Helianthus is the creator of the dawn, the master of daylight. The beauty of daybreak and sundown are his doing -- every shimmering beam of sunlight, every streak of dying light scattered by the evening sun, every rose-tinted sunrise or crimson sunset. Helianthus's scope may be limited, but the art he creates is nonetheless incredible. Together with his soulmate and counterpart, Ipomoea, and his fellow artist of the skies, Amabelle, their endless landscape is wrought to beautiful perfection -- be it day or night, storms or sunshine.

Helianthus walked quickly down the unassuming wooded path that led out of Theede, shoving his forearm to his face to blot at the tears with his sleeve. He kept his pace brisk to keep himself from losing his nerve and turning back. He would not, could not go back -- Telamaine had seen to that. With every unkind word, sharp reprimand, and annoyed glance, he had made certain that there was no way Heli could go back to that.

It's not my fault I don't know what I'm doing. Heli sniffed. It's not my fault I didn't have enough training before I came here. If I'd been better at magic, if I'd been able to train with Virgil like the others...

As Heli approached the curve in the path that led to the transition between the two worlds, his pace slowed involuntarily and his thoughts began to drift to what he was leaving behind. One of his only friends in Theede, Ipomoea, the man he loved more than anything, with the kindest words and the gentlest hands he'd ever known... Ipomoea, the Sage of the Night Sky, Heli's counterpart and almost literally his other half. What would Ipomoea do without him? Heli's footsteps faltered for a brief moment as a quiet voice in his head tried to weaken his resolve. He could run back into Ipomoea's arms, he could pretend everything was alright. He could go back to crying into Ipomoea's chest every night after a hard day of trying so hard to please Telamaine... and always failing. Telamaine would never be pleased. The scowl he often wore would never become a smile or a word of praise. As his thoughts drifted back in that direction, Heli frowned slightly and shook his head. He had to go. There was no other way. Besides, he would come back for Ipomoea later, after things had settled down...

He approached the boundary between the world of the gods and the world of the living tentatively; he could see the gatekeeper keeping watch. However, Heimdall was used to seeing the immortal residents of Theede pass through; he simply smiled as Heli approached, then turned his head and gestured toward the gap in the path. The empty space began to shimmer, and the gate was opened for Helianthus to pass through to Pridd.
