🔍 Improvement: you can now play Dark Matter Dice every 30 minutes instead of every 6 hours.
🔍 Improvement: finishing a game pays more sP, scaled to how well you score.

Changelog
These are pulled ✨ automatically ✨ from the code, with some slight tweaks. Updated regularly, with a lot of updates for a 20+ year old site!
June 2026
🔍 Improvement: buying food and drinks no longer reloads the shop every time.
Each purchase used to send you to a confirmation page, then reload the whole shop and its tab when you came back, so stocking up for the Masquerade NPCs meant sitting through that on every item. The Buy button now works in place: your trinket balance updates, a quick note confirms what you bought, and you stay right where you are.
🔧 Technical: the two shops load quicker.
They were re-running their full item list on every page and tab load. That's cached now, so the shops and their tabs come up faster.
Toys your pet has already played no longer sit in the way as grayed-out cards you can't pick, so the list is shorter and goes straight to what's left. The Toys Played tab still lists everything your pet has played.
- Search for a toy and it tells you which of your pets has already played with it, so you are not buying one a pet has.
- Seeds in the garden show up in a search too, along with how many you are holding.
The cheapest shops still come first; only the tie between equal prices gets shuffled, so an old shop no longer holds a permanent spot at the top of the list. When more shops share a price than the list can show, which ones make the cut is now random too, so newer shops finally get seen.
🔍 Improvement: a well-visited garden can now grow its plants up to 50% faster in a day.
Every visitor shaves a little off your plants' remaining grow time, and the daily limit on that help is much higher than it used to be, so opening your garden and drawing visitors really helps your plants grow.
🔍 Improvement: the visit boost now builds up over the day instead of landing all at once.
A rush of visitors first thing used to spend the whole day's boost in one moment, so now it unlocks gradually through the day and a steady stream of visitors adds up to the most growth.
🔍 Improvement: frozen accounts no longer show up on the leaderboards.
The Pet Stat Leaderboards, About page stats and the Battle High Scores all skip accounts that have been frozen, so the rankings fill back up with players who are still around. Thanks to the folks who pointed out how many frozen accounts were sitting at the top.
🔍 Improvement: the Item Directory counts only active players.
How many of an item sit in inventories, in vaults, and on wishlists now leaves out frozen accounts, so the totals show what's actually in circulation instead of being padded by frozen vaults.
The hover heart for wishlisting items is smaller and now sits in the lower-left corner. It covers less of the item art, and it waits a beat before appearing so it stops flashing on every item your cursor passes over.
It's still keyboard accessible!
The hover to wishlist functionality has been updated to be more accessible and navigable by keyboard. It now is a little ❤️ that pops up when you hover - let me know if you don't like it!
Open a transformable item in the directory and you'll see the other versions it can become, each linking to its own page.
You can check it out on the new [[Subeta Sweeties Barber Shop Playset]] for example!
Billboards run all over the site now instead of just the forums, so they reach far more players and the impressions you buy get spent quicker. Every purchase tier now grants ten times as many impressions for the same Cash Shop Credits, so a single buy keeps your banner running much longer.
May 2026
🔍 Improvement: Average pricing follows the stock now.
On the autopricer's Average setting, each shop counts by how many copies it's holding instead of one vote apiece — so a single shop sitting on one wildly-priced copy no longer drags your average around, and the price tracks where the volume actually is.
🔍 Improvement: The autopricer holds back suspicious underprices.
When a price would land far below an item's real market value — the kind of trap where someone lists a copy for next to nothing to catch autopricers — we now leave that item unchecked with a warning instead of quietly pricing it down to a fraction of its worth. Switch any held item back on if you meant to sell low.
🔍 Improvement: Spot your biggest price drops at a glance.
The preview now shows the percentage change beside each new price, and you can sort by "Biggest drop" to put the scariest changes right at the top — no more scrolling a 700-item list hunting for the one that tanked.
🔍 Improvement: Ricardo lets you spin in peace.
Ricardo used to jump in front of the machine now and then with a little quiz you had to answer before spinning again. He's put the chalkboard away — the reels play straight through now. With the quiz gone, the "Ricardo's Best Friend" achievement you earned through it is retired; if you already earned it, it's yours to keep. This was an anti-bot measure, but now we've got other tricks 🤖
🔍 Improvement: Fewer breathers, and shorter ones.
Ricardo's "take a breather" cooldown now holds off much longer before it kicks in, and when it does the pause is shorter than it used to be.
🔍 Improvement: Each achievement is now open for one prize type.
Before, every achievement we added to the studio was open for *all three* — title, avatar border, and reaction image. Most achievements really only want one of those, and seeing three open slots on each row felt like make-work. Staff now picks the prize type when they open an achievement (title, border, or reaction), and the studio shows that one slot. Inspired by Syfyri's writeup in thread 944064, and one I'd been wanting to fix myself.
🔍 Improvement: Forum title submissions support before-username, after-username, or both.
The title submission form was a single text box that didn't let you say whether your title goes before, after, or wraps around the username. Now there are two boxes with Username sitting between them — fill in whichever side you mean (or both, for wrap titles like *"If ever a whiz there was Username is a whiz because"*). A live preview shows you exactly how it'll read with your own username plugged in.
🐛 Bug Fix: Submission authors and achievements are linked everywhere now.
The studio was showing usernames as plain text and achievement names without links. Authors now use the standard linked user widget (with hover card) and every achievement name links to its detail page. Suggested by Syfyri.
🐛 Bug Fix: Reaction image guidance now says 64×64.
The reaction image upload field was suggesting 200×200, but reactions across the site display at 64×64 — so anything bigger was getting downscaled into mush. The hint also now mentions transparent backgrounds, which is the same requirement that already applied to borders.
🐛 Bug Fix: Uncommon items are back on the shelves.
Items in the uncommon rarity range (rarity 41–60) had quietly stopped showing up in NPC shops — Cinnamon Cream Coffee Cake, Cherry Candy Rocks, Mallarchy Care, and many others hadn't restocked in well over a month. The restocking system was processing rare tiers first (good), then commons (also good), but the way the budgets were set up meant common items always ate the leftover capacity before the uncommon pass ever ran. Each rarity tier now gets its own guaranteed slice of every shop's shelf space, so uncommons can't be crowded out. Common items still take whatever's left over, but they can't gobble up the whole shop anymore. Thanks to the players who flagged this.
🔍 Improvement: No more permanently-skipped items.
Inside each rarity tier, the items that have gone the longest without being restocked now get picked first, instead of being chosen at random. Newly-added items (those that have never been restocked) jump to the front of the line. The end result: every item in a shop's catalog cycles through reliably rather than depending on luck, so nothing should ever drop off the shelves and be forgotten again.
🎨 Visual Update: Hover background colors now match the real pet palettes.
Almost every pet-color hover background has been retuned to use the actual hues from its namesake pet — Galactic is now navy with starlight instead of bright magenta, Nightmare is monochrome grey instead of purple, Arid is the real pink/grey palette instead of yet-another-tan, Spectrum is the soft prismatic gradient from the spectrum pet instead of a harsh saturated rainbow, and Darkmatter gets back its signature magenta highlight. Massive thanks to [user=Syfyri] for sampling palettes directly from the pet art and posting a side-by-side breakdown in the forums.
🔍 Improvement: "Sync from achievements" button retroactively unlocks backgrounds.
If you've ever owned a colored pet — even years ago, even before this feature shipped click "Sync from achievements". The site checks your pet-color achievement history (the "Have a Sweetheart Pet" / "Have a Galactic Pet" / etc. lineup) and unlocks every matching background. The sync also runs silently every time you load the cosmetics page, so most players will arrive to a freshly stocked grid without having to push the button at all.
April 2026
🔍 Improvement: Way More Saved Outfit Slots.
The cap on saved outfits in the wardrobe just got 5× bigger — Gold accounts go from 500 → 2,500 saved outfits, and free accounts from 250 → 1,250. After the legacy → new wardrobe migration a lot of you ended up bumping right up against the old ceiling and couldn't save the HAs you were actively working on without first culling old ones. Take your time pruning at your own pace; the slots are there.
🎨 Visual Update: Outfit Slot Counter.
The Saved Outfits page now shows how many slots you're using at a glance — a live "X / Y outfits saved" line with a progress bar under the page title, plus a little Gold tag if you have a Gold account. The bar quietly turns amber when you're past 90% and red at 100% so you can see the cap creeping up well before you hit it.
🐛 Bug Fix: Ye Can Finally See Where the Beasties Were Hiding!
When a hunt failed, the result card was a big dimmed modal smack in the middle of the chart — exactly where the revealed leviathan ghosts were drawn. So the moment you most wanted to study the map was the moment the map got covered up, sorry! Players were sharing custom CSS to fix it so I just made it official. After a loss, the result card now tucks itself into the top-left corner (or slides up as a bottom sheet on mobile) with the dim scrim cleared away, so you can read the chart, see what you missed, and decide whether to charge back in.
🔍 Improvement: A Polish Pass on the Whole Hunt.
Tightened the chapter display so the chapter name reads with a touch more authority, bumped the ghost-ship reveal opacity so missed leviathans actually look like missed leviathans (especially on the dark themes — Shadowglen, Darkside, Morostide), and made sure every animation steps aside for prefers-reduced-motion (for users who get motion sick) — including the sonar pulse, the count bubble, and Angrybeard's toast. Also rebuilt the "previous expedition" callout on the entry panel as a labelled note instead of a colored stripe.
🔍 Improvement: Fairer Rescue System!
Based on your feedback, we've overhauled how minion rescues work to reward consistent feeding over last-second sniping. When a bubble pops, ALL feeders now enter a weighted lottery — the more you fed, the better your chances of winning the rescue! You also need at least 3 feeds on a minion before your feed can trigger a pop. No more swooping in at 99% with a single feed to steal someone's hard work!
🔍 Improvement: Less Snipeable Info!
The rescue station no longer shows exact satisfaction percentages or feed counts. Instead, you'll see the minion's mood stage: Calm, Stirring, Wobbling, or Almost Free! The feed history now only shows YOUR feeds on each minion, and the "last fed by" display has been removed. Top contributor is still shown to celebrate consistent feeders. These changes make it much harder to time a last-second snipe.
🐛 Bug Fix: Rescue Helper Achievement Now Works!
The "Rescue Helper" achievement for contributing feeds to bubbles that someone else pops was broken since launch due to a code ordering bug. It's now fixed and will properly track your contributions!
🐛 Bug Fix: Shiny Hunter Achievement Fixed!
The "Shiny Hunter" achievement was losing progress every time the board refreshed. Your golden bubble pops are now tracked permanently. If your count was wrong, it should be correct going forward.
🔍 Improvement: Anti-Automation Feeding Limits!
Added a 5-second global cooldown between all feeds and a rate limit that kicks in after 30 feeds in 5 minutes. This prevents automated feeding scripts from monopolizing the board. The minions need time to digest!
🎨 Visual Update: Two-Column Rescue Station!
When you click a minion, the detail panel and food grid now appear beside the minion grid instead of below it. No more scrolling up and down! The selected minion gets highlighted in the grid too. Collapses to single column on smaller screens.
March 2026
The pet adoption page got a big upgrade! Instead of clicking through pages of species, you can now browse all species in a sidebar and click to instantly see the creation form. When you pick a species, you'll also see spotlight pets of that species, all available colors, related items, and their Subetapedia entry, a great way to discover what's out there in the world of Subeta. After adopting, you'll go straight to your new pet's profile page!
Rare item restock chances have been significantly increased: rare items now have a 30% chance (was 15%), very rare 12% (was 4%), and r99 4% (was 1%). Each shop reserves 15% of its shelf space specifically for rare+ now, so common items can never crowd them out entirely.
Kumos shops, quest bar, and shop search now pull from the same inventory as the legacy site. No more seeing different items depending on which version of the site you're on, there is one stock for everyone.
See how many tickets have been sold for each potion type, plus which potions you have tickets for. The page also shows who bought tickets for you today.
These improvements were added while also fixing the nightly cron that runs the potion lottery, so it *should* run correctly tonight 🤞
The Gift Center has been completely rebuilt for a much smoother experience. Instead of waiting for the page to reload every time you browse items, search, or change filters, everything now loads instantly. your inventory appears right on the page, with search, sort, type filters, and pagination all working without page refreshes. Adding items to your gift box feels snappy with subtle animations, and you can see a progress bar fill up as you add items. The whole flow — pick items, type a username, write a message, send all happens on one page with no lag.
February 2026
Wardrobe Avatar Page Rework
@Syfyri posted an incredibly detailed breakdown of the wardrobe avatar page with mockups and everything (seriously, go read it!). We went through every point and implemented the vast majority of their suggestions. Here's what changed:
New 3-Column Layout
The avatar page now uses three columns on wide screens: your Currently Wearing list on the left, Avatar Preview + Item Preview in the middle, and the Item Browser on the right. Each column scrolls independently, so you can browse hundreds of items without losing sight of your avatar or your current outfit. On smaller screens it gracefully collapses to two columns, then stacks on mobile.
Fixed Item Preview Panel
No more chasing a floating preview around with your mouse! There's now a dedicated preview panel below your avatar that shows your body wearing the hovered item. Hover over anything in your items or your Currently Wearing list and it appears in the preview instantly. If you're browsing items you don't own, the preview panel also shows a Shop Search link and a quick Wishlist button.
Filter Improvements
* Sort By and the My Items / All Items toggle are now always visible — no more digging through Advanced Filters for basic controls
* 11 layer tabs shown by default (Chest, Hair, Hat, Face, Held, Feet, Head, Backdrop, Foreground, Neck)
* Labels now use AND logic — select "wings" + "sparkle" and you'll get items tagged with both, not either
* You can click a selected label again to deselect it
* You can now select multiple colors at once (also AND logic) — find items that are both blue AND gold, for example
* Active filter chips appear below the filters with clear category labels (Color:, Drawer:, Label:, etc.)
All Items / Catalog Browse Fixes
This mode was pretty broken before — it was returning non-wearable items, sorting didn't work, and pagination was busted. All fixed now. It only shows wearable items, all sort options work correctly, and you get proper page numbers with totals. You can also preview unowned items on your avatar now since clothing URLs load properly.
Visual Polish
* Unowned items in Catalog Browse have a softer dimmed look (less aggressive than before)
* Owned items get a subtle green checkmark when browsing All Items so you can tell what you have at a glance
* The CW (Custom Wearable) badge is now a small star icon instead of a text overlay
* The old outfit completeness progress bar is gone — it wasn't particularly useful
* Pagination controls stick to the bottom of the items panel so they're always reachable
Drag & Drop Fix
Dragging items to reorder in your Currently Wearing list now auto-scrolls when you drag near the top or bottom edges. No more struggling to move an item to the top of a long outfit.
Big thanks to @Syfyri for taking the time to write all of this up with mockups — this is exactly the kind of feedback that makes Subeta better. If you run into any issues with the new layout, let me know!
Your active hexes (viruses, replacement limbs, etc.) now appear in the wardrobe's "Currently Wearing" list under an "Active Effects" section. You can see what stage they're at and whether they're frozen (what does that mean 👀 👀 👀)
January 2026
You can now send more items in a single gift! Normal accounts can now send up to 10 items per gift (up from 5), and Gold accounts can send up to 25 items per gift (up from 10). Combined with the new quantity selector, it's easier than ever to send big bundles of items to your friends!
The (Kumos) Tiles game has received a significant UI overhaul:
- Cleaner home page - removed redundant elements and focused on the essentials: play button, collection link, and game modes
- Streamlined game interface - controls moved to a compact top bar, removed the overwhelming sidebars, and deck info is now collapsible
The Events sidebar widget and Events page now group your notifications by category (like "Auctions", "Quests", "Dance Machine", "Forum Mentions") instead of showing them as one big list. Even better - you can now dismiss an entire category at once with a single click! Each category shows up to 2 events with a count of how many more there are. This makes it much easier to scan your notifications and quickly clear out categories you don't need to see. Forums events are now split into specific categories: Forum Mentions (@mentions), Forum Groups (#hashtags), Forum Subscriptions, and Forum Replies. Training Center and Cash Shop events also now have their own categories. Thanks sweetvalentine for the feedback!
The sidebar User Info widget now shows more of the info you're used to seeing! Your username (with a link to your profile), your active pet's name (with a link to their pet page), your status (click to edit it right from the sidebar!), and any active buffs you have. This brings the Kumos sidebar closer to feature parity with the legacy login widget.
Pet images on the Kumos Pets page now display at their full size instead of being shrunk down, matching the legacy page. Much easier to admire your beautiful pets!
Also fixed a bug where the minions were showing up blank.
We've been having a day full of errors on Kumos + legacy. I've just turned off the process that ran away hours ago, and am working to get the database load to equal out.
You should start seeing less errors and lag, and hopefully it'll level out over the next 30 minutes or so!
Fixed some important mobile issues based on feedback:
- Pinch-to-zoom now works! You can now use two-finger pinch gestures to zoom in and out on the site
- Sidebar now scrolls! If you have lots of widgets in your sidebar, you can now scroll through them instead of them being cut off at the bottom
- Better touch targets: Buttons and links are now at least 44px in size for easier tapping.
- Higher visibility sidebar button: The sidebar toggle button is now larger, higher in the layer stack, and respects iPhone safe areas (so it can't hide behind the top bar)
Long forum signatures are now contained in a scrollable area (max 200px tall) instead of taking over the whole post. If someone has a signature that's taller than that, you can scroll within it to see the rest. Excessively tall signatures (over 600px) won't render at all!
This is a solution to the (imo very silly!) rule of warning people who have signatures a little too large. It removes. a common sense of frustration that folks feel with the forums and just getting started, and gives way more space overall.
I'll be adding a space to "edit signature" in the Kumos forums soon!
The "All Activity" section on the forums page is now smaller and easier to scan. I've also filtered out Forum Games threads from the activity feed since the rapid-fire posts there were drowning out discussion from other forums. You can still visit Forum Games directly to see all the fun - it just won't fill up the main activity stream anymore!
I'm also considering how to turn those games into something a little more interactive, but I've had that thought before..
December 2025
Improved the quest item selection so quest givers are much better at picking different items each time you do a quest. You should see much more variety when doing multiple quests with the same NPC in a single day!
Quests are now more resilient when their item pools are limited. Instead of failing completely when items are scarce, quests will:
- Gradually widen price and rarity ranges to find available items
- Request fewer items if needed (but at least 1 per pool)
- Only go to sleep when absolutely no items can be found
This means quests like the Librarian's Reading List will stay available even when their curated item pools are running low, while still respecting the thematic item selections.
The pages that you probably miss from the legacy forums, including staff posts and the ability to see your own posts/topics has returned!
Also, a small playground to see how sCode + markdown work together on Kumos.
Based on your feedback, we've made several improvements to how Mysterious Melody works:
- No More Getting Your Own Items Back: You'll no longer receive the same type of item you contributed, even if someone else put in the same thing. If you contributed a Subeautique Invitation, you won't get one back!
- More Variety from Melody: Melody now avoids buying duplicate item types within the same pool and won't repurchase the same items across multiple pools within 24 hours. This means more diverse gifts for everyone!
- Better Wishlist Recommendations: The wishlist peek now shows a badge when an item has already been contributed to the pool, so you can choose something different and maximize everyone's chances of getting something unique.
- Rebalanced Item Selection: Melody's purchasing strategy now includes more random finds and advent calendar items alongside wishlist items, making the gift exchange more exciting and unpredictable.
[item=Red Snow Fairy]
Quest completions during the Luminaire holiday now guarantee you'll receive a random fairy item (items 131549-131555). Get those fairy achievements faster!
