Downtime Update!

Last night the site went down for our quickly-scheduled maintenance, and unfortunately I wasn't able to complete the migration in time (even with a few extra hours of downtime!).
What happened: The database got stuck migrating the item_instances table — that's where we store all of your wardrobe items. Turns out you've all collected a lot of items over the years. You should be proud! But it also means this table takes a very long time to run migrations over.
What this means: We'll be living with the current lag and some strange bugs (like random hair) for a few more days while I investigate whether we can migrate this table slowly in the background without stressing the site. I'll have an update soon.
Cron was down: While the site was down, our "cron" system (the magical timer ⏲️) got turned off, which stopped zombie progression and other site progression. It wasn't able to restore itself until around 10AM Subeta time. Unfortunately, I can't step back in time and re-run everything that should have happened, so progression starts fresh from there. That means some folks' Zombie strains will need a little extra time, we gave Survival some extra runway because we knew there might be complications like this. I'll keep an eye on it, and we can extend it if needed, or reduce timers.
The bigger picture: I know this sucks. We're between two sites right now and features aren't working 100%, and some people are seeing weird hair on their avatars they didn't put there. I know everyone wants everything to just work. We're a very small team now, doing our best to get us there.

What's going on? The infection I had ended, I got the skin and the message notification, removed it in the wardrobe, but I can't get another infection. Every time I try it says he can't help me because my virus is still developing! How do I get a new infection?

i feel like it wouldn't be a subeta event without something like this happening lol. thanks for the updates, and for working so hard to keep this site trucking along!
i don't want to give a big speech but i do think it's important to keep in mind that subeta is only alive because keith cares about the site, and what it means to people, so much. most people would have let subeta die out by now.
this news post already says that extensions may happen/timers may be adjusted if needed due to things being rough, so i'm not too concerned. i just hope that things go well with trying to fix the issues; with how annoying it is just for us, i can't imagine the frustration of having to fix everything.

I think the problem with waiting for the site move to be fully finished before having any more events is that Keith has limited time to be able to work on all of this, and he's pretty much working by himself. So if we waited until it was all done, that could be potentially several years of no events or new content, people would eventually get bored and leave, and then there might be no more Subeta in the end. I know this all kind of sucks, I've been frustrated my fair share as well, but Idk I feel like something is better than nothing. And with how patched together the legacy site really seems to be, I'm impressed that we are even able to get these slightly broken version of events in the first place.
So thank you for at least trying your best staff. It's annoying for everyone, but I appreciate the efforts at least. <3

I think people are being pretty harsh given the resources y'all have to work with - honestly after the first day of lag (that always happens bc a buncha users are on the site, no matter the state of it) the kumos site is working really, really well. I do with some stuff was a little less clunky like clearing events on the sidebar, but thanks for keeping us updated and for the new features that make it way, way less of a hassle to get event currency.

I can see both sides of it... it sounds like just putting a hold on events until the site move is finished would be a good idea considering how much strain events cause. Lighten the load a little. But then there'd be very little to do on the site, so not good for keeping people coming back. I know for me personally, since I mostly just collect items and work on profiles, my activity on the site would likely go down if we stopped events altogether.
Mostly I just wish Kumos was more like the legacy site but with up-to-date coding etc (I don't know the exact terminology but hopefully you get what I mean here), instead of being SO different. It feels like most of the stuff that's moved over to Kumos is changed very drastically in the process and I think that's a big reason why so many of us don't feel very friendly towards Kumos :s
Anyway... thanks for the updates and for keeping us in the loop, I know this post might sound a bit whingy but please understand it's coming from a place of love for the site :)

@Tucker Keith is working on it. There seems to be an issue with final progression. I reported it about an hour ago.
@Nogami Feedback doesn't always sound kind, but it's necessary to effect change. I think I've done my part over the past four years to monetarily support Subeta's staff. Hopefully the negative feedback can help steer Kumos in a positive direction.

uh, what just happened to my virus? i had pleasure earlier and got infected right after the event started. I have nothing now and the vip is telling me i can be infected. i should be on the latest stage, 6th.

not to be that guy but if you want this to go faster, be more seamless... pay for csc. get a gold account. the biggest reason they can't just do this as efficiently is possible is that it's a smaller team of folks that are (hopefully) getting paid to do the best they can. this is not a huge corporate entity.
i've seen real actual businesses do worse than this. like losing tens of thousands a dollar a day kind of worse, just so they could save a few bucks. that's not what's happening here. be kind.

DarkPrince for most everything in that comment, except maybe some of the wording. We run into this every single time anymore there's a user heavy event. It's a little tiresome at this point and I try to be patient, I really do.

This will be unpopular but I don't care. There should be no events until the change is finished. Just get the migration over and done with before having events that never work properly. Personally I can't stand the new site. But yes if I don't like it I don't have to be here, and it's definately looking that way. I come on here to get away from st things in life so it's no fun when this is st too. I don't see the point in being all nicey nicey.

I don't believe it's possible to have a seamless, fast browsing experience on Kumos. I wish I was joking. It has never, in over a year, been a smooth, seamless experience. I hope I'm proved wrong, but I just don't think Kumos' building blocks allow for it. It's too...heavy in each page, too bogged down. I'm afraid it would take a complete re-work to experience the fast, seamless experience we've come to know, and expect, both on Legacy and the world wide web. While I appreciate the effort, I will never be able to enjoy a slow, clunky experience.

A little lag would be o.k., but there are constant cloudflare errors 504 on both sites now.
I took this week off, to be able to finally get my Throwback Fights in and can't even finish my dailies, let alone battle!
And it doesn't astonish me, that Kumos is so slow, when it constantly refreshes each page and each tab - I want to click back fast, but no, I have to wait, till the back tab loads afresh - that's also hard on our bandwidth! Apart from the fact, that I can never check back, what was on the last page (items, prices, sP,...) because it doesn't exist anymore. THAT is annoying!

Has anyone had any progression at all since before the downtime? I know @Keith said the timer reset but I am still at the stage I was at last night before the downtime. It has been over 8 hours since it ended, right?

Sure wish it could have waited 1 hour because I was only 1/2 way through with quests. Odd that they chose the start of a complicated timed event to do this migration. I cannot use the kumos site until they return my book marks on the right side since I use those constantly. And I gave up on quests on kumos as they are not worthwhile. Lost SPs doing Wiz quests and didn't get a single token. Hope things get worked out soon.

I appreciate the time and effort being put into making subeta great again. I want to mention a problem I'm having-
I cannot access any forum posts. So, I'm not able to report the bug!
I've not been able to track the zombie procession this year so it's put me off choosing a strain.
I hope I'll be able to access the forums soon, as I'm also unable to vote on strain names ;0;

The main things that put me off using Kumos all the time is 1: the lag (especially since there seems to be some kind of auto-reload feature that doesn't actually refresh anything so I have to reload manually again to see new things and the lag makes it a pain) and 2: it's hard to navigate on mobile. But I imagine those will be dealt with eventually. I'm sure it will be better when more and more features have been migrated over.
(Also could do without the directory search filters resetting in legacy frame mode, I hope when that gets brought over it doesn't do that)

I want to say THANK YOU to Keith and all the people who work so hard on Subeta. I have been a longtime member here and I have been thru the good and the bad. I have been thru the site going down many times and I have and will always appreciate all the hard work that is being done behind the scenes. HOWEVER.... I have been trying to be slient and bite my tongue but I can no longer. I need to say this. Im very very sad to see this new Kumos site. I dont like it! There r so many things that I cannot even name them all. I remember the last big site change and although I wasnt a fan of it, I learned to love it and that is the Legacy site that you all play on today. THAT the Legacy site is the site that you all should be working on to make better. Not changing it to this Kumos site. Im sorry but I feel the changes that have been implemented so far and a major down grade instead of an upgrade to a great site. I dont go on Kumos. Sadly more and more the Legacy pages are re-directing to the Kumos site but I dont go on there for quests or anything else by choice. I think its terrible. I really wish u @Keith could step back and remember what the site was like before. I know we need some changes and I know there is a lot behind the scenes that I dont understand that needs changes. But Kumos isnt the right way to go..... Thats my thoughts... Do with them what u will..... Thanks again for trying to keep the memory of Subeta alive for us old timers. I really hope it doesnt change to much....
