Unicorn Beauty

Three brothers, unicorns, were born on an island not on any map and untouched by mortal hands. Nothing happened on this land that was not done by Mother Nature herself. The land nourished them, providing everything they needed to grow, plenty of food to eat, water to drink and it seemed the weather was never anything but ideal and comfortable. Together they would explore and they were still young-lings by the time they had finished and knew every inch of the lands by heart.

Here they contently lived day by day, still young and innocent enough that daydreams or thoughts about what might lay beyond the water never touched them. That is until the day they had a visitor, a large reptilian creature as red as a rose that bloomed on one of the bushes in the forest. The four, dragon and unicorns, watched each other from a distance for some time before the dragon approached. He smelled of new and curious scents but his size was frightening and the three colts retreated. It would only be a few hours before they would meet again but the dragon was no longer large and imposing, he was a man, and at the sight of him in such a form the three brothers changed as well.

The three having been alone knew only a language they shared between them and what the dragon said to them was unclear and a mystery, they knew only that he was called Bane. His gestures however spoke clearly and he would offer them one thing they could not attain themselves, adventure beyond the shores of their island. So the three gathered into his careful claws were carried away from the island, over lands and finally to the mountain castle the dragon called home. Here he would teach them a new lifestyle, teach them to speak a new language.. multiples even, to read and write, to sing and play instruments. He would also give them names.

To the eldest, with his eyes of blue, he called Diamond and bestowed upon him treasures with the fine jewel including a headdress he wears to his day that glints and shines against the brilliant rich blue of his hair. He showed him how to treat his skin to keep it clean and shining, and the unicorn favors a sweet rain scent to his lotions and bath waters. The doting and fawning over the boy really got to his head and now older Diamond is vain and self-absorbed and will spend hours tending and preening himself before mirrors. This seems to be no problem to Bane who loves to see that the unicorn is caring for himself and keeping himself in a fine state of appearance as lovely as any of the other dragon's treasures. Diamond has adjusted to his life with the dragon and seems to have no desires to leave this place of comfort.

"Am I truly your most beautiful treasure? Tell me again."
The one who promotes his vanity and provides for his self indulgences. Without the wealthy dragon to fund his lavish lifestyle the unicorn would surely be lost and he has not desire to seek any other lifestyle than the one he lives now where he can be praised and adored not only by himself but by the dragon.

"Why do you stare out that window,
surely there are prettier things look at. Like me."
Diamond's younger brother, they two have almost absolutely nothing in common and for the most part do not associate with each other. The only thing they can agree on is the well-being and safety of the youngest brother.

"You are so silly, get off the ground before you ruin your clothes.
Oh my, is this a spot on my favorite garment?!"
The youngest of the three brothers, only the carefree Onyx seems to be able to bring them all together. When the young one was in trouble it brought not only the dragon out of his home but the two brothers as well to see that Onyx returned safely.
