Crime Scene

The sun was setting, painting the sky a vivid array of reds and oranges, as Officer Kaden Dell and Detective Denny made their way through the dimly lit alleyways of Red Ridge. The air thick with the smell of rotting garbage and stale urine, the sounds of distant sirens and arguing homeless echoing off the brick walls. They were searching for any clue, any sign of the mysterious killer that had been terrorizing the city's homeless population for the past month. Each night, a new victim would turn up, their bodies brutally mutilated and drained of blood. The city's police force was at a loss, and the public's trust in law enforcement was quickly dwindling.

Kaden paused outside a makeshift shelter constructed from discarded cardboard boxes and torn blankets. "There's something off about this one, Denny," he muttered, his eyes scanning the area. "I can't quite put my finger on it."

Denny glanced at his partner, his face etched with concern. "Maybe it's just a gut feeling," he offered. "We've been on edge since we got the first call."

The two officers stepped closer to the makeshift shelter, their hearts pounding in their chests. As they peered inside, they were greeted by the sight of a young woman, no more than twenty years old, her body twisted in a pool of her own blood. Her once-beautiful features were now marred by the brutal wounds inflicted upon her. Kaden's stomach turned at the sight, but he forced himself to remain professional.

"This is it," he muttered to Denny, pointing at the woman's throat. "Look at her wounds. They're the same as the others." Denny nodded grimly, his face a mask of determination and anger.

They approached the body carefully, not wanting to disturb any potential evidence. Kaden crouched down beside the victim, his heart heavy with sadness and frustration. "I'm sorry," he whispered, gently closing her empty eyes. "We're going to find who did this to you."

Denny knelt beside him, his gaze scanning the area. "There's something here," he muttered, gesturing to a set of footprints leading away from the makeshift shelter. "Let's follow them."

They were led to no where. Trail went cold at the train tracks on the other side of the street.

"Must have hopped on the train while it was slowing down." Denny groaned.

"Lot's of trains and lots of rain is not going to help the dogs." Kaden agreed. "Get the CIS team in. See what they can find."

Denny nodded as he and his partner headed back to the deceased. Radioing for the sweepers.

KADEN

Partners are not always what it seems like on T.V. We are not that close, and Kaden NEVER shares his life with anyone at the station. A few know him, but no one really knows him well. We sit at our desks, write up our reports. File and chat, but its all surface chat. I know he has twin nephews and he is really close with his brother. Times I think it really isn't his brother and nephews, but what am I going to say? He lives with his brother and the kids in a house and does the cleaning and cooking on his off days, picks up the boys mid-shift at times. Does not date, at all. Yeah, you get the idea and my drift. I am sure you do. I just wish Kaden would come out and say so rather than all this beat around the bush stuff.

You ever seen those joggers? The runners? The ones who are so fit and can run for miles? That is Kaden. Add the muscle from our bi-weekly weight lifting and you have an idea of his shoulders and arms. He isn't that strong I think he benched 85lbs last week. Not bad for someone pushing the 5'10 mark. Not sure exactly what is going on with him. He's started dropping this name I've never heard before and flowers are randomly showing up. Yet he's still doing the kid things and living with his brother. Strange dynamics. It makes my head hurt.

I wouldn't want anyone else at my side on the streets. Aside the personal life stuff, we sync great and get along well on the job. That seems to be important to Kaden, and it works great for me!

RENEE

Ever had a loud mouth co-worker who was bigger than life and made sure everyone around had a smile on their face eventually? That is Renee. She's a hard ass when she needs to be, and she needs to be a lot of times. But she has your back regardless.

Much as she is the mother of the department, we all look out for her too. You just know she is hurting behind that boisterous laugh and harsh shoulder punches. At times we all are hiding behind a mask. It takes the right group to understand that. And to keep that positivity going, even when we are at our lowest. Kaden brought in a cake for her birthday last week. We all look out for each other. Just to try and make that hurt a little less.

HESS

The first serial killer that comes to mind is Jack the Ripper. Lore tends to do that. Regardless of facts and faces. But still, when one starts to get noticed things roll around in the media and become lore. The department is still trying to figure this one out.

The MO. is always the same. The precision has became eloquent over the years and only one victim has had family come forward to inquire about answers. All the others, ALL of the others have been those society has discarded and abandoned. Every last victim has had an organ removed. Properly. It's obvious the trade of the perpetrators and the doctor preforming such tasks. Yet we are all left with no evidence and a stack of dead bodies. Those who have received the new organs have also been in the wind, at least in this city.
