr

what a great profile. I have a lot of strong opinions about the artistic merit of web 1.0, so this was a treat for me.

Shark

I love this pet, so nostalgic!

Oh my gosh, the nostalgia is real! My head is now flooded with how personal websites used to be much more wonky with niche topics back in the 90s and early 00s. Even that quip in the credits made me remember when I learned about coding html for the first time on neopets. Good times, good times.

sooo good !!! nostalgia is hitting hard 🥲
i learnt so much about coding from petpages and piczo !!

"Here's to a generation of kids who learned how to code on pet sites." Love it!! Subeta actually helped get me my job with this <3

I did not expect a pet page to make me cry, haha
I love this. the attention to detail and composition perfectly capture another era of time, I cannot express how amazing it is. it reminded me of the website 'matmice'

ahhh this is such a great pet, one of the best I've ever seen!! I too miss "the good old days" of personal homepages etc, I hope it makes a comeback eventually :) This is just too cute.

Kinky

Wow haha. Flashback to when the internet was just starting out. This is so nostalgic. Love it!

Sensuous

i love this! this makes me so nostalgic for neopets and old text-based forums. i remember pasting ALL of the sparkly, flashing, seizure-y gifs everywhere. this era of the internet is dead and it's such a shame.

i was far too young to fully experience web 1.0 in all its glory. by the time i was old enough to care about the internet youtube and twitter were my spaces. so when i learnt about this wild west of the internet, or even its transitory period between wild-west-do-it-yourself to social media sites with ample customization- it became an obsession. i was- still am- obsessed with the idea of making the internet yours to create.

@Jakkalope - amazing work!

stardust

i love this pet so much i would fight god for them.

The Brokd minion. What a flashback.

I absolutely love Web 1.0. The page lovingly grabbed me by the ruff of the neck and flung me back to my tween years, hunched in front of a CRT monitor, anxiously waiting for pages full of gifs to load.

Sefyra

The only thing that's missing is those dragon hit-counters you'd find on every geocitties or neopets webpage! Well done, thanks for bringing me back!

Everything about this pet makes me a happy person. I certainly did learn to code from neopets using sites that looked like this pet!!! Amazing.
2

Ringo

SO MUCH LOVE!!! I remember all of this. lol!! Geocities, LiveJournal, downloading anime music over dial-up... To this day, I miss LiveJournal just for the photoshop tutorials. They were the best.

Thank you for this awesome pet and congrats!!

20 years and 1000+ mi later, I still hear my mom yelling at me to get off Neopets because she's expecting an important phone call.

(Fun fact for those who may not know: if you can recall a long-since-purged Neopet's name and you gave it a SUPAH KEWL pet page back in the day, then you can recreate that pet and the page will reemerge from the depths of time. If the pet was pounded prior to purging, though, then the code is lost to the ages.)

Hera

love this one so so much

Oh man, brings me back to accessing oekaki boards with netscape and dial-up to draw my silly little neopets

Love this, brings back some fond memories of mucking around in Geocities touching up my two sites (a personal art site & a personal fan art/fanfic/random fanon plot generator site), finding webrings to stick them on, browsing through other people's DIY's, still remember some of the classics (Moyra's web jewels, anyone?).
@Jakkalope - Most excellent work!
@GLaDOS - Give Neocities a try, the code interface panel reminds me a lot of codepen, the file management system pretty straightforward like Geocities was. It does coach you a lot on current web design standards (little clickable error alerts), but you still have the leeway to post those marquees etc if you want to.

kitty

love the sentiment at the end! : )

I love this pet so much. I'm immediately 12 again, coding my first website on my grey & purple Compaq Presario. <3

Pinocchio

Ahh I remember my old "sites" (hosted by what-have-you until they eventually stopped those fun self-made webpages)... Mostly rambles and embedded youtube videos of Disney songs, hahahah.

*cracks knuckles and prepares the marquee tags*
2

peachette

oh gosh i had forgotten about those "DO NOT CLICK" pages with the billion alert boxes. and everyone had an autoplaying midi! and those little blinkie hit counters! and guestbooks! such a cool and honestly touching pet! congrats!!

I grew up right around the transition to "Web 2.0", and I still sorely miss the chance I never really had to express myself on the internet in this way. I've heard of sites like Neocities and similar types of things (successors to Geocities I'm guessing) where this is still an option, but I wonder, will anybody really read it? If they do, will I get hate or drama that is so prevalent in social media nowadays (which I suppose "back then" was sent directly to the revealed emails?) at such a large scale over even the smallest of opinions?

I missed this era by a matter of years and I very much regret it. Thank you for creating and sharing this pet/profile, I might go look into coding and if Neocities is still around (I haven't checked in a year or two), I might try to see if I can get some nostalgia back or if I am years too late.
2

Edgeworth

i am genuinely in love with this pet, thank you so much for blessing us with this gift
love, a loser who learned to code on neopets
3

Plague

Oh... now I feel ancient, thank you xD I love this pet!
0

VINYL

congrats on the win! i love this pet so much... and your words in the credits really resonated with me.

i was thinking the other day how interesting that many of us look fondly over webpages created by the average joe. it really is a niche now, as most webpages are now designed with a modern, sleek, and more legible design. which makes sense! its better for readability and whatnot.
but there's such a charm to the personalization and customization that took over back then. i think that's why i've come back to subeta because of having that ability in pet pages and also i've taken to making personal pages over at neocities.
it makes me happy to see people, both old and young, still try to take up the task of trying to learn CSS and HTML to bring back this kind of aesthetic and feeling. <3
