๐Ÿ”’ Account Break-ins
In late June, a small number of (mostly inactive) accounts were broken into and stripped of everything they owned.

Every one of these break-ins happened the same way, through the lost-password flow. If there's one thing to take from this, it's to change your email password and use one you don't use anywhere else, because a compromised inbox is keys to all of your digital accounts.

Once they were in, they emptied the account. They listed everything in the account's own shop for a single point and bought it through throwaway alts, then moved on to the next account. We caught it, froze the accounts doing the buying after an investigation (and ensuring they didn't have access to any more accounts), and reset the passwords on the accounts that were broken into so they couldn't be touched again.

Then we went back through the shop logs and rebuilt, item by item, exactly what left each account. Everyone who was hit is getting a fresh copy of everything that was taken. Stolen gift cards come back as Cash Shop Credits rather than new cards, credited straight to the account. You can see your own list on the returned items page.

One honest note about custom wearables. Most of the stolen items had already been resold, at fair prices, to players who had no idea they were buying stolen goods. There were thousands of those sales, and unwinding them would only turn thousands of innocent buyers into new victims. So we left those purchases alone and gave the original owners fresh copies instead. That does mean a handful of custom wearables now exist in slightly larger numbers than they did before. Returning people's items is worth that to us, and I would make the same call again.

If you were affected and something still looks missing after all this, open a ticket and we'll help as soon as we can.

STILL TOO EASY TO GET? Work out how to create this book then!

Just a reminder: the Masquerade ends at 11:59pm on July 15. The Hacked Waitron and Ballroom Enforcer (new challengers this year) will both retire at the end of the holiday due to their ties to the dance floor. The rest of the Masquerade challengers will retire 11:59pm on July 19.

New: Quartermasters buying high rarity items

While you've all been doing millions (billions? trillions?) of quests over the years, the quest givers have had trouble sourcing the rarer items on Subeta. No longer. They've brought in a crew of Quartermasters to find and supply those items... from your shops.

All day long, the quartermasters work their way through the user shops and buy rarity 90-99 items, paying your asking price up to a cap for each rarity. A ton of these sit unsold, mostly because they have no use beyond being rare, and now they have a buyer. A few rules keep it from being farmed; the Quartermasters page has the caps and how it works. The buyers have a set amount of sP they can spend per day, so it's not a promise that your items will get bought.

Note: This is one of my first real attempts, in more than 20 years, at putting a floor under the price of anything on Subeta. It's an experiment, and I'll be tuning it as I watch how it goes.

NPC Sideline Item Changes!
Rave Lurby
I've added a range of "new" retired items to the NPCs found on the Sidelines in the Ballroom. I attempted to pull retired foods and clothing from past holidays. Enjoy!

The Sidelines will get "new" retired items soon!
Masquerade Terracoon Plushie
Around 11:59pm today (July 7), I will be adding "new" retired items to the prize books for the various NPCs on the Sidelines. I will not be closing the Sidelines while I add items since a lot of you are working towards the new challenger.

I'll add the "new" retired items first, then remove the older retired prizes. I'll be as quick as possible not to disturb y'alls effort to help the NPCs. The new items of this year (like the neon halos or the glow belts) will not be removed.

Masquerade Challengers
Have you been keeping the various Gossips fed and hydrated? Unfortunately, you've taken that job away from the Hacked Waitron, causing her to malfunction. Instead of helping, she's ready to fight. To unlock: Give 1,000 food and/or drinks to the NPCs and then visit the Ballroom.

Security is intense in the ballroom. The Ballroom Enforcer finds dancing with the gossips pretty suspicious, so get ready for a battle if you do. To unluck: Dance with all five gossips and then visit the Ballroom.

Not enough battling for you? Take a break from the floor to fight older challengers like Blaire, the Mecharachnid, Baron Blanaby, and more!
