After much discussion amongst themselves, the dragons have announced that they would henceforth prefer to be referred to as rreigns to better distinguish themselves from the plethora of other dragon species on Subeta. One of Subeta's most famous rreign, Curie, has informed us that the name is pronounced much like our word rain with a guttural growl-like sound at the beginning.
Despite the suggestive nature of the word ''prefer,'' they would also like to include that anyone choosing not to respect their wishes does so at their own risk of being summarily fried and devoured by a more sensitive member of their species! :o

To branch off here slightly.
If you are going to be lower-casing all the specie names now since they aren't proper nouns, won't that mean you'll have to go through and do the same for all the minions? The Ounce or Velvet isn't the actual name of the minion, but rather the species it is. So following your logic, those would all have to be uncapitalized. I don't see that going over well at all if that change actually occurs.

I like that it has a new name, I don't like the double r's. It looks like a typo to me. Like the person typing the name in was too busy to proofread. xD Unless you cap one, like Rreign. Then it just looks odd to me.

The point is that if you were going for a Welsh-sounding name and were particularly attached to a double consonant, why didn't you use something that was actually Welsh and/or reasonably cool-sounding? "Reign" plus an extra "r" is tacky, at best.

Are the uppercase letters going to remain on our pets' pages? Because that capitalization is absolutely correct, I'm positive, and if the color and species names turn lowercase, I'll be a sad, sad person.

I get that the dragon was way overdue for a name change. Fair enough. And I guess this isn't a bad choice. But Welsh-inspired? I'm trying to learn Welsh at the moment and I've spent a lot of time in Wales... 'rreign' just doesn't work. I like the 'rhaen' suggestion made earlier.

Just throwing in my two cents.... I just dont really like the name and I do have a dragon as a pet. It would be nice if these sort of things were polled at least by the people who already have them as pets. But I guess really it does not matter all that much. Oh well.

Good to see a name change. Dragon is too general a name, although easy to remember. For the new name I give points for creativity, but did it have to be so difficult to pronounce?

The difference is, you are anthropomorphizing this animal. To paraphrase, "the dragons got together and discussed changing their name". Now, I think we all know a group of animals the way we define them isn't going to get together and have a discussion over what they would like their species to be called. They may be animal in nature, yes, but when you start to give them a language, and a voice, and a culture, and a whole meaning behind their name like this - it's not just an animal anymore, and in that respect, the lowercase is kind of dumb.
I understand it's another thing that won't change, but I still think it's kind of silly and out of place, and just looks... dumb when it's posted like this.

Actually, Sapphira brings up a good point (kind of indirectly, though ^^; ) - my linguistics background tells me that English is the only language in the world that pronounces the are sound the way it does. So if the double consonant of this name was supposed to be Welsh-inspired, methinks maybe the wrong consonant was picked - either that or "rain with a growl" is the wrong pronunciation key.

As LostDragoon has mentioned, while our subeta pets are a large and relevant part to the site, they are just that: pets. It's certainly not proper grammar to capitalize the species name when discussing your cocker spaniel dog or calico cat.
While the comparison to cultures makes sense, our pets are not a culture. The species of Subeta exist to be adopted by us. While I imagine some run wild in packs, communicate amongst themselves, and have their own unique habits, they are still animals.
