the cyborg supervillain
I know what you are thinking; you wonder why someone would use their powers for evil, rather than become a worshipped superhero.Oh trust me, I do what I do for a reason, I'm not one of these chaotic amateurs who just want to see the world burn because it's exciting to go and cause destruction.
I guarantee that there is a method to my madness.
Really, there was a period in my life where I was like all of these bright-eyed idealistic kids, hoping that I would have the opportunity to go and make myself a name in this world as a hero. That I would grow to get a fantastic do-gooder legacy, that the children would look up to me as a guidance.
To achieve these goals, I did not skimp on the work: I studied diligently and trained extremely hard. It ended up paying off, as I was selected in one of the most selective training programs.
No more than twelve applicants a year could graduate from this program, so I took it as a challenge! After all, I had the skills, the intellect, the adaptability, the desire to change the world for the better - all qualities required for this line of work.
Sure, the other students might have inhuman strength - but I had enough determination and sheer will to overwhelm them in battle.
They might have telepathy on their side - but I countered their psychic ability by being extremely unpredictable.
They could manipulate the elements, teleport in the blink of an eye, or phaze away - I always had another plan ready to stop them in their tracks.
Some of my fellow classmates did not handle this well at all; they told our squad leader that my ability to adapt made me extremely dangerous, unreliable, untrustworthy.
Thus, I was denied graduation in a very dishonest way - by being branded Number 13.
When you know only the top twelve get their diploma, it stings a little bit to be the first one who did not make it.
Saying that it was a massive blow to my confidence would be quite the understatement - I was completely crushed.
After these events, I had a lot of free time to meditate on how unfairly I've been treated by my peers, and my sadness slowly shifted into anger.
I decided to embrace my desire for vengeance and decided to turn to the dark side.
After all, they've found a way to end my superhero career, so I would make sure to end theirs as well.
An eye for an eye and all that, you know.
At first, they didn't take me seriously at all; for my former colleagues, I was still just little unpredictable Thirteen.
To show them I meant business, I used what little money I could gather from doing small jobs for bigger threats to get cybernetic implants to increase my body strength - combined with my incredible ability to adapt to their fighting strategies, they would make me near unstoppable.
Thus, it did not take long for a promising villain, Lord Helium to take me under their wing.
We bonded rather fast due to similar backgrounds; we were never taken seriously by the ones we considered our equals and thus, we turned to villainy to get our point across.
Soon, our business relationship evolved into a beautiful friendship, and then, into actual romance.
I would do anything for Helium, and I know he'd do the exact same for me.
Now, I know what you're thinking; you're gonna ask me "You know that this cannot last forever, right?".
Oh trust me, I know that eventually, it's gonna come to an end. Good always triumphing over evil and all. It always happens.
But until they lock me up for good, I am gonna make them pay.
