CW Pawn Shop: Opening SOON
As a reminder, you won't be able to sell any custom wearables while the CW Pawn Shop is open, so if you've got some to offload, you should do it now!

OMG it's almost not morning, I worked my fourth 12 hour overnight shift in a row, got out at 7, and I could have been sleeping this whole time. Just... *dies* Yeah, I know, entitlement, I'm not special and I'm 110% whining, but... ugh.

It doesn't make sense to consider "morning" in any timezone other than subeta time. That's the only reference I have when I open the site, aside from my local time...
And technically it's still morning on subeta, so I'm crossing fingers no one forgot about it 🤞

Idk how announcing a specific time is hard on the servers but everyone refreshing the front page for 10 hours due to the vagueness isn't

Any time they give a set time, they almost never hit that mark and the community (understandably) gets upset.
But it's a double-edged sword, because just stating "morning" and not specifying which time zone (as there are staff across different US timezones) or even a rough estimate, like others have said, leaves a huge area of speculation.
For a once-a-year event, it's really not fair to the community, IMO, to not give a specific time and meet that deadline. This is a job. A second one for all staff, but a job nonetheless.
Maybe that seems harsh, but it's hard to watch this happen every event, year after year, and just watch the community get more and more frustrated every time. This does affect how people view the site. And how many people stay. And if they bring their friends.
Food for thought.

@Narshe It also had something to do with economics. Not only were CW's becoming "useless," but this has proven to be much more profitable for the site. :/ However, I don't care for either of these reasonings. It's been years since the server issues and the feat and famine method is toxic and manipulative. Three days isn't a hell of a lot of notice, either.
@Saturnine If that's true then this is highly irresponsible. There should be at least three admin able to do what she does for situations such as this. Also we should be told morning (EST) or (PST). EST is what subeta runs on, btw.

They'll probably open it specifically when I get up to make a meal, because they always do 😂

In a bit less than two hours it won’t be morning. Last time they forgot to open it. Better not to give any set time and just open it when they can.

IIRC, Amber doesn't live in Subeta time, and she's the only person with the power to do anything still hanging on. Last time, I checked the discord occasionally and she did update when it would open, idk about now.

i'm not mad but it's a bit frustrating to give a general estimate of 'morning', which is already vague and then already be 10am which leaves little room of 'morning' left? Like if you were going to wait until this time, they should have just said, "close to noon". idk lol

My understanding is that having it open all the time puts significant strain on the site and bogs it down, something to do with old coding and such. Ties in with why we can't have the shoutbox open on the side during holidays. Though they haven't re-opened the shoutbox side bar widget when holidays were done for a while now either. I remember it was explained by Keith or Amber somewhere in forums at one point and in the news as well I believe.

Not me refreshing constantly in excitement~
...I'll never understand the amount of whinging and entitlement about the pawn shop that happens every time. Like they could just NOT have a pawn shop for CWs at all, would that be a better option??
As someone who works in customer service, providing exact times just leads to disappointment for everyone involved.

@exquisite Yeah, IDK. I mean, I don't understand how that could devalue stuff any more than just selling it. I mean, if it sits in the pawn shop so long that it doesn't get picked up then... No one wants it, and if no one wants it, frankly it's only worth what someone is willing to pay - that's how it works in the real world anyway. (just saying that in general, not arguing with you). But anyway, as someone who released/drew a decent amount of items in the past, yeah that sucks I get it, but it's reality. And as someone who wants to collect CWs, there's not always a lot available to browse and if I see something I really want, I'm willing to spend real money to get it. I feel like it's counter productive to have it shut down most of the time when it could be a consistent source of income for the site. I would rather see the prices increased a bit than have it closed all the time.

@Lin
Based on what I found via search when I came back from hiatus and tried to figure out where it went, it seems the CW pawn shop closed in 2017 because of supply/demand mechanics--the CWs in the pawn shop were devaluing CW creators' items for releases/re-sale/privates. While I understand the plight of the CW creators/releasers (since they are spending real money to release the items), it's unfortunate that a middle ground could not be reached.

It would be helpful to have a time frame at least. Like say it's going to open between 9-10am instead of just the morning. I look forward to the pawn shop every time, but I don't want to have to try to plan my whole day around it.

Narshe
Though I will say it's vague to say 'morning' when now there is 2 hours remaining until noon so this wasn't much allusion if this was the plan. Lol

I don't know why we can't just have it open all the time like it used to be. I can't imagine any reason for it not being an option that isn't completely asinine.

Narshe
Wasn't the reason we don't get exact times on Pawn Shop openings because it crashed the server when so many people were on at the same time?

Jasper
Okay, I am very tired of you guys being vague about the pawn shop openings. There's no reason why you can't give us an exact time and place. Vaguely saying the morning is not good enough because that could mean anything from 12:00 a.m. to 11:59 a.m.; and given the track record lately with releases, I'm beginning to wonder if it's the latter. I'm also going without sleep so I don't miss this because if you're not there as soon as it opens, you have a very high chance of losing out on key items that you'll never see again. I really wish you would stop with this feast or feminine type of releasing and just allow us to buy and sell as we please, throughout the year, like we used to.

So, um, what do you do if the CW Pawn Shop refuses to buy your CW? (It keeps telling me it can't find a price)

I didn't expect this during this time of the year but I'm not complaining. Will try to save some more CSC if I can.

ChatLunatique
@Sheap it's a tab that will be available in the pawn shop( https://subeta.net/explore/pawn.php/shop ) on those days to buy discounted and often otherwise unbuyable custom wearables with CSC.

Why!? I'm still trying to rebuild my CSC, but I can't find a lot of Morty Cards due to Quest. Oh well looks like I'll be broke again. :P
