geeettttttt dunked on!!!

Sans fanpet (because im terrible)

---
You feel a chill run up your spine as the gently falling snow melts into your shirt. You clench and relax your hands a few times, the cold making them shake gently. The snow-covered landscape is tinted dark blue from the dim lighting, and you can barely make out the wall of the massive, chilly cave in the distance.

You're also staring at one of the oddest things you've ever seen. Surprisingly, it wasn't even the strangest thing you've seen that day.

"What's the matter, kiddo?" the thing says with a grin. "Skeleton got your tongue?" The human-like skeleton winks at you, his smile widening.

You'd freak out if you weren't already filled with determination. You shake your head at the monster that had introduced himself as "Sans" to you earlier. Despite his inhuman appearance, you felt rather unthreatened by Sans. You figure between his puns and the "whoopee cushion in the hand" prank he pulled on you earlier, he is mostly harmless. Despite that, you couldn't help but feel a sense of eeriness when he stared at you. It was as if he was looking past you and analyzing something deeper than yourself. It would make you shiver, if you weren't shaking slightly from the freezing air around you.

The skeleton stares at you for a few seconds longer before shrugging. "Not the talkative type, huh?" he asks, his grin remaining plastered onto his face.

You remain true to his statement and don't say a word. Instead you look over Sans, moving your gaze from his slippers up to his hoodie. You marvel at his odd getup before reminding yourself that you're definitely not in Kansas anymore. Your encounter with the evil talking flower monster from when you fell down into the hollow mountain confirmed that fact.

Sans watches you look over him quietly before he chuckles at your confused look. "What, never seen a skeleton before? I guess that's tibia expected, we're not exactly common monsters." He winks at you again and you swear you hear a comedic rimshot in the distance. "Don't worry, kid. I'm not interested in fighting you. It'd take too much effort on my part."

You give him a slightly insulted look. The monsters from the ruins that you emerged out of into the wintry area seemed to think you were worth enough effort to confront.

Sans snorts as he roughly stifles his laughter. "Heh, no offense. I'm just a lazybones." He lifts his bony hands out of his pockets to shrug with his arms and you hear the drums in the distance again. You look around wildly for the drummer who's responsible for the well-timed sound effects but only see thick blankets of snow and fluffy pine trees. You turn your head back to stare at Sans, but he seems to not notice your confusion with the drum noises as he stuffs his hands back into his jacket pockets.

You decide to spare your sanity and dismiss it as another weird monster thing.

Sans looks you over, idly closing his right eye. "What're you doing standing around here with me, anyways?" he asks you. "You should be following after my bro. He ran off down the path behind you, you know. There's monsters that aren't skeletons in that direction, too." Something in Sans's open eye flickered blue, and a wicked chill ran up your back. The chill wasn't from the cold. "Aren't you, y'know, curious?"

You feel as if something sinister is starting to linger behind the skeleton's grin. You began to wonder if following his brother would be the better route. The loud, taller skeleton now seems less threatening than his shorter brother. You shiver again. Gathering up your determination, you clench your fists and turn on your heel before marching down the snow-laden path the caped brother had taken a few minutes before you decided it would be a good idea to look Sans over. You regret that idea now.

You feel the bone-chilling stare of the skeleton leave your body as you walk, and Sans's voice, which sounds gentler now, makes you stop at the edge of the evergreen woods in front of you. "Actually, hey... Hate to bother ya, but can you do me a favor?" You look over your shoulder to see him facing the distant cave wall that lay beyond the edge of the plateau you two were standing on. Both his eyes are open now, and his gaze seems softer. "I was thinking... My brother's been kind of down lately..." You notice that his gaze is distant, as if he's staring at something unseen to you. "He's never seen a human before. And seeing you might just make his day. Don't worry," he continues, confirming your suspicions. "He's not dangerous." His grin widens. "Even if he tries to be." He looks over at you, and you stare back for a moment, trying to read his face. His grin gives you no hints at any hidden motives, but his eyes are now staring at you rather than through you.

You tentatively nod a few times in response.

"Thanks a million," the skeleton says, his ever-present grin widening. "I'll be up ahead."

Sans then turns away from you and heads down the path that you two came down after the whoopee cushion incident. His crunching footsteps fade into the darkness with his form, leaving you staring with confusion at where the blackness of the cave swallowed him. You open your mouth, thinking of calling after him to tell him that his brother ran off in the other direction, but then shut your trap again after considering that, one, he was a skeleton and who knows how they think, and two, he was a weird skeleton so you really don't know what his motives for backtracking where.

You release your clenched jaw to sigh, your breath swirling in the frosty air. You're beginning to regret climbing the mountain and tumbling down into the strange underground caverns in the first place. Before your determination can falter, a shiver reminds you that you need to start going after Sans' shouting skeleton brother. You don't want to know what the eerie blue glow in Sans' eye meant to convey if you didn't follow his suggestion.

You turn towards the snow-laden trees and march with as much confidence as you can muster down the path and into the unknown.
