Changelog

These are pulled ✨ automatically ✨ from the code, with some slight tweaks. Updated regularly, with a lot of updates for a 20+ year old site!

June 2026

Try a hairstyle on before you buy it Subeta New Feature

Open a locked style in the Hair Salon and you'll see it on your avatar with the full color controls, so you can set your shades and decide before spending anything. Buy it with sP (or use its item) once you're sure, and it's yours to wear and save.

Dancing with every Gossip is within reach again Subeta Bug Fix

🐛 Bug Fix: Anthony and Abigail barely showed up to dance, so their achievements were stuck.
The five Gossips step in to keep quiet dance rooms moving, but they were seated in a fixed order that usually ran out before it reached Anthony and Abigail. The two of them only turned up reliably in the Grand Ballroom, which not everyone could get onto, so most people could never get paired with them. They now spread evenly across all the dance rooms, so you can dance with each Gossip and finish the set.

The Grand Ballroom also has a higher limit, and rotates folks out faster. I'm going to increase the pace of dances in the Grand Ballroom too, to make sure everyone at least gets a few before being rotated out.

Buying at the Libertine Lounge and Steamworks Menagerie keeps you on the page Subeta Improvement

🔍 Improvement: buying food and drinks no longer reloads the shop every time.
Each purchase used to send you to a confirmation page, then reload the whole shop and its tab when you came back, so stocking up for the Masquerade NPCs meant sitting through that on every item. The Buy button now works in place: your trinket balance updates, a quick note confirms what you bought, and you stay right where you are.

🔧 Technical: the two shops load quicker.
They were re-running their full item list on every page and tab load. That's cached now, so the shops and their tabs come up faster.

A tidier Toybox Subeta Improvement

Toys your pet has already played no longer sit in the way as grayed-out cards you can't pick, so the list is shorter and goes straight to what's left. The Toys Played tab still lists everything your pet has played.

Garden harvest alerts work again Subeta Bug Fix

After you harvested a plot and planted something new, the alert stopped resetting, so it went quiet even with the setting on. That is fixed, and every plant already growing in your garden was reset, so you get your alerts back without replanting anything.

Gardens have shareable links now Subeta New Feature

Your garden lives at a more shareable subeta.net/garden/yourname, and there is a copy-link button right on the page so you can drop it in a forum post or hand it to a friend.

🔍 Improvement: find a gardener by name from the Pollinator's Hub.
Type a username into the new search box and it takes you straight to their garden.

Shop search stops favoring the oldest shops Subeta Improvement

The cheapest shops still come first; only the tie between equal prices gets shuffled, so an old shop no longer holds a permanent spot at the top of the list. When more shops share a price than the list can show, which ones make the cut is now random too, so newer shops finally get seen.

The Rank link on your pets page works again Subeta Bug Fix

It had stopped loading. Click "Click to show" on a trained pet to see where it places among every trained pet, ranked by its health, strength, defence, and speed (the same stats behind its Tier), along with the percentile it lands in. A pet that hasn't trained much yet shows a note instead of a rank, since the bottom of the list is almost all brand new pets.

Visiting gardens helps plants grow a lot more Subeta Improvement

🔍 Improvement: a well-visited garden can now grow its plants up to 50% faster in a day.
Every visitor shaves a little off your plants' remaining grow time, and the daily limit on that help is much higher than it used to be, so opening your garden and drawing visitors really helps your plants grow.

🔍 Improvement: the visit boost now builds up over the day instead of landing all at once.
A rush of visitors first thing used to spend the whole day's boost in one moment, so now it unlocks gradually through the day and a steady stream of visitors adds up to the most growth.

The Battle Spheres are open again Subeta New Feature

Train your pets across the sphere again, with new talents since the last run, a dodge lane that lets a pet evade part of a hit, and a splash lane that carries damage to the rest of a Horde (a 1v3 feature in testing).

👑 New Feature: save up to three loadouts per pet.
Build three different talent sets, switch between them on the sphere page, and mark one as your default. When you start a single battle or a Horde you pick which loadout your pet brings, the same way you choose weapons and scrolls.

Frozen accounts drop out of the rankings and item counts Subeta Improvement

🔍 Improvement: frozen accounts no longer show up on the leaderboards.
The Pet Stat Leaderboards, About page stats and the Battle High Scores all skip accounts that have been frozen, so the rankings fill back up with players who are still around. Thanks to the folks who pointed out how many frozen accounts were sitting at the top.

🔍 Improvement: the Item Directory counts only active players.
How many of an item sit in inventories, in vaults, and on wishlists now leaves out frozen accounts, so the totals show what's actually in circulation instead of being padded by frozen vaults.

Subeku got rebuilt Subeta New Feature

We really didn't need a whole game engine for this one! The whole game has been rewritten.

👑 New Feature: Subeku plays on your phone now.
It has a tap-friendly number pad and a board that scales to your screen, so you can solve a puzzle on mobile for the first time!

🔍 Improvement: Subeku pays more, and every win drops a book 📚.
Solving now pays 5,000 to 25,000 sP depending on difficulty, and each win also hands you a random book for your collection.

🔍 Improvement: Subeku works with a keyboard and a screen reader.
Arrow keys move around the grid, number keys fill cells, and the board reads itself out loud for the first time.

🔍 Improvement: refreshing the page keeps your puzzle.
Your board is saved as you go, so a reload drops you right back where you were instead of starting over. You leave a puzzle by finishing it or starting a new one.

Emma's Rainbow packets carry a bonus seed Subeta New Feature

👑 New Feature: the Rainbow Mystery Seed Packet drops a bonus seed right now.
Open Emma's most expensive packet on the garden page and one of seven special seeds lands in alongside the usual three.

This is for a _limited time_ (~2 weeks) to let these items start to get circulated more and planted.

Pete Says got rebuilt Subeta New Feature

🔧 Technical: Pete Says runs on a new engine.
It's the first of our "arcade" games to move off the 2013 engine they were all built on, so we can work on them again. Your scores, high score tables, and achievements carry over.

The engine we were using previously hasn't had updates since 2013, and the community on the engine we've moved to (Phaser) is really active.

This was the easiest game the old engine with the least moving parts, but the rest of the games should start getting moved to the new engine (and then start getting new modes, levels and stuff like that!)

👑 New Feature: Pete Says plays on your phone.
The board scales to your screen and the buttons take taps.

🔍 Improvement: Pete Says works with a keyboard and screen reader.
Number keys 1 to 5 press the buttons, and the menus and sound toggle are reachable without a mouse.

🆕 Achievements.
A couple of new achievements (with placeholder images for now!) that take advantage of the new engine. The ones that could be backfilled were!

The Donation Corner got a makeover Subeta New Feature

👑 New Feature: Grab bags at the Donation Corner.
When the corner is holding more than 1,000 items, you can pay 25,000 sP for a grab bag of 25 random items, once a day. The sP goes to the donation center and the very important (?) work that it does, the items go to you.

👑 New Feature: Donate without leaving the corner.
A new Donate tab lets you pick up to 20 items from your inventory and drop them into the corner in one go, instead of donating one at a time from your inventory or heading all the way over to quickstock.

🔍 Improvement: No more refreshing.
A Shuffle button shows you a fresh spread of 18 items in place, and after you grab something the items grey out with a countdown until your next grab.

🐛 Misc fixes
Browsing is faster and the item count is accurate now. There were some major issues with the way the items worked on this page previously, hopefully this should lead to overall reduced side lag too when there are lots of items!

The wishlist heart is smaller and out of the way Subeta Improvement

The hover heart for wishlisting items is smaller and now sits in the lower-left corner. It covers less of the item art, and it waits a beat before appearing so it stops flashing on every item your cursor passes over.

It's still keyboard accessible!

Main shops stock deeper and allow for multiple purchases Subeta New Feature

👑 New Feature: Buy in bulk when the shelf is deep.
Any main-shop item with more than 10 in stock has a "Buy multiple" button now: pick how many (up to 20), see the total, and buy the stack in one go. A bulk buy only counts once toward the purchase cooldown. This came from Kumos, a feature people enjoyed.

🔍 Improvement: The purchase cooldown forgives you faster.
Heavy buying still slows you down, but a 30 minute break now clears your cooldown completely, and the slowdowns themselves are about half as long as they were.

🔍 Improvement: The main shops carry about twice as much stock.
Shops now fill to roughly 665 items instead of 325. Common items come in deep stacks, so if someone corners a cheap restockable in user shops, the main shop keeps selling it at the normal price until the squeeze stops paying. Rare items show up in more variety but in small amounts, usually one or two at a time, and they rotate through faster, so checking back often is worth it.

🎨 Visual Update: The shop page is denser and quicker to read.
Less scrolling between you and the item you want: the grid packs more items per row, and item hovers finally work right on the shop page, with the description and a try-on preview for wearables. The hover keeps the shop's secrets, though: no rarity, no resale price. Knowing which item is the find is still your job. The restock time sits at the top of the page, the shop directory shows when each shop last restocked. Buying works exactly as before.

Buttons should stop dodging your clicks. Subeta Bug Fix

If you clicked while a page was still loading (restocking, questing, picking a new active pet), images finishing their load could shift the whole page right under your cursor, so the click landed where the button used to be. Pet pages, quest pages, Battle Quests, and item images across the site now hold their space while they load, so buttons stay put.

The "create ad" link fits its billboard now. Subeta Visual Update

The skinny vertical link next to billboard banners used to poke out above and below the ad; it now matches the banner's height exactly and follows your theme's colors. On the mobile layout it sits as a small link under the banner instead.

Hover to wishlist more accessible Subeta Improvement

The hover to wishlist functionality has been updated to be more accessible and navigable by keyboard. It now is a little ❤️ that pops up when you hover - let me know if you don't like it!

Emma's garden quest completes again! Subeta Bug Fix

Growing a plant for Emma takes more than a day, and the quest was quietly expiring overnight before you could hand it in, so harvesting your plant never paid out the sP or the seed packet; deliver her the plant you grew and the quest finishes and rewards you the way it should.

The wishlist border shows up in dark mode. Subeta Bug Fix

The blue border around items on your wishlist was almost invisible on dark themes with dark content mode enabled, and the +/- Wishlist label was hard to read; both are clear now!

Inline item links with sCode Subeta New Feature

Wrap an item's name in double brackets — like [[Red Ball]] — and it becomes a small underlined link with the same hover card the item code gives you, without dropping the whole item image into your text. Handy for naming an item mid-sentence on the forums, your profile, or a shop description.

I'm not sure how we haven't had this before, but it should make adding items to things like forum posts much easier!

Ying can rescue a slipped bathhouse streak! Subeta New Feature

Miss a day or two at the Bathhouse Pools and your check-in streak no longer has to reset to zero. Come back within a few days and Ying will keep your pool warm, stitching the missed days back in so your streak carries on right where you left off. She can only manage this once in a while, so don't lean on it too hard.

Collections shop. Subeta New Feature

Every monthly collection now lives on one page — buy a sealed collection to keep, or skip straight to the one item inside that you actually want, both for the same price. Anything wearable can go right to your wardrobe from the receipt, and retired collections are kept in a year-by-year archive you can look back through. Find it under "Collections" in the Cash Shop.

Quick Sale shelf! Subeta New Feature

When a cheap shop item gets bought out and relisted at a wild markup, there is a chance it now shows up on a "Quick Sale" shelf at the top of its shop, kept stocked at the normal price. Grab what you need without overpaying — up to 50 of an item a day, so no one can corner it all over again.

You could help lower the price of the item (and auto-pricers) by buying up a chunk and putting them in your shop ;)

The autopricer keeps your price when you're already the lowest. Subeta Bug Fix

If your shop held the cheapest price on an item, the autopricer tried to raise it to the next seller's price instead of leaving it alone — so being the lowest seller worked against you. Now the Lowest strategy never raises an already-competitive price: if you're at or below the cheapest other shop, your price stays put, and the nightly Auto Auto Pricer leaves it alone too.

May 2026

Autopricer Subeta Improvement

🔍 Improvement: Average pricing follows the stock now.
On the autopricer's Average setting, each shop counts by how many copies it's holding instead of one vote apiece — so a single shop sitting on one wildly-priced copy no longer drags your average around, and the price tracks where the volume actually is.

🔍 Improvement: The autopricer holds back suspicious underprices.
When a price would land far below an item's real market value — the kind of trap where someone lists a copy for next to nothing to catch autopricers — we now leave that item unchecked with a warning instead of quietly pricing it down to a fraction of its worth. Switch any held item back on if you meant to sell low.

🔍 Improvement: Spot your biggest price drops at a glance.
The preview now shows the percentage change beside each new price, and you can sort by "Biggest drop" to put the scariest changes right at the top — no more scrolling a 700-item list hunting for the one that tanked.

Battle keyboard shortcuts Subeta New Feature

You can now run a fight from the keyboard. Press <kbd>Space</kbd> to take your turn, <kbd>1</kbd>–<kbd>8</kbd> to pick your weapons, and <kbd>S</kbd> or <kbd>P</kbd> for your first spell or potion. With preselection on, just tap space each round.

Ricardo's Lucky Slots Updates Subeta Improvement

🔍 Improvement: Ricardo lets you spin in peace.
Ricardo used to jump in front of the machine now and then with a little quiz you had to answer before spinning again. He's put the chalkboard away — the reels play straight through now. With the quiz gone, the "Ricardo's Best Friend" achievement you earned through it is retired; if you already earned it, it's yours to keep. This was an anti-bot measure, but now we've got other tricks 🤖

🔍 Improvement: Fewer breathers, and shorter ones.
Ricardo's "take a breather" cooldown now holds off much longer before it kicks in, and when it does the pause is shorter than it used to be.

User Creation Studio refresh Subeta Improvement

🔍 Improvement: Each achievement is now open for one prize type.
Before, every achievement we added to the studio was open for *all three* — title, avatar border, and reaction image. Most achievements really only want one of those, and seeing three open slots on each row felt like make-work. Staff now picks the prize type when they open an achievement (title, border, or reaction), and the studio shows that one slot. Inspired by Syfyri's writeup in thread 944064, and one I'd been wanting to fix myself.

🔍 Improvement: Forum title submissions support before-username, after-username, or both.
The title submission form was a single text box that didn't let you say whether your title goes before, after, or wraps around the username. Now there are two boxes with Username sitting between them — fill in whichever side you mean (or both, for wrap titles like *"If ever a whiz there was Username is a whiz because"*). A live preview shows you exactly how it'll read with your own username plugged in.

🐛 Bug Fix: Submission authors and achievements are linked everywhere now.
The studio was showing usernames as plain text and achievement names without links. Authors now use the standard linked user widget (with hover card) and every achievement name links to its detail page. Suggested by Syfyri.

🐛 Bug Fix: Reaction image guidance now says 64×64.
The reaction image upload field was suggesting 200×200, but reactions across the site display at 64×64 — so anything bigger was getting downscaled into mush. The hint also now mentions transparent backgrounds, which is the same requirement that already applied to borders.

Forum Point Changes & Social Scene Revival Subeta New Feature

🔍 Improvement: Forum points now reward starting conversations.
We retired the old random-chance forum-point system (where you'd occasionally get a point for any reply, including one-word forum-game posts). Now: the first new topic you start each day in a Social Scene forum earns you 1 forum point. If five different people reply to your topic, you get a +3 bonus. Staff and recognized users still award +1/+3/+5 on great posts anywhere. This was always meant to reward activity and building community on the forums, and this is more in line with using it as a carrot to drive activity.

👑 New Feature: Five new forums for movies, music, books, games, and life!
We've revived the Social Scene category with five new homes for the stuff you actually want to talk about: 🎬 Screen & Stage (TV/movies/streaming), 🎵 Sound Booth (music/concerts/podcasts), 📖 Library (books/comics/manga), 🎮 Game Night (video & board games), and 🌿 Life Outside Subeta (photos, hobbies, what you're up to). Start a fresh topic in any of them and tell us what you've been into.

🎨 Visual Update: Prompt cards in Social Scene forums.
Each Social Scene forum now opens with a "this week, try writing about…" card with three rotating ideas, a prominent "Start a topic" button, and a list of the freshest recent threads — to help break the mega-thread reflex and make it easy to start something new.

 • 📖 Improvement: New "How Forum Points Work" guide page. There's a full explanation of how to earn and spend forum points, including what changed and how staff recognition works, at /help/forum-points.php.

Wardrobe drawers, levelled up Subeta New Feature

🐛 Bug Fix: Smart drawers actually filter items now.
When you clicked a smart drawer pill in the wardrobe (Recently Added, Custom Wearables, Rare Items, Hats & Hair, Classic Items, or one of your own), the page wasn't filtering — it was just showing your whole wardrobe regardless of the drawer's rules. The frontend was sending the request; the backend was politely ignoring it. Smart drawers now do what the label promises: every rule is evaluated server-side, including layer, color, custom-wearable, rarity, value (sP), "added in the last N days", "released N+ years ago", name-contains, and label.

👑 New Feature: Move items into drawers from the Management page.
The Wardrobe → Management page now has a 📁 To drawer ▾ button in the bulk-action bar — select 3, 30, or 300 items and assign them to a drawer in one click. There's also a + Create new drawer… shortcut inline, so you can spin up "Halloween outfits" and dump items into it without leaving the page. Each row shows its current drawer as a small chip you can click to reassign just that one item.

🐛 Bug Fix: Pinning an outfit on the Outfits page actually works now.
Clicking the pin icon on a saved outfit was throwing "Unknown wardrobe endpoint: outfit-features.php" — the API route that handles pin / unpin / reorder was never wired into the wardrobe router, so every click bounced off a 404. Hooked it up so the pin toggle saves correctly and your selection shows on your hover card.

Trapped Minions Achievements Fixed Subeta Bug Fix

🐛 Bug Fix: Shiny Hunter and the other Trapped Minions achievements now track correctly.
If your feed pushed a bubble over the satisfaction threshold but the lottery sent the minion home with someone else, your Bubble Popper, Rescue Helper, Species Collector, and especially Shiny Hunter achievements weren't ticking up — even though the bubble was credited to your stats. The progress sync only ran when the specific user roles for a given pop lined up, so plenty of legitimate pops slipped through unrecorded. Every feed now resyncs all four achievements from your real stats, so they catch up automatically.

🐛 Bug Fix: The Trapped Minions achievements panel now shows real progress.
The progress bars on the achievements tab were reading from the wrong achievement table — so even users with maxed-out tiers saw "0 / 1 shiny bubble popped" and no "Complete!" badge. The panel now reads from the same place the writes land, so your real numbers and earned tiers show up immediately.

Restocking improvements Subeta Improvement

🐛 Bug Fix: Uncommon items are back on the shelves.
Items in the uncommon rarity range (rarity 41–60) had quietly stopped showing up in NPC shops — Cinnamon Cream Coffee Cake, Cherry Candy Rocks, Mallarchy Care, and many others hadn't restocked in well over a month. The restocking system was processing rare tiers first (good), then commons (also good), but the way the budgets were set up meant common items always ate the leftover capacity before the uncommon pass ever ran. Each rarity tier now gets its own guaranteed slice of every shop's shelf space, so uncommons can't be crowded out. Common items still take whatever's left over, but they can't gobble up the whole shop anymore. Thanks to the players who flagged this.

🔍 Improvement: No more permanently-skipped items.
Inside each rarity tier, the items that have gone the longest without being restocked now get picked first, instead of being chosen at random. Newly-added items (those that have never been restocked) jump to the front of the line. The end result: every item in a shop's catalog cycles through reliably rather than depending on luck, so nothing should ever drop off the shelves and be forgotten again.

Merana Returns to the Map Subeta Bug Fix

🐛 Bug Fix: Merana the Sea Witch is appearing on the explore map again.
For the past couple of months Merana had stopped showing up entirely — multiple users on the forums (FENNEC, Hypnos, rawnie) reported waiting weeks or months without a single sighting, which also meant no hydrus pets could be made in that window. The page that scheduled her appearances was a manual admin tool that nobody had been running; the spawn is now a daily worker job, so she'll keep wandering through every few days on her own. If you've been waiting on a hydrus, watch the map.

Hover Background Update Subeta Improvement

🎨 Visual Update: Hover background colors now match the real pet palettes.
Almost every pet-color hover background has been retuned to use the actual hues from its namesake pet — Galactic is now navy with starlight instead of bright magenta, Nightmare is monochrome grey instead of purple, Arid is the real pink/grey palette instead of yet-another-tan, Spectrum is the soft prismatic gradient from the spectrum pet instead of a harsh saturated rainbow, and Darkmatter gets back its signature magenta highlight. Massive thanks to for sampling palettes directly from the pet art and posting a side-by-side breakdown in the forums.

🔍 Improvement: "Sync from achievements" button retroactively unlocks backgrounds.
If you've ever owned a colored pet — even years ago, even before this feature shipped click "Sync from achievements". The site checks your pet-color achievement history (the "Have a Sweetheart Pet" / "Have a Galactic Pet" / etc. lineup) and unlocks every matching background. The sync also runs silently every time you load the cosmetics page, so most players will arrive to a freshly stocked grid without having to push the button at all.

Beta Wardrobe Saves The Outfit You're Actually Building. Subeta Bug Fix

Beta wardrobe wouldn't save outfits-in-progress — the "Save Outfit" button under the avatar preview did nothing at all, and "Save Current Outfit" on the Outfits tab quietly saved whatever you were wearing onsite instead of the look you'd just put together. Both buttons now save the in-progress outfit, so you can put together a look using items you don't own yet, save it for later, and come back to keep tweaking — just like the classic wardrobe. "Save Outfit" on the Avatar tab pops a quick name + privacy modal right there; no more dead clicks. The "save what I'm wearing before switching outfits" prompt (when you click Wear on a different saved outfit) still saves the live avatar, since that's the whole point of that prompt.

Auto Auto Pricer Subeta New Feature

👑 New Feature: Auto Auto Pricer (yes, that's its real name).
Gold Accounts can now toggle automatic daily autopricing on one of their shops. Pick a time of day (30-minute granularity, SBT), pick a strategy (lowest or average), and pick a safety threshold — items whose new price would drop more than that % below their current price are skipped automatically. Set it and (mostly) forget it.

🔍 Improvement: Your free daily autopricer is untouched.
Auto Auto Pricer does NOT use up your one daily free autopricer run — keep that for targeted manual pricing whenever you want during the day. The two run completely independently.

Auction House is back! Subeta New Feature

👑 New Feature: Auctions are open again.
After a long hiatus, the Auction House is back at /auctions.php. All your data is intact — old auction histories, watchlists, the works. Bid on rare finds, list your own, watch what catches your eye. Three currency types are supported: sP for most items, CSC for Custom Wearables, and event currencies via staff-created (for now) auctions.

👑 New Feature: The Vault Curator.
Visit /auctions.php?act=curator and the curator will scan your vault for valuable items you may have forgotten about, pick a mix across price tiers (one wildcard rare, a few high-value, several mid, a handful of approachable), and offer to list each one at curator-chosen prices — starting bid at 70% of the item's recent market price, buyout at 110%, 7-day duration. One click, one listing. Up to 5 curator listings per rolling 24 hours.

👑 New Feature: 0% house cut on curator listings.
Standard sP auctions pay the usual 5% to the auction house. Curator listings keep the full sale price, in exchange for a small trade-off: you can't close them early once they're up. Let the curator do its job.

🔍 Improvement: Live market-aware pricing.
When you open the curator page, every suggestion runs a fresh stable-price calculation against today's user-shop floor and recent auction history before showing you the numbers. If something's selling 2x the cached price in shops right now, the curator's quote reflects that.

April 2026

Wardrobe Outfit Slots, 5× Subeta Improvement

🔍 Improvement: Way More Saved Outfit Slots.
The cap on saved outfits in the wardrobe just got 5× bigger — Gold accounts go from 500 → 2,500 saved outfits, and free accounts from 250 → 1,250. After the legacy → new wardrobe migration a lot of you ended up bumping right up against the old ceiling and couldn't save the HAs you were actively working on without first culling old ones. Take your time pruning at your own pace; the slots are there.

🎨 Visual Update: Outfit Slot Counter.
The Saved Outfits page now shows how many slots you're using at a glance — a live "X / Y outfits saved" line with a progress bar under the page title, plus a little Gold tag if you have a Gold account. The bar quietly turns amber when you're past 90% and red at 100% so you can see the cap creeping up well before you hit it.

Leviathan Harpooning: Sonar Fixes Subeta Bug Fix

🐛 Bug Fix: "Sonar reads 0 leviathans" no longer lies.
The "Sonar reads 0 leviathans in that area" notice was popping up after every harpoon throw and every new game — even when you hadn't pinged anything.

👑 New Feature: Sonar Markers Stay On The Chart.
asked if the sonar reading could stay visible on the board — on the bigger boards (Kraken's Maw and beyond) you have to zoom out to see the whole grid, and the brief flash was easy to miss. Each ping now leaves a soft parchment outline over the 3×3 area you scanned with a count badge in the corner, and they stick around for the rest of the hunt and survive a refresh, so you can plan your next throw against everything you've already scouted.

New Hover Card Subeta New Feature

👑 New Feature: Redesigned Hover Card (opt-in).
The little card that pops up when other players hover your username has had a glow-up. Opt in from Dashboard --> Preferences → Cosmetics → Hover Backgrounds to switch your card to the new layout: a cleaner identity card with your paw, status, and stats up top; your active pet front-and-center; and a featured-achievements row where the medals grid used to be. Other players still see the classic card on anyone who hasn't opted in — nothing changes for free until you turn it on.

👑 New Feature: Featured Achievements.
The achievements that appear on your hover card are the ones you've starred on /achievements.php — hit the ⭐ next to any achievement to feature it. If you haven't starred enough, your most recent earns fill in the rest. Hovering an icon in the card shows its name, so you (and the people peeking at your profile) can finally tell what each one is.

🎨 Visual Update: Pick a Background Gradient.
With the new style on, you also get six curated background gradients to choose from — Warm Parchment, Soft Mint, Twilight, Berry, Sandstone, and Greyscale — all chosen so the text stays readable on any theme. Click in Cosmetics → Hover Backgrounds to set one (or click the active one to clear it).

👑 New Feature: Pet Borders.
Any avatar border you've unlocked can now also frame the pet preview in your hover card. Each border in Cosmetics → Avatar Borders has a new "Use on pet" toggle — flip it on a different border than your avatar's, or the same one, or neither. The borders panel even shows your headshot crop and a side-by-side pet preview so you can see how the pair will look together before you commit.

👑 New Feature: Inline Profile Comments.
Hovering a friend who's on the new card style now shows a small "Leave a comment" disclosure right inside the card — drop a quick note without leaving the page you're on. Posts the same way the full profile composer does, just without the round-trip.

🔍 Improvement: Live Preview For Hover Backgrounds.
Cosmetics → Hover Backgrounds now shows the actual card other players see — your avatar, title, status, pet, and featured achievements — right above the swatch grid. Hover any background to try it on; click to apply. The page also makes it crystal clear that this card is what shows up to *everyone else* who hovers your name around the site.

Leviathan Harpooning Loss Reveal Subeta Improvement

🐛 Bug Fix: Ye Can Finally See Where the Beasties Were Hiding!
When a hunt failed, the result card was a big dimmed modal smack in the middle of the chart — exactly where the revealed leviathan ghosts were drawn. So the moment you most wanted to study the map was the moment the map got covered up, sorry! Players were sharing custom CSS to fix it so I just made it official. After a loss, the result card now tucks itself into the top-left corner (or slides up as a bottom sheet on mobile) with the dim scrim cleared away, so you can read the chart, see what you missed, and decide whether to charge back in.

🔍 Improvement: A Polish Pass on the Whole Hunt.
Tightened the chapter display so the chapter name reads with a touch more authority, bumped the ghost-ship reveal opacity so missed leviathans actually look like missed leviathans (especially on the dark themes — Shadowglen, Darkside, Morostide), and made sure every animation steps aside for prefers-reduced-motion (for users who get motion sick) — including the sonar pulse, the count bubble, and Angrybeard's toast. Also rebuilt the "previous expedition" callout on the entry panel as a labelled note instead of a colored stripe.

Comment Spam Cleanup Subeta Bug Fix

🐛 Bug Fix: Spam Comments Hidden!
A few brand-new throwaway accounts had been spamming the comments on a couple of older Weekend Quests posts — same paragraph pasted dozens of times in a row. The accounts have been frozen, and all 179 of their visible comments are now hidden so you don't have to scroll past them anymore.

🔧 Technical: Public Comments Are Rate-Limited Now.
News and changelog comments now have the same anti-spam protections as the shoutbox: a short cooldown between posts, a 24-hour wait for brand-new accounts, and no link-posting in your first week. Real users won't notice a thing — but a bot trying to paste the same comment 50 times in 10 seconds (yes, that happened) will get cut off after the first one.

Vault Ghost Items Fixed Subeta Bug Fix

🐛 Bug Fix: No More Phantom Zeroes In Your Vault!
If you recycled items from your vault through the Recycle Beast, a "ghost" 0-quantity entry was being left behind — cluttering up your vault with items you didn't actually have anymore. The Recycle Beast now properly removes vault rows when you empty them, and we cleaned up the accumulated ghost rows on existing vaults. Thanks to everyone who reported it!

Trapped Minions Update Subeta New Feature

🔍 Improvement: First-Feeder Head Start!
The first person to feed a fresh bubble gets a head-start window — they're the only one who can feed that minion for a few minutes (5 for common, 8 for uncommon, 12 for rare or shiny). Keep feeding to hold your claim; if you stop for 3 minutes it releases back to the public pool. You can hold up to 3 claims at once. Huge thanks for the patient feedback in Trapped Minions Rework feedback.

👑 New Feature: Celesse's Daily Food Crate!
Celesse now sells a crate of feed for 500 sP once per day (twice for Gold Accounts) right at the rescue station. Each crate has 8 random low-rarity foods pulled from the community's proven "minions actually eat this" list, weighted toward the foods that tend to get overpriced in player shops. That way feeding the cheaper minions isn't a net loss.

🔍 Improvement: Field Guide Is A Real Guide Now!
The Field Guide works like a personal collection — species you've never fed show up as silhouettes with question marks, species you've fed reveal their names and your personal feed count, and species you've rescued get a highlight. A progress counter at the top shows how many species you've met, fed, and rescued out of the full catalogue. Great for spotting which minions you still need for the Unique Species achievement.

🔍 Improvement: Learning Mode Is Visible Now!
If a species hasn't been fed enough for the community to know its tastes, reactions are random — but you couldn't tell that was happening, so "my minion loved that food last time, now they dislike it" was baffling. A small banner on the minion detail now says whether you're feeding an *unknown* species (reactions will be random until 30 community feeds accumulate) or a *known* one (reactions follow community votes).

🎨 Visual Update: Quieter Rescues.
The "top rescuer" on an active bubble now shows a feed count instead of a username, and other players' wins in "Recently Rescued" appear as "someone" instead of a linked profile. Your own wins are still clearly yours. This was a direct request from Synth and gatorgirl — no more coming away with a list of users to avoid because someone else's name popped up next to a minion you wanted.

👑 New Feature: Rescues Show Up In Your Activity Feed!
When you win a minion from a popped bubble, it logs to the game event feed — so if you find an unfamiliar minion in your inventory, you can trace it back. Thanks Frost.

🔍 Improvement: Visible Feed Cooldown.
After you feed a minion, the food buttons now show a live countdown of the 15-second per-minion cooldown, and the bubble itself gets a little progress bar along the bottom. Angelica asked for this in the thread. You'll also stop accidentally clicking a food item 8 times in a row.

Trapped Minions Update Subeta Improvement

🔍 Improvement: Fairer Rescue System!
Based on your feedback, we've overhauled how minion rescues work to reward consistent feeding over last-second sniping. When a bubble pops, ALL feeders now enter a weighted lottery — the more you fed, the better your chances of winning the rescue! You also need at least 3 feeds on a minion before your feed can trigger a pop. No more swooping in at 99% with a single feed to steal someone's hard work!

🔍 Improvement: Less Snipeable Info!
The rescue station no longer shows exact satisfaction percentages or feed counts. Instead, you'll see the minion's mood stage: Calm, Stirring, Wobbling, or Almost Free! The feed history now only shows YOUR feeds on each minion, and the "last fed by" display has been removed. Top contributor is still shown to celebrate consistent feeders. These changes make it much harder to time a last-second snipe.

🐛 Bug Fix: Rescue Helper Achievement Now Works!
The "Rescue Helper" achievement for contributing feeds to bubbles that someone else pops was broken since launch due to a code ordering bug. It's now fixed and will properly track your contributions!

🐛 Bug Fix: Shiny Hunter Achievement Fixed!
The "Shiny Hunter" achievement was losing progress every time the board refreshed. Your golden bubble pops are now tracked permanently. If your count was wrong, it should be correct going forward.

🔍 Improvement: Anti-Automation Feeding Limits!
Added a 5-second global cooldown between all feeds and a rate limit that kicks in after 30 feeds in 5 minutes. This prevents automated feeding scripts from monopolizing the board. The minions need time to digest!

🎨 Visual Update: Two-Column Rescue Station!
When you click a minion, the detail panel and food grid now appear beside the minion grid instead of below it. No more scrolling up and down! The selected minion gets highlighted in the grid too. Collapses to single column on smaller screens.

Improvement: Pet Adoption Page Rebuilt! Subeta Improvement

The pet adoption page got a big upgrade! Instead of clicking through pages of species, you can now browse all species in a sidebar and click to instantly see the creation form. When you pick a species, you'll also see spotlight pets of that species, all available colors, related items, and their Subetapedia entry, a great way to discover what's out there in the world of Subeta. After adopting, you'll go straight to your new pet's profile page!

New Major Drills! Subeta New Feature

Five new Major Drill tasks for the upgraded games: win at Bones, unscramble items in Item Scramble, use the Coin Machine, win at Rock Paper Scissors, and play Random. More variety in your daily drills!

Fishing Beta Has Ended! Kumos Technical

Thank you to everyone who helped test the new fishing mechanics — your feedback was incredibly helpful! The fishing game is temporarily offline while we work on the next version. Stay tuned!

Trapped Minions Rework! Subeta New Feature

The rescue station in the Galaxan Wastelands has been completely rebuilt! Celesse now runs the operation. She'll greet you, comment on the minions, and celebrate when you pop a bubble. Each trapped minion gets a cute nickname and a visible satisfaction meter that fills as you feed it. No more invisible dice rolls - watch the bubble (the little border - i'm working on this!) wobble, crack, and shake as it gets close to popping! Feed any food you have (no more specific food requirements), but pay attention to reactions ... minions have preferences that the community discovers together over time. After feeding, vote on whether the minion enjoyed it to help build the Field Guide (or lie to throw everyone else off!). Your existing scores and medals are all preserved. Happy rescuing!

Dark Content Area Option! Subeta New Feature

You can now toggle a dark content area on any theme! Head to Dashboard > Themes and check "Dark content area" to flip the main content background to dark while keeping your theme's personality and colors. Great for reducing eye strain, especially on dark themes like Shadowglen, Darkside, and Morostide.

Way More Rare Items in Shops! Subeta Improvement

Rare item restock chances have been significantly increased: rare items now have a 30% chance (was 15%), very rare 12% (was 4%), and r99 4% (was 1%). Each shop reserves 15% of its shelf space specifically for rare+ now, so common items can never crowd them out entirely.

Shop Restocking Fixed! Subeta Bug Fix

Fixed broken shop restocking that was causing shops to feel empty with mostly common items. The price lookup cache and clearing logic have been repaired. Shops now restock every ~3 minutes (was 5), fill to 65% capacity (was 50%), and process 5 shops per cycle (was 3).

Recycle Beast Shuffle! Subeta New Feature

Don't like what the Recycle Beast is asking for? You can now spend recycling points to shuffle ALL the items! Everyone sees when someone shuffles and the cost doubles each time you do it, cooling down over a few days. Chaos encouraged.

This was added while fixing the nightly cron that changes the items, and I just have always wanted the items to change a little bit throughout the day. And now you can add a little bit of chaos 👹

Potion Lottery Shows Per-Potion Stats! Subeta Improvement

See how many tickets have been sold for each potion type, plus which potions you have tickets for. The page also shows who bought tickets for you today.

These improvements were added while also fixing the nightly cron that runs the potion lottery, so it *should* run correctly tonight 🤞

Slots Spinning Forever! Kumos Bug Fix

Fixed a bug where Ricardo's Lucky Slots would get stuck in an infinite spinning animation and never show your result. The reels now properly stop and display your outcome every time, even if there's a network hiccup.

Gift Center Rebuilt! Kumos Improvement

The Gift Center has been completely rebuilt for a much smoother experience. Instead of waiting for the page to reload every time you browse items, search, or change filters, everything now loads instantly. your inventory appears right on the page, with search, sort, type filters, and pagination all working without page refreshes. Adding items to your gift box feels snappy with subtle animations, and you can see a progress bar fill up as you add items. The whole flow — pick items, type a username, write a message, send all happens on one page with no lag.

Kissing Booth "Spread the Love" Exploit Fixed! Kumos Bug Fix

The "Spread the Love" button used to always kiss whoever had the fewest kisses received, which meant someone could leave a booth and rejoin to reset their kiss count to zero, making themselves the permanent target and hogging all the love. Now the button picks someone at random instead, so the love gets spread around fairly. You still get the 1-minute cooldown bonus for using it!

I know this is a late fix, but at least it'll be in place for next year!

Training Center Redesigned! Subeta Visual Update

*(legacy site)* The Training Center has been modernized. Your pets are now sorted into clear sections — Done (collect results!), Currently Training, and Ready to Train, so you can see at a glance what needs your attention. Jim's intro text has been cleaned up, the old Bootstrap grid layout is gone, and everything uses the my new modern design language.

If you've got a Gold Account you'll notice a new option to get all of your pets out of training at once when they're finished.

Zombie Skins No Longer Haunt You After Reset! Kumos Bug Fix

Fixed a bug where using the nuclear reset (or having an admin reset your avatar) would clear the zombie skin from the database, but the old zombie image would keep showing up for a few minutes/hours. The reset wasn't clearing the cached avatar image on disk, so you'd keep seeing zombie-you until the cache naturally expired. Now resets immediately clear the cached image too — when you nuke it, it stays nuked!

Phantom Hair No Longer Appears on Bald Avatars! Kumos Bug Fix

Fixed a bug where removing your hairstyle in the legacy wardrobe would still show your old hair on your avatar everywhere on the site. The avatar renderer was pulling your last-used hairstyle from memory even when you'd taken it off. Now your avatar only shows hair if it's actually equipped in your outfit.

Improvement: Ricardo's Slots Anti-Cheat Upgrade! Kumos Technical

Ricardo now asks you a simple question during his interruptions, and you'll have to answer right ;)! We've also added a 1-second minimum between spins to prevent button-mashing, and if you've been at it for a while, Ricardo will make you take short breaks that get longer the more you spin. Take a breather, you slot fiend!

Kissing Booth Autopilot! Kumos New Feature

You can now set one of your kissing booths to run on autopilot! It'll automatically kiss a random person in the booth every 20 minutes — slower than doing it yourself, but it works even when you're away. Autopilot lasts 12 hours, then you'll need to come back and re-activate it (same booth or a different one). You can enable it from inside any booth you've joined, or from your dance card. Your manual kissing still works alongside it!

Wardrobe Avatar Page Rework Kumos Improvement

Wardrobe Avatar Page Rework

@Syfyri posted an incredibly detailed breakdown of the wardrobe avatar page with mockups and everything (seriously, go read it!). We went through every point and implemented the vast majority of their suggestions. Here's what changed:

New 3-Column Layout
The avatar page now uses three columns on wide screens: your Currently Wearing list on the left, Avatar Preview + Item Preview in the middle, and the Item Browser on the right. Each column scrolls independently, so you can browse hundreds of items without losing sight of your avatar or your current outfit. On smaller screens it gracefully collapses to two columns, then stacks on mobile.

Fixed Item Preview Panel
No more chasing a floating preview around with your mouse! There's now a dedicated preview panel below your avatar that shows your body wearing the hovered item. Hover over anything in your items or your Currently Wearing list and it appears in the preview instantly. If you're browsing items you don't own, the preview panel also shows a Shop Search link and a quick Wishlist button.

Filter Improvements
* Sort By and the My Items / All Items toggle are now always visible — no more digging through Advanced Filters for basic controls
* 11 layer tabs shown by default (Chest, Hair, Hat, Face, Held, Feet, Head, Backdrop, Foreground, Neck)
* Labels now use AND logic — select "wings" + "sparkle" and you'll get items tagged with both, not either
* You can click a selected label again to deselect it
* You can now select multiple colors at once (also AND logic) — find items that are both blue AND gold, for example
* Active filter chips appear below the filters with clear category labels (Color:, Drawer:, Label:, etc.)

All Items / Catalog Browse Fixes
This mode was pretty broken before — it was returning non-wearable items, sorting didn't work, and pagination was busted. All fixed now. It only shows wearable items, all sort options work correctly, and you get proper page numbers with totals. You can also preview unowned items on your avatar now since clothing URLs load properly.

Visual Polish
* Unowned items in Catalog Browse have a softer dimmed look (less aggressive than before)
* Owned items get a subtle green checkmark when browsing All Items so you can tell what you have at a glance
* The CW (Custom Wearable) badge is now a small star icon instead of a text overlay
* The old outfit completeness progress bar is gone — it wasn't particularly useful
* Pagination controls stick to the bottom of the items panel so they're always reachable

Drag & Drop Fix
Dragging items to reorder in your Currently Wearing list now auto-scrolls when you drag near the top or bottom edges. No more struggling to move an item to the top of a long outfit.

Big thanks to @Syfyri for taking the time to write all of this up with mockups — this is exactly the kind of feedback that makes Subeta better. If you run into any issues with the new layout, let me know!

Dark Theme Styling Fixed! Kumos Bug Fix

Fixed a bunch of pages that were showing blinding white backgrounds and unreadable text when using dark themes like Darkside, Shadowglen, and Morostide. The shop autopricer, forum reply checkboxes, quest daily rewards bar, and several other Flux UI components should now properly respect your chosen theme.

Quest Turn-In Speed Boost! Kumos Technical

Quest completions should now feel noticeably faster. We optimized the reward calculations and moved non-essential background work (like cache updates and activity logging) off the main thread so you see your rewards sooner.

Wardrobe Item Browser Filters Now Apply Correctly! Kumos Bug Fix

Fixed a frustrating bug where changing filters (layer, color, labels) in the wardrobe item browser wouldn't actually update the items shown on the current page. Previously, items would get "stuck" on pages - you'd click on "Hat" layer but still see your recently added items from all layers. This was essentially the system caching each page (so if you went to page 2 with filters selected, you'd see that! for any page two going forward)

Now when you change a filter, the items update immediately to match your selection. No more phantom pages showing the wrong items!

January 2026

Wardrobe Organization Page! Kumos New Feature

There's a new "Organization" link in the wardrobe navigation bar! This page lets you:

 • Manage your drawers - Create, rename, and delete your item drawers

 • Toggle Smart Drawers - Show or hide system smart drawers from your wardrobe view (don't need "Hats & Hair"? Just toggle it off!)

 • Create Custom Smart Drawers - Build your own rule-based collections! Filter by layer, color, rarity, custom wearable status, recent additions, name text, or labels. Combine multiple conditions with AND/OR logic, choose your sort order, and optionally limit the results. Create up to 20 custom smart drawers!

!image

Increased Gift Limits! Kumos Improvement

You can now send more items in a single gift! Normal accounts can now send up to 10 items per gift (up from 5), and Gold accounts can send up to 25 items per gift (up from 10). Combined with the new quantity selector, it's easier than ever to send big bundles of items to your friends!

Simplified beta tiles layout Kumos Improvement

The (Kumos) Tiles game has received a significant UI overhaul:

 • Cleaner home page - removed redundant elements and focused on the essentials: play button, collection link, and game modes

 • Streamlined game interface - controls moved to a compact top bar, removed the overwhelming sidebars, and deck info is now collapsible

Quest "Try Again" Now Actually Works! Kumos Bug Fix

Fixed a long-standing bug where clicking "Try Again" after running out of time on a quest would leave you stuck, unable to start any new quests. Some users were stuck for months! If you were affected, you should now be able to quest again. The daily quest reset will also automatically clean up any future stuck quests.

Headshot Editor in Wardrobe! Kumos New Feature

You can now customize which part of your avatar appears in forum posts, news comments, and other places around the site on Kumos! Head to the new "Headshot" tab in your wardrobe to:

 • Drag your avatar to position it within the circular frame

 • Preview with your avatar border - see exactly how it'll look around the site

 • Quick link to change your border - jump straight to the avatar border cosmetics page if you want a different frame

Colors Now Works on Older Browsers! Kumos Bug Fix

Fixed an issue on Kumos where some users on older browsers were seeing an entirely white site with no colors. The site was using modern color technology (OKLCH) that older browsers don't understand, so they just... gave up and showed nothing.

Now the site includes fallback colors that older browsers can read, so you should see proper theming even if you're using an older version of Chrome, Firefox, or Safari. Thanks for the reports!

Major Drills Now Tracks Kumos Actions! Kumos Bug Fix

Fixed a bug where Major Drills quests weren't recognizing progress when you used migrated Kumos features. If you had a "send a gift" task from Major Drills, sending gifts through the new Gift Center wasn't counting toward your quest. Now gift wrapping, vending machines, and giving stickers all properly track progress for your Major Drills tasks. Thanks @hipster for the report!

Theme Colors Feel More Like Home! Kumos Visual Update

Worked on pulling in more legacy-like colors for each Kumos theme - the navigation bar and dropdown menus should now feel more familiar and cohesive with each theme's color palette. I'm still actively working on the Kumos layout and taking feedback all the time, so keep it coming!

The logo is rendering as a kind of weird color on each theme right now, that should be resolved soon.

Events Now Grouped by Category! Kumos Improvement

The Events sidebar widget and Events page now group your notifications by category (like "Auctions", "Quests", "Dance Machine", "Forum Mentions") instead of showing them as one big list. Even better - you can now dismiss an entire category at once with a single click! Each category shows up to 2 events with a count of how many more there are. This makes it much easier to scan your notifications and quickly clear out categories you don't need to see. Forums events are now split into specific categories: Forum Mentions (@mentions), Forum Groups (#hashtags), Forum Subscriptions, and Forum Replies. Training Center and Cash Shop events also now have their own categories. Thanks sweetvalentine for the feedback!

User Info Widget Enhanced! Kumos Improvement

The sidebar User Info widget now shows more of the info you're used to seeing! Your username (with a link to your profile), your active pet's name (with a link to their pet page), your status (click to edit it right from the sidebar!), and any active buffs you have. This brings the Kumos sidebar closer to feature parity with the legacy login widget.

Smarter 'Stable Price' Validation! Kumos Technical

Fixed an issue where stale or wildly inaccurate stable prices could cause quests to request items that are way more expensive than they appear. The system now validates stable prices against current shop listings - if a stable price is too old (30+ days) or doesn't match reality (e.g., shows 59k when items are actually selling for 999k), it will use the actual lowest shop price instead.

This prevents quests from asking for unreasonably expensive items and gives you more accurate price information everywhere stable prices are shown.

What is the "stable price"? It's what we use to make determinations around the site that use our years of purchase information, auctions, etc to come up with for each item. This is usually close to what they are in user shops, unless they get bought up or something funky is going on.

Collapsible Sidebar Widgets! Kumos New Feature

You can now click on any widget header in the sidebar to collapse it, just like on legacy! Your collapsed/expanded preferences are saved locally and will persist across sessions. This is super helpful when you have lots of widgets but only need a few visible at a time - collapse your Quests widget after you've finished for the day, or minimize widgets you only check occasionally. The collapse state is remembered per-widget, so you can customize exactly how you want your sidebar to look!
