Saraoi is trying to forge a new place for herself in the strange world that she lives in. She left her family home, abandoning a vindictive sister and her soul-twin brother. Being the youngest in the family and thus the one who was destined to rule over the others when she was old enough, this escape shocked her parents who sent out her siblings to find her and return her.

She left behind her old life, her old name and her old personality. She cut her hair, adopted the name Breeze, and swore never to cowtow to authority again. Yet after losing her way she finds herself being employed by none other than Aspen whose moodswings toward her keep her confused as to how he feels. In her mind he offers her some protection from the horrors of life though, and so she stays despite knowing that she sacrifices all her ambitions by doing so.
