Kratos Aurion is an angel of Cruxis who is over 4000 years old. He was one of Mithos's original companions in the ancient Kharlan War (who also traveled with his friend, Yuan, another angel of Cruxis). Kratos formed a pact with Origin, king of the Summon Spirits and forges the Eternal Sword. The sword was then split into two parts, and thus the world was split into two: Sylvarant and Tethe'alla. One prospers while the other decays. Mithos's goal was to resurrect his dead sister, Martel and end discrimination in both worlds by bringing the worlds back together again.

In present times, Kratos was assigned to keep Colette, the Chosen, sage on her Journey of Regeneration, which would return the the mana to the present world of Sylvarant. Throughout their Journey, Kratos realizes that he is indeed traveling with his lost son, Lloyd Irving and reveals that he was in love with a woman named Anna, who was a research subject for the Cruxis crystals which were designed to make the people lifeless beings. Kratos killed Anna out of kindness as she was turning into a monster from the Cruxis Crystal.

In the end, Lloyd must open Origin's seal by fighting Kratos for his eternal sword to unite the two worlds. Kratos is nearly killed but Yuan steps in to save him. This is where Lloyd finally accepts that Kratos is his father and forgives him for his past crimes against them.
