People who are complaining: How could you complain?! The admin of this site could have easily done nothing for us when the site came back up. Enjoy the free items and save them, they will go back up in price.
People complaining about deflation: wait a while after it's over. Retired items (plus the event-only plushie) will be unavailable again and prices will rise back up. They might not (and probably won't) reach the level they were at before the giveaway for a long time (if ever), but they'll still be worth it, eventually. So take the free items, now, and quit complaining.
