"See you all next week!" Katrynah sang, and turned to help Li'l Kat clean up the auditorium. The Delphi Museum of Art's auditorium was perfect for teaching. The sound echoed both ways so well. She and her fellow Pets Educating Across Communities Everywhere (P.E.A.C.E.) founder and educator had met here months ago, and came up with the idea for voluntary education of less well-to-do pets.

This particular day, however, after all the pets cleared out, it wasn't as quiet as normal. Katrynah's ears twitched. "Someone here?" Li'l Kat turned in the direction of the skittering. Katrynah went to investigate.

"Meep!" A little Lucky Sable squeaked as a cold nose sniffed at the creature. "Oh! Hi, there! I didn't mean to scare you!" The small Sable turned to Katrynah and tilted its head curiously. "Did you come here on your own?"

The Sable's ears drooped. She finally built up some courage and spoke up. "M-my friend got... got a new minion. We'd both been with him when he got here, but in all the confusion, they left without me."

"Oh? Oh... Well, I can stay here and wait with you!" She smiled. "Li'l Kat, you can head out. I'll watch her."

"You sure? I can stick around, too. I don't have any plans for the day."

"Up to you, but I can keep an eye on her if you want to go get some food. Hey! Speaking of, is it safe for her to snack on some of those cookies I made?"

"What is she?"

Katrynah lifts the little creature up for Li'l Kat to see.

"Ah, yeah, chocolate isn't dangerous to Sables."

Katrynah reached into her messenger bag and unwrapped some homemade chocolate chip cookies for the little creature.

"Supper does sound good about now, though. You sure you're okay? I can stick around if need be."

"Nah, I can keep an eye on her. I'll take her on a private tour of the gallery!"

"Alright. See you at home!" Li'l Kat gives a warm grin and walks off, her pack full of the class's tools for the day.

"Take care!"

Hours pass. "Do you remember where you live?"

"N-no. I mean, I usually ride on my friend's head..." She sniffles. "I don't think he is all that worried. He liked his new minion so much more. I-I mean, we never really got along. I loved art, he only came because his keeper felt like we should spend time together. I think that's why his keeper gave him a new minion in the first place..." The Sable's heart sank.

"Aw, don't think like that!" She tried to encourage, her own insecurities coming to the front of her mind. Abandonment wasn't something with which she was unfamiliar. "Hey, if they don't come back by the end of my shift here, what about coming home with me? I can cook you some dinner and we can paint at my house."

"P-paint?" The Sable's ears perked up.

"Of course! Hey, what's your name?"

"M-minion. I never really had a name."

"Aw, that won't do. Hmm... Well, Roy G. Biv isn't really a good name for a girl, and it's so boring. I like the idea, though. Hey! How about similar colors, same idea. Hmm.

Red... hmm, red, red, red... Crimson... Let's see where C goes.

Orange. Tangerine? No, that won't work. Hmm, Cinnabar won't work either. Amber? Maybe. A.

Yellow." Katrynah ponders, the little Sable tilting her head curiously. "Lemon, maybe? I do like lemons, and it's a nice bright color! L."

"Green... Viridian. I do like Viridian, and Kelly is... hmm, let's see."

"Well, blue, my favorite blue is cerulean, but KC doesn't look right, so let's go with Viridian. V. C."

"Indigo? Still kind of like blue. Azure is nice, and it's another vowel."

"Violet, hmm, your tail is more of a periwinkle. Let's go with that."

"C.A.L.V.C.A.P. I'd probably say that as 'caff-cap,' but how does Cally sound as a nickname? Calvcap, or Cally?"

"I love it!" Cally squeaks with a big grin.

"Calvcap it is, then!" Her eyes arch in a warm grin, hoping the naming had distracted the little creature from the potential abandonment. Just because Katrynah's trust was hurt by the feeling didn't mean she'd wish it on anyone else. Sure, Mr. Koodu was a kind guy, but one doesn't just recover from feeling like nobody cares for them. The last two hours of Katrynah's shift passed, and still nobody showed to claim the critter. Cally's face showed her disappointment. "Come on, what's your favorite food?"

"My favorite food? I... I don't know, hmm... usually I just eat standard minion feed."

"Do you eat meat?"

"Yeah."

"Filet mignon it is then! I have a couple to pick up anyway at the shop. I'll make you a great meal and we can paint up some fun stuff for next week's class. Hop on." Katrynah lowered her head. The little critter looked up at her, eyes fighting back tears. "I figure if that's where you're used to riding, no problem for me!"

After a meek hop or two, the two left for home, after a quick stop at the store. Not long after that, Katrynah adopted Calvcap as her assistant art teacher, and they've been inseparable ever since.
