Medini's mother was, as Abirad would later put it, "some random throwaway whore" he'd met while on his way to a casino. She was hot, she was looking for a good time and so was he, so they spent the night together. However, the morning after when Abi left, something went wrong. The girl had gotten pregnant from this one-night stand with the future Medini di Firenze. At first, she planned to abort it, but after seeing Abirad's face in the paper and realizing who he was, she decided she would use the girl's existence to blackmail him. She nurtured the fetus for 8 months before going to the corporation and proudly stating to Maledetto di Firenze she was pregnant with her brother's child. This was a Bad Idea. Mal was smarter than your average woman- her creed stated she could harm nobody innocent and the fetus counted as an innocent. The company had just made it's meteoric rise to the top and if she didn't do SOMETHING this could wreck it...
At the time, she simply sent the woman on her way, more or less saying the paternity test would prove her wrong, and what followed for the woman was a month of hell. Strange people, knives left in doors, gunfire in the middle of the night, strange men watching her car or appearing in her windows. Mal MUST have gone back on her creed. It was either make an attempt to extort the money and be killed by Mal's goons, or give the baby up and get out of town. She chose the latter- she had the baby at a hospital via c-section and immediately took it to the Church of Lunar Genesis. She'd heard the rumors that they would take in unwanted children- and pay good money for them. She handed over the baby, got enough SP for a plane ticket out of Centropolis, and just as she prepared to leave... there was a rather smug looking Maledetto waiting for her.
Maledetto entered the Church nonchalantly and plucked the baby from the waiting doctor's arms. "What's her name?" she quietly cooed, looking into the baby's eyes.
"According to her mother, her name is Raven."
"That is NOT her name."
"What is it, then?"
"Medini. Medini Luisella di Firenze. My niece."
