In a world where the supernatural is not only common and present in society, but accepted within it, there must be branches of law enforcement for supernatural crime. Billie works as a specialist in those missing children cases that are suspected to be of a more magical nature; Ell is a trainee in the same department. Barley meanwhile, is a demon bartender in a bar called The Glass Ceiling.

Ell is a mere human in this world. They're in training at the law enforcement agency where Billie works, and they become her assistant/partner/trainee - much to the latter's dismay. The pair end up building an unlikely friendship. Ell often joins Billie on her near-nightly visits to The Glass Ceiling - where Barley often tips them off to suspicious activity in the city where they reside.

Ell is a total sweetheart. They're very friendly and instantly likeable for most people. They can be quite intense and passionate: an all-or-nothing type! Ell gets flustered easily but works well under real pressure: it's this unexpected skill that impresses Billie. Ell cares a lot about their family and friends and makes it a mission to help them if needed.

Their younger brother disappeared when they were very young, and Ell chose to join the law enforcement department because of this.

Billie initially rejects Ell: as their boss, she's a total workaholic and insists that Ell call her only by her surname at first. As Billie is somewhat closed off, she will actually be able to learn a lot from Ell's positive outlook despite all odds.

Also, Ell really likes jazz music from the 60's, which they always encourage Barley to play on the evenings they frequent the bar! Actually, Ell will probably end up falling for Barley, which will annoy Billie endlessly as she won't want them distracted from their detective work.
