Daily Support Goal!
Hi there! We wanted to take a few minutes to explain the Daily Support Goal progress bar that we’ve added to the News Page today. We gotten a lot of user feedback recently, and one thing people have asked for consistently is more transparency from us in terms of what we need to keep Subeta growing.
Subeta is about 95% user-supported (the other 5% comes from advertising), which means that by supporting us through purchases Cash Shop Credits and Cash Shop items, you are directly contributing to Subeta’s longevity and success. Since you’re so important, we wanted to give you a small way to check in with us each day to see how we’re doing towards our goals. Following the lead of Reddit, one of the largest websites on the planet, we’ve add a Daily Support Goal progress bar that shows you just how close (or far) we are to where we need to be each day to maintain Subeta and continue to grow. The site operates on a daily budget, so we wanted the bar to track the same way that we track on the back end – you can see real progress in real time, every day.
To quell any concerns, this does NOT mean that if we don’t hit our goal every day, that the site will go down, or that any of your hard work is in any sort of peril. It’s simply a marker for us of how successful we are at keeping up with the demands of running a website the size of Subeta, and it’s a way for you to keep track of how your contributions are helping us every day.
We also understand and appreciate that not everyone has the means or the ability to support us with their money. You can still make a huge difference by bringing new users to the site, showing them the ropes, and getting them to stick around – that’s JUST as important to us as the financial support we receive.
We’re going to continue to work hard to make Subeta the best we can, and we can’t thank you enough for your time and your loyalty. Thank you for playing!

Satyr
as mentioned on the thread, i'm all for steps toward transparency. and thank you for the explanation as well.

@Taffysm, not to continue your argument, but financial statements are available from all of those places you mentioned (how a business spends its profits plays a large role in how consumers view that business and whether or not they choose to patronize it). Greater fiscal transparency is never a bad thing!

Neat. It will be interesting to see if the bar goes cray cray when new CSC items are released. o3o

Thanks for moving it out of the sidebar! :) Much better where it is now.
It'll be interesting to see the progress.

Not to start an argument but just going to point out. Did you buy a book at a bookstore? Buy groceries at a local grocer? Visit the local coffee shop? Ever asked them for a cash flow report because you make regular purchases at that particular location? Personally, I buy all my books from the one locally owned bookstore. I would never dream of saying, Oh Hey Kim, since I buy all my books here and help support your business, so can I get a cash flow report so I know what you did with the money I freely spent here?
Be realistic. This is a business. Just because we pay the bills does not mean we have a controlling interest in the business.

I was so startled, when I saw that thing on my personal widget a couple of minutes ago, fortunately it had a link to explanation. But I am thankful those 2 rows are no longer on said widget. Thanks for removing again!

LMAO i can throw the starving artists a BBQ and party my yard will hold many tents :P and i live in on a dead end dirt road so noise isnt any trouble! PARTY!!!

Love it, personally.
It's a good reminder of the fact that, hey, we need to show our appreciation and this is how we can do it.

and also. Thumbs up for the progress bar too! I kind of like this. So when you dont hit 100% can we all poke you and be like, DUDE!?!
;)
It will be interesting to see how this progress bar works :)

Keith your users like to eat too!
I'm curious, why is this all of a sudden such a big deal that it has been brought up in the forum it has? Surely if there was the need for cash flow this could have been broached way before now or at least over many months/weeks/days instead of suddenly launching on us like this to basically bring in more revenue.
For the past 4+ years of being a member I have held a gold account, no questions asked as where that money goes I've just been happy to play along, but if you really want us to be putting in money and bringing in new people to put in their money I believe we all (money spenders) should be getting some form of monthly/quarterly reports to see where our money is going.

giggles @Rah "I do enjoy eating."
Sorry i dont even know but this made me laugh, and get strange looks from the children. It is lack of sleep! Work (2-11am) and cleaning the house and making my own Business Plan to buy my work place. My brain finds humor in the weirdest things lately! So THANK YOU, after another edit of the BP and lookin through the financial muddle, this was much needed! ;)

I'm glad you moved it from my taskbar to the news feed because I thought it was something I personally needed to do for my account or something. I love the idea! ^-^ It really helps users see just how much they support a site (or not) and even though some people might see it as a ploy to get them to spend more money, I don't see it that way at all. Subeta isn't the first forum/website game I've played so I know that they need money to survive and I'm just happy that Subeta just keeps improving with time, rather than getting worse like some sites I've played that will remain nameless, and that's why this is the first site I've ever actually felt like supporting (and have been supporting a few times). Keep up the great work! ♥️

Seeing made me feel that you were so saying that those of the users that can not buy csc and cs items were not as important as those that can, unless we bring in other users to play on a game that lately seems to be in disarray and lots of important things breaking all the time while new stuff is added and things that could wait to be updated are being shoved to the front of the fixing line than things that have been messing up for a while now.

Y'all are a class act. Thanks for moving/explaining it, and as for my grumpiness in the SB earlier:

LMAO How is this rude? The site is just barely breaking even, and the money it gets comes from the users. How do you expect them to get money if not from the users? That's what the Cash Shop is for after all, and it's the primary source of income for the site. Many, many people have asked Keith to be more transparent about the financial situation on Subeta, and I, for one, am glad that he's talking about it more and implemented this bar. It gauges how well Subeta is doing each day, which is something I'd definitely like to know.
Sorry but this whole thing is rude and sucks, you started the site, you knew what you were in for when you decided to create this site and now you are putting it back (costs) onto those who play here and have supported you.

@SongSparra I'm sorry it read that way to you! You guys (the users) are actually super important, this isn't like a Wal-Mart announcement. If it weren't for you guys playing the game we wouldn't be here, much less paying for it via gold accounts and the cash shop.
Unfortunately, Subeta is a business. We aren't putting the costs back to the users who've supported us, we're paying for running a business by asking our customers to continue purchasing from the site. I wish we could run it for free, but artists like to eat!

@Bioshock It doesn't change! The first few days of the month (because of collections) are way more than in the middle of the month. The goal is to obviously have that not be the case, but there are absolutely going to be days where the bar barely moves, and days where it hits 100% fairly quickly.
Sorry but as soon as I read to the part that said "you’re so important" I cringed as it sounded so fake and like such a suck up, which sadly in the end it was.
I pay money for the convenience of skipping adds and auto pricing my shop no other reason and I'm not going to drag others onto the site that aren't interested just to boot quota.

Keith, shame!

Is the daily goal the same all the time, or does it change day to day. Like I assume you expect to bring in a lot more cash in the early days of a month/ new item releases than a regular day like today. Is that reflected in the goals, or is it just averaged out over the month/year to give a steady daily goal that will be missed some days and smashed on others?

its cool to know what is going on but i think it might make people that can't buy csc or cs items feel a bit awkward. since i am one of those people and i know how it made me feel seeing it there.

Thank you for moving it to the news page :D and for letting us see how you're doing! I agree with LoftyBalloon, figures about how much is needed to run and how much acutally comes in would make the bar even clearer.
im much less belligerent about this feature now that it's on the news page and not making my screen 5000px wide :'D good on you

Thank you for explaining it, listening, and moving it to the news page...and for comforting me in letting me know the site wouldnt go down Keith I really love this place...I dont want it to go away.
And honestly all this talk of Reddit makes me want to go look...Ive never been. -.- lol...

I can already smell the 'u expet me to pai 3 subeta' comments.
But yeah. Numbers are good.
But yeah. Numbers are good.

I would be interested in seeing some actual numbers, even if they're just an estimate. How much does it cost to run Subeta each day? How much is coming in?

Thank you for moving it to the news page instead of the dashboard and letting us know what's going on. :)
i think that's a good idea, since people really dont realise just how much work goes into sites like these. it requires a lot of time, and yes, money! to keep the place running! I support the site whenever I can, as I love the whole thing! but for those who can't, just enjoy yourself, keep playing and have fun :D
