information
I watch the heavens but I find no calling
Something I can do to change what's comin'
Stay close to me while the sky is falling
I don't wanna be left alone, don't wanna be alone
The world is on fire, it's more than I can handle
I'll tap into the water, try to bring my share
I'll try to bring more, more than I can handle
Bring it to the table, bring what I am able
Character Summary: Yu-Gi-Oh! OC that has existed since 2005. Timeline does not exactly match canon, stretching events out over several years. Born into a noble family in ancient Egypt far from the capitol city, T'Kai was a spirited but sensitive child. She was a clever girl who learned how to derail her tutors when she found their lessons boring by distracting them with off topic or frustrating questions ("why is this true?" was a favorite). It was a fun pastime, but one that got her into trouble with her parents when they found out about it. A good education was a privilege, especially so far from the capitol, and she should not waste it. They never let her forget that she was more fortunate than some of those around her. It was a fact that she mustn't rub in peoples' faces. Rather, it meant that she had a duty to take care of those who had less, to the best of her abilities. By the time she left her parents' home as a teenager, sent to serve in the secondary royal residence hundreds of miles away, she knew the lesson well.
For the first few months at the royal residence she remained quiet and shy. She had never been so far from home before, and was terribly homesick. Eventually, she met and befriended an older girl by the name of Sanura, who took her under her wing and helped her find her footing again. The two were soon attached at the hip - wherever one was, the other was not far behind. If this was how the rest of her life played out, T'Kai would not have minded it. But life had other things in store for them. Just before her seventeenth birthday T'Kai found herself betrothed to the then Prince Atem. It was not the worst thing that could have happened but... well, that was quite a jump in responsibility levels, wasn't it? She hardly even knew him. It was a purely political union; not unusual, but she still found it difficult to wrap her head around. Intimidated by the thought of everything she asked Sanura to move with her to the main royal residence and was more relieved than she had ever been in her life up to that point when Sanura agreed.
Life as one of the Royal Wives (a title she shared with Teana, a childhood friend of Atem's) was... interesting. The palace was every bit as opulent as could be expected, with no shortage of servants and guards to tend to almost any want or need. Teana and Sanura were great company, and Atem was - well, a little awkward but not cruel. T'Kai slowly adjusted and settled into her new roles, gaining more confidence as she tested her own limits and boundaries. Within just a couple of years she could genuinely claim that she was happy. She welcomed a son (the crown prince Rami) and later a daughter (Tiya), and raised them alongside the other children of the court with their mothers. But she never forgot the lesson her parents had drilled into her: it was her duty to serve those less fortunate than herself. As such she did what she could to better the lives of the citizens, be it by gently pleading needed reforms with her husband or overseeing distribution of supplies during hard times. Unfortunately, her dedication to the people of Egypt was not enough to stay the hands of political rivals who aimed to remove Atem from the throne. She was murdered before the age of twenty five, along with her eldest, Rami. The loss of mother and son were devastating blows to a court caught off guard, and it would only be the beginning of a turbulent, violent period of history that almost saw the entire world plunged into darkness.
Not even death was a total reprieve. A millennia after their burials, the tomb containing herself, her son and Sanura was ransacked. Their names were erased and their mummies were destroyed, tearing them out of the afterlife. While the spirit of her best friend took to roaming the world without a name or memories, T'Kai's spirit remained within the tomb itself. Enraged by the desecration and disrespect to their resting place the soul that was once the patient, motherly T'Kai became vengeful and violent, attacking any and all that entered the ruins. Further tainted by association to the Millennium Items in life she very nearly became a shadow spirit in her own right. Elsewhere, a tiny sliver of her soul would reincarnate in the far future in the form of a young girl begrudgingly adopted into the Ishtar clan, a family of tomb keepers tasked with the duty of guarding the secrets of a certain Pharaoh so that he might one day return...
