🐛 Bug Fix: Anthony and Abigail barely showed up to dance, so their achievements were stuck.
The five Gossips step in to keep quiet dance rooms moving, but they were seated in a fixed order that usually ran out before it reached Anthony and Abigail. The two of them only turned up reliably in the Grand Ballroom, which not everyone could get onto, so most people could never get paired with them. They now spread evenly across all the dance rooms, so you can dance with each Gossip and finish the set.
The Grand Ballroom also has a higher limit, and rotates folks out faster. I'm going to increase the pace of dances in the Grand Ballroom too, to make sure everyone at least gets a few before being rotated out.

Changelog
These are pulled ✨ automatically ✨ from the code, with some slight tweaks. Updated regularly, with a lot of updates for a 20+ year old site!
June 2026
After you harvested a plot and planted something new, the alert stopped resetting, so it went quiet even with the setting on. That is fixed, and every plant already growing in your garden was reset, so you get your alerts back without replanting anything.
It had stopped loading. Click "Click to show" on a trained pet to see where it places among every trained pet, ranked by its health, strength, defence, and speed (the same stats behind its Tier), along with the percentile it lands in. A pet that hasn't trained much yet shows a note instead of a rank, since the bottom of the list is almost all brand new pets.
🐛 Bug Fix: billboards no longer appear on pet profiles or user profiles.
Profiles are yours to build and decorate, so someone else's ad doesn't get injected into them anymore, whether you run a Gold Account or not.
If you clicked while a page was still loading (restocking, questing, picking a new active pet), images finishing their load could shift the whole page right under your cursor, so the click landed where the button used to be. Pet pages, quest pages, Battle Quests, and item images across the site now hold their space while they load, so buttons stay put.
Pinging a group by its # tag was writing the alert but never sending it, so members never saw the ping; group pings now arrive as a notification for every member.
Growing a plant for Emma takes more than a day, and the quest was quietly expiring overnight before you could hand it in, so harvesting your plant never paid out the sP or the seed packet; deliver her the plant you grew and the quest finishes and rewards you the way it should.
The blue border around items on your wishlist was almost invisible on dark themes with dark content mode enabled, and the +/- Wishlist label was hard to read; both are clear now!
The [outfit=...] code was showing a broken image and, for outfits made in the old wardrobe, "No outfit found." Now the picture loads, and old-wardrobe outfits show up too.
If your shop held the cheapest price on an item, the autopricer tried to raise it to the next seller's price instead of leaving it alone — so being the lowest seller worked against you. Now the Lowest strategy never raises an already-competitive price: if you're at or below the cheapest other shop, your price stays put, and the nightly Auto Auto Pricer leaves it alone too.
May 2026
Hovering a location on the explore maps lights it up like it used to — the highlight had quietly stopped working a while back.
If your auction's timer hit zero, the page would say it was over but nothing would move: no CSC or sP in your bank, no item in the winner's inventory. Auctions that ended in the last few hours will settle on the next couple of ticks.
🐛 Bug Fix: Shiny Hunter and the other Trapped Minions achievements now track correctly.
If your feed pushed a bubble over the satisfaction threshold but the lottery sent the minion home with someone else, your Bubble Popper, Rescue Helper, Species Collector, and especially Shiny Hunter achievements weren't ticking up — even though the bubble was credited to your stats. The progress sync only ran when the specific user roles for a given pop lined up, so plenty of legitimate pops slipped through unrecorded. Every feed now resyncs all four achievements from your real stats, so they catch up automatically.
🐛 Bug Fix: The Trapped Minions achievements panel now shows real progress.
The progress bars on the achievements tab were reading from the wrong achievement table — so even users with maxed-out tiers saw "0 / 1 shiny bubble popped" and no "Complete!" badge. The panel now reads from the same place the writes land, so your real numbers and earned tiers show up immediately.
🐛 Bug Fix: Merana the Sea Witch is appearing on the explore map again.
For the past couple of months Merana had stopped showing up entirely — multiple users on the forums (FENNEC, Hypnos, rawnie) reported waiting weeks or months without a single sighting, which also meant no hydrus pets could be made in that window. The page that scheduled her appearances was a manual admin tool that nobody had been running; the spawn is now a daily worker job, so she'll keep wandering through every few days on her own. If you've been waiting on a hydrus, watch the map.
Beta wardrobe wouldn't save outfits-in-progress — the "Save Outfit" button under the avatar preview did nothing at all, and "Save Current Outfit" on the Outfits tab quietly saved whatever you were wearing onsite instead of the look you'd just put together. Both buttons now save the in-progress outfit, so you can put together a look using items you don't own yet, save it for later, and come back to keep tweaking — just like the classic wardrobe. "Save Outfit" on the Avatar tab pops a quick name + privacy modal right there; no more dead clicks. The "save what I'm wearing before switching outfits" prompt (when you click Wear on a different saved outfit) still saves the live avatar, since that's the whole point of that prompt.
April 2026
🐛 Bug Fix: "Sonar reads 0 leviathans" no longer lies.
The "Sonar reads 0 leviathans in that area" notice was popping up after every harpoon throw and every new game — even when you hadn't pinged anything.
👑 New Feature: Sonar Markers Stay On The Chart.
asked if the sonar reading could stay visible on the board — on the bigger boards (Kraken's Maw and beyond) you have to zoom out to see the whole grid, and the brief flash was easy to miss. Each ping now leaves a soft parchment outline over the 3×3 area you scanned with a count badge in the corner, and they stick around for the rest of the hunt and survive a refresh, so you can plan your next throw against everything you've already scouted.
🐛 Bug Fix: Spam Comments Hidden!
A few brand-new throwaway accounts had been spamming the comments on a couple of older Weekend Quests posts — same paragraph pasted dozens of times in a row. The accounts have been frozen, and all 179 of their visible comments are now hidden so you don't have to scroll past them anymore.
🔧 Technical: Public Comments Are Rate-Limited Now.
News and changelog comments now have the same anti-spam protections as the shoutbox: a short cooldown between posts, a 24-hour wait for brand-new accounts, and no link-posting in your first week. Real users won't notice a thing — but a bot trying to paste the same comment 50 times in 10 seconds (yes, that happened) will get cut off after the first one.
🐛 Bug Fix: No More Phantom Zeroes In Your Vault!
If you recycled items from your vault through the Recycle Beast, a "ghost" 0-quantity entry was being left behind — cluttering up your vault with items you didn't actually have anymore. The Recycle Beast now properly removes vault rows when you empty them, and we cleaned up the accumulated ghost rows on existing vaults. Thanks to everyone who reported it!
March 2026
Fixed broken shop restocking that was causing shops to feel empty with mostly common items. The price lookup cache and clearing logic have been repaired. Shops now restock every ~3 minutes (was 5), fill to 65% capacity (was 50%), and process 5 shops per cycle (was 3).
Fixed a bug where Ricardo's Lucky Slots would get stuck in an infinite spinning animation and never show your result. The reels now properly stop and display your outcome every time, even if there's a network hiccup.
The "Spread the Love" button used to always kiss whoever had the fewest kisses received, which meant someone could leave a booth and rejoin to reset their kiss count to zero, making themselves the permanent target and hogging all the love. Now the button picks someone at random instead, so the love gets spread around fairly. You still get the 1-minute cooldown bonus for using it!
I know this is a late fix, but at least it'll be in place for next year!
Fixed a bug where using the nuclear reset (or having an admin reset your avatar) would clear the zombie skin from the database, but the old zombie image would keep showing up for a few minutes/hours. The reset wasn't clearing the cached avatar image on disk, so you'd keep seeing zombie-you until the cache naturally expired. Now resets immediately clear the cached image too — when you nuke it, it stays nuked!
Fixed a bug where removing your hairstyle in the legacy wardrobe would still show your old hair on your avatar everywhere on the site. The avatar renderer was pulling your last-used hairstyle from memory even when you'd taken it off. Now your avatar only shows hair if it's actually equipped in your outfit.
February 2026
Kumos is back up. It brought itself down overnight, because the scheduled downtime the other night didn't finish. I'm very sorry for the overnight downtime!
I've added the ability to choose any Virus, at any stage, once for the event.
Fixed a bunch of pages that were showing blinding white backgrounds and unreadable text when using dark themes like Darkside, Shadowglen, and Morostide. The shop autopricer, forum reply checkboxes, quest daily rewards bar, and several other Flux UI components should now properly respect your chosen theme.
Fixed a frustrating bug where changing filters (layer, color, labels) in the wardrobe item browser wouldn't actually update the items shown on the current page. Previously, items would get "stuck" on pages - you'd click on "Hat" layer but still see your recently added items from all layers. This was essentially the system caching each page (so if you went to page 2 with filters selected, you'd see that! for any page two going forward)
Now when you change a filter, the items update immediately to match your selection. No more phantom pages showing the wrong items!
January 2026
Fixed a bug where the tile collection page was showing debug data (always showing Ruffie species and marking certain tiles as collected when they weren't). Your collection now displays correctly!
Fixed a long-standing bug where clicking "Try Again" after running out of time on a quest would leave you stuck, unable to start any new quests. Some users were stuck for months! If you were affected, you should now be able to quest again. The daily quest reset will also automatically clean up any future stuck quests.
Fixed an issue on Kumos where some users on older browsers were seeing an entirely white site with no colors. The site was using modern color technology (OKLCH) that older browsers don't understand, so they just... gave up and showed nothing.
Now the site includes fallback colors that older browsers can read, so you should see proper theming even if you're using an older version of Chrome, Firefox, or Safari. Thanks for the reports!
Fixed a bug where Major Drills quests weren't recognizing progress when you used migrated Kumos features. If you had a "send a gift" task from Major Drills, sending gifts through the new Gift Center wasn't counting toward your quest. Now gift wrapping, vending machines, and giving stickers all properly track progress for your Major Drills tasks. Thanks @hipster for the report!
Fixed a bug where shops found on Explore pages (like Carnival Stand, Half Baked, Rathskeller Inn, Beach Shack, Icy Goods, and others) weren't being restocked by the shop system. They'll now be included in regular restocking cycles alongside the main "shopping district" shops.
When using your discount card effect in Kumos shops, your lifetime savings are now tracked in both the new Effects system AND the legacy counter (shown in your Discount Card stats). This ensures the "Total sP Saved" stat stays accurate no matter which shop system you use.
Your discount card effects from the Effects page now work in both the new Kumos shops AND the legacy main shops. Previously, only the old inventory-based discount cards worked in legacy shops - now the Effects system is properly connected. If you have a discount card sitting in your inventory, you'll see an alert in the shops encouraging you to activate it as an Effect for a better experience.
Fixed a bug where the Quest Bar was showing items as "available in NPC shop" even when they were sold out. Now you'll only see the shop link if the item is actually in stock.
Fixed a bug where trying to auction Custom Wearables (rarity 200 items) for Cash Shop Credits would fail with a "Only items worth 100,000+ points can be auctioned" error. Since custom wearables are unique items without great market price information, this check now correctly skips for CSC auctions.
Fixed several issues with the mobile kumos layout. The sidebar (with your widgets and events) now has a toggle button in the bottom-left corner to open it, and an X button to close it.
The navigation menu button is now properly positioned in the top-right corner of the screen. The sidebar also no longer hides behind the header - it starts below the navigation so you can see and use everything! I'm looking for feedback specifically on the color of the sidebar, I assume this isn't great across themes right now.
Fixed a bug where users couldn't open Christmas presents from previous years (like 2025) and were getting "Presents cannot be opened yet!" error. Now you can always open presents from any previous year - only the current year's presents are locked until December 25th during the holiday season!
December 2025
Fixed a rare but serious bug where users could end up on multiple quests simultaneously. This was causing quest tracking inconsistencies where users would have one quest showing normally and another "ghost" quest that couldn't be completed or cancelled properly:
- Users should now only ever have one active quest at a time, ensuring quest tracking works reliably!
Melody ran out of sP to purchase gifts late on the 27th, and her bank hadn't been restored until now. She's received a fresh deposit from the Bank of Subeta and is back to purchasing gifts!
Why does Melody have a spending limit?
I give Melody a set amount at the start of each season as a safety measure. If every active user joined a Melody pool simultaneously, she could theoretically spend billions in a single day — and I want to make sure we're aware if that ever needs to happen. The team now gets a Slack alert when she's running low, so we can check whether it's normal activity or something that needs attention.
Fixed a critical bug where email verification links sent to new users were failing with an "Access Denied" error. The verification links were being generated correctly, but a mismatch in how they were validated was causing them to be rejected. If you registered in the past few weeks and couldn't verify your email, please request a new verification link from the login page - it will work now!
- 🎁 Apology Gift for Affected New Users! To all users who registered in the past three weeks and experienced this frustrating verification issue: we're truly sorry! As an apology, we've added 1,000 Cash Shop Credits to your account. Thank you for your patience while we sorted this out. Welcome to Subeta!
Fixed a bug where achievements like "Melody Regular 2025" and "Lumineve Regular 2025" weren't being awarded even when you hit the required number of visits. The progress was tracking correctly, but the actual achievement tier wasn't being granted. If you've been visiting Melody faithfully and were missing your achievement, just visit again tomorrow and it should pop!
Fixed a bug where trying to give items from your shop or gallery to other users' wishlists would fail with a database error. The system was looking for the wrong table name and not properly verifying ownership. Now you can safely give gifts from your inventory, shop, or gallery!
Fixed a bug where Saggitarius was repeatedly asking for the same few items (like Funnel Cake and Red Candy Cane) that weren't even supposed to be in his quest pool. The quest system was incorrectly selecting hoarded items from the economy without checking if they were actually in the quest's allowed item locations. Now quest givers will only request items from their designated item pools.
This happened to Saggitarius in particular due to an upgrade to the system I did yesterday, targeting his quests.
Sorry about that - all users who should have a gold account (from a subscription, item, or buddy GA) should have their access restored.
This was a runaway script that is supposed to verify that people have the correct access on the site :(
As a reminder, the fishing game is in beta on Kumos!
Fixed several issues with the fishing game system:
- Equipment purchased from the fishing shop now properly validates ownership before game creation
- Improved rare item distribution - quest storage prizes are now restricted to advanced+ difficulties only (was affecting all difficulties)
- Enhanced error handling for prize awarding with better logging to help diagnose delivery failures
- Added clearer UI hints to remind players to activate their equipment during gameplay
- Reduced quest storage prize chance from 30% to 15% to better balance rewards
You'll no longer see "The Hustler has something new" banners when there are actually no items available for purchase. The notification system now automatically deactivates when stock reaches zero.
Vending machines were occasionally crashing with "Attempt to read property 'id' on null" errors when the machine's currency, location, or limit settings weren't properly configured. Now the machines properly handle these configuration issues with helpful error messages instead of crashing.
Fixed an SQL ambiguous column error that was preventing the complete stock pages from loading properly. The error occurred when sorting shop items because both the item and shop_stocked_items tables have a 'price' column.
Resolved a frequent error that was preventing the item availability cache from updating properly after completing quests. This was causing stale data in the quest selection system, which could potentially show items as available when they weren't. The cache now updates correctly every time you complete a quest.
When you place a gift under someone's tree, the present pile beneath their tree will now actually update to reflect the new gifts. Previously the image was getting cached and wouldn't show the updated gift count until much later.
The trees on the gallery page, and in the builder, always reflect the correct number of presents becasue they're built ✨ on the fly 🎄.
