Story

Sweets n’ Things is more than just a bakery located on the corner of Illumis Avenue and Telenine Street. It is a confectionary delight shaped of wood trim painted to look like decorative icing and sprinkled with concrete pipes that have all the eye-grabbing color of those rainbow strips of sugar that coat the surface of Subeta's best doughnuts. Bernadettera offers over two hundred baked goods in varying flavors and shapes to suit every season but her special love for cupcakes is made known in the shape of her shop.

Nobody who walks into Sweets n’ Things can walk back out without a smile on their face. Adette works behind a glass-fronted counter that displays hundreds of tempting options, shaping tiny blue birds on a triple-tiered wedding cake and easily shifting her attention to mixing up just the right shade of pink icing that will shape a little girl's name on her birthday cake. Drank-ula is no less a part of the experience. The minion has a system of pulleys that allows him to zip from one end of the shop to another in a little cart, scribbling down the desires of customers and presenting them with tiny samples to get them excited to try the shop's latest offerings.

The little shelf above the preparation counter holds a small stereo with teal speakers. Adette owns a pack of eight classic rock CDs that contain all the best hits of the last fifty years, from the Bumbus Blues to Rock that Rreign and Swing that Swampie. Though Adette knows the songs by heart, she never tires of playing them as she works and whistling along. She moves easily from decorating to arranging display plates to preparing customer orders in the special compartmental bakery boxes she designed herself. Little cardboard flaps keep the goodies from smearing against their neighbors or leaving gobs of icing stuck to the roof of the box. When you pull a Sweets n’ Things treat from the box, it must look as it did when Bernie pulled it from the display or you'll be refunded the price of that item.

She'll gladly take the time to tell you about the wall of awards and the three huge trophies won at national baking competitions but it is best not to ask about her past.

She'd taken no part in the heist on Subeta Bank. Her only mistake had been to befriend a montre with his paw in the crime world who sweet-talked her into holding a shipment of cloth bags she thought were full of clothing donations. Adette's mug shot making it onto the front page of The Subeta Tribune. She spent nearly a year of her life in jail, separated from her husband and true love, Zearo.

She will forever be grateful to Officer Donahuea, the member of the Centropolis Squad that cracked the truth about Adette's case. She sees to it that the clever cop receives a special box of salted caramel pretzel brownies every week as a baker's way of saying thanks.

Hey the name is Bernadettera, it means, "Strong, Brave Bear". I was painted Bloodred on 2/18/10. Anyone can walk the walk or talk the talk, or even look the part, but very few can do all 3 and still be themselves. If you can't tell I'm a force you don't want to mess with. Not only does my name mean "Strong Brave Bear" I know how to live up to it. I can be your best friend or your biggest enemy, your choice, but if I were you, I'd pick friends and be sure to keep on my good side, and yes I have one, or it'll be your blood that covers my coat!
