After much discussion amongst themselves, the dragons have announced that they would henceforth prefer to be referred to as rreigns to better distinguish themselves from the plethora of other dragon species on Subeta. One of Subeta's most famous rreign, Curie, has informed us that the name is pronounced much like our word rain with a guttural growl-like sound at the beginning.
Despite the suggestive nature of the word ''prefer,'' they would also like to include that anyone choosing not to respect their wishes does so at their own risk of being summarily fried and devoured by a more sensitive member of their species! :o

It may not affect site play, but it's kind of an eyesore to see and seems sort of hypocritical coming from a site that puts a filter on chat speak. : /

I don't really like the double are but the name change is alright. If Rreign bothered you, why not use Rrreign? ...then again I have a bit of an obsession with using three rrr's in things...

Double blocking affected your forum experience, prevented you from seeing content, and allowed other users to govern where or if you could post on the site.
A name/capitalization change has nowhere near the same relevance as a change that modifies or inhibits your ability to enjoy part of the site. You might not like the name rreign or that it is in lowercase, but it doesn't stop you from doing anything on the site the same way someone blocking you did. :

Even though the lowercase is technically proper English, you can't deny the fact that it looks horrible. The new name is an improvement though. I remember many people being very against double blocking, and the idea was scrapped. Well, to me, and to many other users, it seems, this issue is even more important than that one. I mean, I think the staff should reconsider due to all the negative feedback.
No, I'm not afraid of change. There have been so many great changes made to the site, especially the pet revamps. But, I'm sure we all agree that change isn't always good. Anyways, I just want to state my opinion.

I actually agree with those who have said they didn't like the change in capitalization. Making the first letter capitalized gives an air of importance to the creatures. I suppose I could expect a group of meek creatures to go with making their names lower case, but to make Rreigns the first group to do so just doesn't seem right.
I also disagree with the double r's at the beginning. It looks doubly silly when lower cased, but it still doesn't fit either way. If you want to base a name off something, then actually base the name off that thing. Sometimes mixing it up too much just appears silly.
Those points aside, I actually like the sound of the name! It seems appropriate for a group of dragons. I might change the spelling a bit, but the idea itself is sound. So good job on that.

And here I thought the poster just made a mistake when writing the name...
Maybe its just me but all the new names lately sound like something a random name generator would spew out. I cant say I'm very impressed with the staff if after 'much disscussion' this is the best they could come up with. Anyway I agree with Toxin. lol

I'm sorry, but I don't gorwl too often, weather it be guttural or otherwise. Do you mean a growl like when you've got a loogie stuck in your throat and you're trying to clear it, or a "rabid dog" growl?

Well, calling it rreign is in my humble opinion as creative as calling it ddragon instead of Dragon- remove the first letter and you have a real word in both cases!
But I won't own one of these, so I'll leave the complaining to the rreign-owners now!

If Subeta made polls for all changes, the site would quickly belong stagnant.

Not really. Based on the massive negative feedback this has started, I'd say a poll would have been an excellent idea.
Names have been capitalized since Subeta started. Suddenly and without warning putting them in lowercase is definitely going to make people angry, especially when the reasoning behind it is shoddy at best.

I could care less about the whole capitalization issue, but rreign? Seriously? Could have at least come up with a name that had a little more "umph". Sounds like a last-minute-couldn't-think-of-anything-better kind of name to me. Blegh. >.<

lol at Wikipedia being used as evidence. There's a reason why we teachers don't let our students use it as a source
That said, the capitalization doesn't bug me. The double consonant does because it looks pretentious (and reading the reasoning behind it makes it SOUND pretentious too), but I don't own this pet and never will, so I doubt I'll have to see the name much. I do think it's a good idea to change the name from the very generic "dragon" though

I never really liked the names Dragarth or Turdle. The new name changes are creative (just like the artists' renditions) and unique. Congrats to whomever thought of the name.
That's catchy. :3 Admittedly I was a little thrown off by the lowercase at first, but "Rreign" would look rather silly anyway.

Actually, the double-R was necessary given the limitations of the English language. As inversitle mentioned, rr is a letter in the Spanish language, but it is seldom, if ever used at the beginning of a word. This is because all words beginning with a single-R in Spanish are automatically rolled or trilled. The double-R within Spanish words is to indicate that same sound is to be made, as opposed to a normal-R sound.
English doesn't have that rule. If we wanted that guttural sound, we needed to have an indicator, i.e., Rr. We understand that not everyone can make the noise required to properly pronounce the name. Some people have a hard enough time with Spanish trills! In which case, the pronunciation reign is perfectly acceptable. It's not like we're going to hear you saying it wrong.
Honestly, it's a bit disheartening that we could never make changes to facilitate a plot or even a small story without users assuming that we should have polled the change first or made an announcement somewhere. Honestly, a poll to change the case of a common noun and an adjective?? Don't you think that's a bit too far?

Wow, I don't like the not capitalized species name either, even though names are proper nouns and should be capitalized, but. I'm not making a huge deal out of it. O_o; Maybe we should do a poll like we did on the double-blocking thing?
But even then, if the site doesn't capitalize it, doesn't mean I have to totally rethink how I type out species names... It's really not that big of a deal.
(I really do like the Rreign instead of Dragon, though. )

=/ I'm rather glad I stopped liking the Dragon after the revamp, because that name would drive me nuts trying to pronounce it. It's like trying to say railroad in french... I never could, and have always hated that double r. I can't do the gutteral sound needed for it, so I just wind up looking at it and saying "Rain". Which is more horribly plain than Dragon ever was.
I dont understand why it cant be Reigns. It's like the double R is there to try and be cool, but double Rs dont really work unless it's 'Worry' or 'Sorry' or something like that. There's pretty much no logic, to me, behind the double R. More than likely I'll just call it Reigns. shrugs Another awkward chapter in the dragon's history.

Why not a poll? This affects a great deal more people than double-blocking did.
Perhaps if you have to justify a change to angry users over and over, then it isn't a good one.
The thing that upsets me the most is the "I just can't understand why you're upset!" vibe that I'm getting from Staff. Really?

just as sidenote after reading a lot... i'd rather have the name in caps too... the "looks like somebody had a sudden spasm while they were typing"- argument just discribes my feeling when seeing it all in lowercaps. lol xDQuote:
It's certainly not proper grammar to capitalize the species name when discussing your cocker spaniel dog or calico cat.
well... in my laguage (and many others too) it IS propper grammer... though it would sound like: Cocker Spaniel and Calico, we don't realy add the dog/cat things there. so i can't see anything wrong in caps here. ;P
Also can I ask but is this 'Red Rreignling' people seem to be mentioning?

However, in all areas where that title exception does not come into play, i.e., item descriptions, news posts, official lore, plots, etc., the colors and species will be lowercase.

huff123: YES, thank you. I don't see how the "Red Rreignling" has any connection to the Dragon/rreign/whatever; it doesn't even look like one. How was it changed while the Ice Dragon, Ground Dragon, etc. got to remain the same?
The rest of my opinion... has been said, so I won't repeat.
The rest of my opinion... has been said, so I won't repeat.

To me it looks ridiculous because of the double consonant plus the lack of capitalization. If it had been Rreign or reign then at least it would look intentional. As it is, it looks like somebody had a sudden muscle spasm while they were typing. I desperately want to "spell check" the news post whenever I stare at it.

i just wonder why they had to change the -red dragon- into -Red Rreignling- ... since this thing CLEARLY doesn't look like an Rr..whatever-i-can't-remember-that but simply a like a: -dragon- lol. IF anything else, it's rather a Paralix in first place...
i hope they don't change anything "dragon" called into that rr-ting... that wouldn't be fitting in most minion cases at all.
-bandwagon-
Just my little opinion on the matter, capitalizing does 'look' better, but when it comes down to it, who is it harming, seriously though it is only a letter on a petsite.
