THERE'S NO PARTY LIKE A VAMPIRE PARTY

Jason Shawcross is constantly trying to do his best out of a difficult life. That's how it's always been, ever since his mom got sick and his dad walked out on their family. He's a survivor, after all, or perhaps just enough of a stubborn bastard to not know when to quit. Still, trying his best is better than crying about it, right?

That's what he always told himself, to keep that damn smile on his face.

As an overworked programmer during the day and club DJ at night, Jason struggled but managed to pay for his younger brother’s tuition and his mother’s hospital bills. Despite a somewhat messy lifestyle of casual hookups and terrible sleeping habits, he was managing both the nightmares and paranoia much better than when he was younger. He has real life friends to party with and online friends to game with - a surprisingly welcoming guild that so desperately needed a good bard to handle the, ahem, social and buffing sides of things. He was even saving up a bit to try to finally see a counselor for the first time. Things weren't perfect, but they were looking up. He felt hopeful like he hadn't in years.

Unfortunately, Jason’s life took yet another turn during the fatidic night where he ended up turned into a vampire against his will.

Her name was Arianna, and he met her through his mates at their usual hangout club. She was the fancy and mysterious sort, and seemed to know a lot about him already. She also seemed to be more into him than he was into her. He didn't know how much, though... Not until her fangs were already in his neck, as she drained the life out of him.

I want to share my gift with you, Jason, she whispered. But her gift was death itself.

Being a vampire is no easy task, it turns out. There's more to it than just hiding from the sun and drinking blood. There are laws and rules, there's secrecy and influence, there's lying to every mortal you ever knew about your untimely demise, and there's a whole community of backstabbing bloodsuckers - with one in particular holding a very tight leash around his neck. Still, unlife has its perks: he has cool powers, he no longer gets sick, he can stay up all night without feeling like shit, he can bid his time and carve up his reputation in this underground community, he can learn about magic and all dark things hidden beyond his previous reach... And you wouldn't know how much not buying food saves on bills! Truly, it at least partially pays up having to put up with his killer until he can get rid of her. Surely.

At least he can still game, right?

It turns out there was a whole world out there, hidden in the dark beyond his reach. A world of magic, monsters and madness. A world of blessings and curses. And despite everything, he can't help but be drawn to it - if only to prevent someone else to get lured further like he did. He even met a few already, others victims, or perhaps other survivors. People who count on him to be their bridge back from the underworld. And that's well enough reason to keep trying.

That's life, after all. His death was truly only the beginning.
