The Eldest
-----Do you need to remember your mortality to deal with mortals?Telamaine, eldest of the gods, highest authority in Theede, has been detached from mortality for over a thousand years. He feels as though it helps him to make emotion-free and unbiased decisions -- but are these qualities worth the loss of his humanity?Andi, the youngest of the four cardinal gods, has been in Theede for only a few hundred years. He still remembers all of his mortal life -- in fact, he clings doggedly to his old opinions, emotions, and memories of his mortality. Andi is dedicated to Telamaine, despite Telamaine's stand-offish attitude and ill-formed interpersonal skills -- and though he does not care to admit it often, Telamaine is dedicated to Andi as well. He pushes Telamaine to recall the details of his long-lost mortal life, and to try to remember what it was like to be alive.-----Hundreds and hundreds of years ago, Telamaine was a very talented young mage serving in the Priddish army under the king. The natural element for his magic was fire, and he was constantly practicing to better his skills. He read every text available to him to make sure that he was the best that he could be -- and he was very good.Telamaine had met and married the woman of his dreams, a beautiful young woman named Alera. They had a home together in the rustic city of Argylle, located in the northern province by the same name which was primarily known for its farmland. She was a bright and cheerful woman, and despite his prolonged absences while on duty, she was always there for him to come home to afterward, always ready to offer him love and comfort. After much consideration and several years of marriage, Telamaine and Alera decided they were finally ready to start a family together, and the lovers rejoiced when Alera became pregnant with their first child. One fateful day, Telamaine and Alera were both at home. Alera was inside the house tending to the cleaning, while Telamaine was researching newer ways of tapping power for his magic use, practicing its application in his workroom in their small home. He had discovered a new source of internal power that required much concentration and finesse to acquire. It was beyond his level and he was ill-equipped to handle the power, but Telamaine believed (perhaps foolishly) that he could control it. As Telamaine attempted an unsteady technique to reach deep within to access this well of magical strength, it came surging forth suddenly and unexpectedly -- and at a magnitude which he had been unprepared for. As the magic poured out, it enveloped Telamaine's body in fiery waves of his own strength. He had set a spell to shield himself, but his belongings around him -- flammable books, papers, and furniture -- were unprotected. They immediately caught fire, and as Telamaine struggled to cap his magical energies, more and more flames licked the walls and spread to the rest of the house. In a final burst of power, the man's flames swelled and erupted, flattening everything around him into smoldering, burning rubble... including his wife and unborn child.-----Telamaine awoke a few days later, in the custody of Arlen, one of the resident gods, who had been drawn to his massive outburst of magical strength. Telamaine entered Theede as Arlen's first-in-command, though he was drained and dejected and hardly believed he deserved the honor. He blamed his arrogance and inability to control himself for the death of his family, and bore this burden for hundreds of years. He did his best to bury his emotions and push all memories and thoughts of his previous mortal life from his head, attempting to rid himself of his guilt. Now, at over a thousand years old, Telamaine is the eldest of the gods, and as such, he is the highest authority in Theede. His experience and tenure, along with his capable skills, have earned him the respect of others in Theede, though his overall cold personality and rough manner have earned him few friends. That was, until Andromeda came to Theede. After Andi arrived in the realm of the gods, he immediately latched onto Telamaine (much to Telamaine's dismay), who could not be rid of him no matter how hard he tried. (Of course, that is a story for another time entirely.)-----Telamaine is often depicted as a phoenix-like bird by the mortal residents of Pridd. He is often represented by the sun, and he rules the cardinal direction of north. He keeps cages of small songbirds in his residences, which are often terrorized (together with Telamaine himself) by Andi's collection of cats.Treasures
Regional Deities
According to legend, every country has its own pantheon of gods and goddesses. These deities, along with their courts of followers, all represent various aspects of daily life in their countries. They may not fully control their aspects -- mankind still has his own say in his thoughts and actions -- but they do serve as the representatives of their element or concept. Dreams, nightmares, fire, water, day, night, and more all have their avatars in Theede (the alternate plane in which the gods of the country of Pridd reside).
Territories and Temples
In Pridd's case, the "territories" of each god (regions of the country that consider a god or goddess to be their main deity) are divided up by the cardinal directions. Telamaine, being the eldest god in Theede, has the largest territory -- his domain covers most of the northern half of Pridd, as well as the capital city of Cydry in the center. Psione's territory is the eastern half of the country, while Aello's covers the western half. Andi's region is the southern portion of the country.Within each territory, there are temples dedicated to that region's primary god in most major cities. Each god's district has a primary temple as well, however, and these are where most of the communications from the gods to the mortals take place. Each god's main temple has a head priest who is in charge of the day-to-day operations of the temple, and each god has a "speaker" -- an immortal member of their court in Theede whose sole purpose is to come to their main temple and communicate with the head priest on behalf of the god. The gods themselves rarely, if ever, make actual appearances in the temples, except in very extreme circumstances.-----At any given time, on any given day, devoted followers of the gods can be found in the temples; some leaving tokens of their appreciation, others leaving notes and prayers to their god of choice. Most of the time, the temple-goers themselves hold themselves responsible for the upkeep of the temple, and you will often see average citizens sweeping the floors and dusting the statues -- after all, it would reflect poorly upon everyone for these revered locations to be littered with garbage and to appear untended!-----AWESOME TELAMAINE by Seven!Shoddy Pixel Art by meOverlay by meHuman art by myselflayout by Jessi, coding by Damien
