Ya know I hadn't thought of that. You and Valiska both mentioned potential acne issues with the coconut oil and puberty. He just informed me that he hasn't used it in 3 days but he agrees that he might be having hormonal changes again because his arms and legs always get sore before a growth spurt. (He's already 5'10", geez). I also hadn't taken into consideration that he's starting to sprout a pretty thick mustache. He said despite the rash he'll never shave. (He's waaay too proud of it lol). Maybe the acne is just ingrown hair, or just a general rash from new hair growth? It could be anything.
I was given 2 websites for different masks from another subeta user who's also very skin sensitive. I'm in the process of buying one from each site.
..and I completely forgot about his plastic mask. He got it from another parent before masks were mandatory and were uncommon. He fell asleep on the sofa just now, but I hope he still has it lol. I'd still have to research its level of protection, but he's never worn it so it might work! I've spent well over $50 on various plastic(ish) masks only to discover they weren't approved. (I research extensively nowadays though lol). I just kinda had anything non-cloth disregarded because of that.
I am so grateful for all the info I've received from here :) ((hugs)) to subetians lol :) greatly appreciated!

Hi! If youll let me make some suggestions too... I recommend trying a mask made of polypropylene fabric, that same material that reusable shopping bags are made of. I have oily skin and have always been fairly prone to acne, but wiping those out every night with witch hazel like Valiska recommended has worked super well and I am able to wear it several days in a row without any issues. Because theyre plastic they wipe pretty easily. I get the witch hazel facial toner with a tiny bit of alcohol in it. Just make sure theyre dry before wearing it. :x
I remember when coconut oil was all the rage and I would slather it on my face. Any type of oil is really helpful for alleviating a rash. There are charts online of different oils and how comedogenic they are, aka how likely they are to make you break out. Turns out there are much better oils than coconut, like castor and jojoba and tons more.
I also want to say that 14 is a rough age for acne. I remember trying all the different products hoping one would be a cure-all for acne, washing it several times a day, straight up exterminating every organic particle on my face, etc. In the end I gave up and that helped. I think as the body changes, it needs time to adjust and figure out the right amount of oil to produce for a healthy ecosystem. Try just washing with gentle soap and water and putting small bits of toothpaste on the pimples so they can dry out on their own. Best luck to your kid and I hope he feels better!

Witch Hazel.. Brilliant! I totally forgot about that stuff.
As much as I 100% appreciate the fact that you went outta your way to give me all of that useful info, I've already tried most of them and they failed. He's been sensitive to many types of fabric since birth. I even had trouble with most diaper brands and cloth ones too. He could only wear 3 (very expensive and uncommon brands). Cotton, spandex, denim, and silk (or satin, I forget) are pretty much the fabrics he's limited to.
All of his masks are cotton. They cause problems too. He has 8 of them that get handwashed daily and machine washed twice a week. Initially I assumed the problem was because my older son is very creative, and created designs on 3 of them. (One was Ironman. He made me a Cheshire Cat one). I assumed he was sensitive to the dyes that were used. Nope! Plain white cotton ones irritated him. I bought one off Amazon that was supposed to be hypo-allergenic, FAIL. MY daughter works in a nursing home and brought him some disposable ones. FAIL. My boyfriend brought him a Covid approved paper-ish construction mask. It was perfect until we discovered he was also sensitive to the metal on it. It wasn't nickel either.
As far as the coconut oil, he has used it like most people use lotion since the dermatologist recommended it 3 years ago. He's also not acne prone. At least not before the masks. He's always only gotten 1 or 2 small pimples on his forehead, that's it. Never anywhere else. Never more than 2. Never more frequent than once every 3months.
I even thought it could be his breath. Maybe he had extra bacteria in his mouth. He started brushing, flossing and rinsing with peroxide and listerine (alternately) every time he washed his face (every 30-45 min) FAILED.
Trust me, I have seemingly tried everything. Sadly the only masks that don't irritate him are the ones my daughter brought from work.. But they gave them away because they weren't safe approved. I don't feel comfortable with that, so for now he wears those underneath his cotton ones. He says he can't breathe and I'm pretty sure he hates me now lol.
To sum up though, he never goes anywhere for more than 3 hours at a time. .and not even everyday. I just feel so bad for him. I've been asking on random forums everywhere hoping that anyone else has the same ridiculous number of issues and has found a solution. It's crazy that I hadn't thought to ask on subeta before today.. Because I've already recieved more valuable info here than I have anywhere.
I appreciate it from the depths of my soul :)

@Dawniefer I also have sensitive skin and don't tolerate scented detergents and so on. "Maskne" is very common--you can google it. I'm not blaming the coconut oil, precisely, but putting oil on acne-prone skin can cause pimples. Another option would be an oil-free moisturiser such as Korean snail cream--Mizon and ElishaCoy are good brands.
My first thought is that if he's using cloth masks he should wash them every time he uses them in a soap he can tolerate and rinse them well, then let them hang up to dry. He should also rotate them and not wear the same one one or more days in a row. Just as clean pillowcases are important for acne-prone skin, so is a clean mask. Acne is caused by a bacterium, and anything that touches the skin of the face must be kept clean. If he goes out every day, he should have at least as many masks as he has underwear, so he can keep them just as clean. I like the jersey cloth masks that Redbubble sells and for a bonus you can get them with fandom characters and cute art on them. I'm currently wearing a thylacine mask! (the thylacine is curled up and asleep in some flowers, it's very cute).
Instead of peroxide, try witch hazel. It's a bit less drying and you can get it at the drugstore much more easily than you can get peroxide these days.
He shouldn't use an N95 unless he's doing surgery, LOL, or otherwise likely to come into contact with aerosolised bodily fluids, because the material those things are made of is very irritating. If he needs an N+ mask for any reason related to work, he should get a cloth one with filters that go inside it so the filter does not touch his skin.

This question is a tad off topic to current discussion, (maybe that's good?).. but my 14yr old has extremely sensitive skin. (I can't use detergents with harsh chemicals). When he wears his mask, the surrounding areas of his face swell up and turn red. He takes his mask off to wash his face frequently, and a dab of coconut oil has been helping a lot in regards to the rash. However, he's becoming self conscious about the pimples he's been getting because of this.. (Even though the mack covers them lol). He's never had this problem before. He calls it "maskne" (mask acne lol..anyway). Does anyone know how to prevent this? He normally uses peroxide on his face, but now it stings bc of the mask irritation. I'd appreciate any type of suggestions. (Just please don't blame the coconut oil lol)

I'm so excited to see more mask items on site!
For health reasons, I should wear a mask in public at all times, regardless of the pandemic, but for years I didn't because I was too self-conscious about it. Around the very start of the pandemic (coincidentally), before we were all advised to wear masks, declines in my health forced me to accept that I need to take it more seriously and wear a mask regardless of how I felt about it.
I tend to prefer making my HA resemble me, so one of the main ways I tried to change my own perceptions about them was by trying to use them on my HA more often. Having more options will make it easier for me to make more mask-positive HAs, which has been helping with my confidence in wearing the masks I need to wear to manage my health, so thank you for this!

Yes! I was sooo excited when I was first told out about that item (currently saving). I have enough to get it but I cringe a little when I think about spending so much for a treasure item, lol. Thanks for looking out. If you happen to think of any other appropriate treasure items or potential pet friends that I might've missed, feel free to message me or ping me somehow. (This goes for everyone) ;)

Super in favor of seeing some plain colored ones as well, so it's good to hear there are more on the horizon @Amber ♥️
Also...this discourse is wild because these aren't the first, second, or even third round of lower face masks on this site - just for on-site items. We had 2 different styles in this year's Masq shop, we've got one in the Carnival shop, the 2019 Masq shop also had a set of fabric masks, there's the Delish Material Mask, the Saheric dusk masks that cover the mouth and nose, the plague doctor masks from Migrating Masks (both full and half masks), all the assorted gas masks, not to mention the pretty decent amount of CW masks that have come out over the years (including the bad boy masks that are also cloth half masks).
Like...y'all, this ain't even new here.

@unwritten - Yes, plaid ones would be great!
I wish it didn't have to take a pandemic for subeta to get some nice face mask items, and I'm sorry that it is reminded people of the stresses of RL in their online retreat, but I really appreciate having these, and wouldn't say no to more! The doctor one is a little too formal, and the fabric ones/bandanas are too bulky. I LOVE my foot rash skin, been showing it off since 2008, but the mouth is admittedly a little grotesque, and it truly is nice to finally have some nice new options to cover it up.

I kinda want a pink plaid one so it matches the main one I wear irl. I was very happy to see this as an addition to the site.

My previous comment was just a rant about real-life anti-maskers. If you're not one of those, then it wasn't directed at you, and I sincerely thank you for doing the responsible thing.
@MarchOnOff I did refer to the "took away our smiles" thing in my comment but that phrase has definitely been used in anti-mask rhetoric (I've seen it elsewhere) and that's why it irritated me and I got snarky about it. I wasn't really trying to call you out directly (the phrase had already been repeated here several times so I was just sort of joining the conversation) and I'm sorry for piling on about it. I know we're just super tired of all of this and the fact that the masks themselves remind you of your frustration is understandable and valid. Personally, I really like masks because they help keep us safe, same way I like seatbelts and airbags because those have definitely saved my life. Plus, I was already kind of a safety/PPE nerd because of my hobbies, so I like having virtual ones on here too (btw we already had quite a few on site pre-covid so this addition isn't really anything new). Anyway, I apologize if my comment upset you; I do understand that you're not actually anti-mask and you have a right to your opinion.

That's good to hear, the dot ones are nice but I was also hoping for some plain colours too. Though I am worried that even more people will complain if we end up having more masks (despite the fact that it was sugegsted in the forums).

Well, I can't say I'm too excited over my HA getting to wear a face-mask.
Fortunately, there's no requirement that my HA *has* to wear them. They are simply an option like other wearables on this site.

I know it's a little nitpicky, but I wish the masks had simply been one color rather than a polka-dot design.

Well, I started with the paper masks for the quick trips, but my sister found us some washable cloth masks, so we've been using those, though when it's just a quick jaunt uptown and not staying up there for longer (such as doing several errands, that is, or a long grocery shopping trip), we use the paper masks.

I think a lot of people, particularly Americans, are feeling fatigued about the discourse around mask usage around the country. A lot of us are very frustrated and scared that our lives (or the lives of our loved ones) are being put at risk because of the way masks have been politicized. I'm 100% in favor of not tolerating selfish people who refuse to wear masks because it's a minor inconvenience for them, or whatever other bullshit argument they have.
But it's pretty clear to me that most of the folks here who expressed not liking the masks are not the same as the people irl who are so staunchly anti-mask. It's pretty clear to me, too, that the folks who spoke up about those feelings are also stressed out and hurt for completely, totally understandable reasons.
Can we uplift each other instead of punching down? This pandemic has been horrible for everyone and it makes sense to me why people want Subeta to remain a comfortable place for escapism. The masks are nice HA accessories, and it's so nice that nobody on Subeta has to slap one on their HA like we do irl.
I'm sorry for adding fuel to the fire with my comment earlier and for my unfair assumptions.

In regards to seeing masks worn on HAs... they make me feel the same way they do IRL.
I feel a sense of solidarity, of mutual understanding that something shitty is going on, and wearing a mask is the only visual cue we can give to each other to show we're all working on reducing its spread.

Oh, yeah, and for who the hell is interested in my comments, read this: I VOLUNTEER IN A PARENTS HOME, SO I WEAR NOT ONLY THE FUCKING MASK!! Read on the net what and where Mishan Beer Sheva is, corona wise, how many died there! Think what I see and go through every hour, not every day. Think I was in isolation too, mask and all. Most of all THINK FIRST!!!

I WEAR A MASK IRL!! It is not what upsets me, it upsets me that I come here to forget wearing the fucking mask and to forget a bit about fucking WORLD PANDEMIC!!! YOU do NOT have the right to mention nazzi, Holocaust and these kind of horrors that offend me deeply, since I AM A JEW!!! MY GRANDPA WAS AT BUCHENWALD!!! YOU do NOT judge because I do not judge anyone! I do NOT like masks, I am not anti-mask, I am anti-fucking-corona!! Get what I'm saying and not what YOU want to hear!!!

Can I say wow. Thank you for doing the work you do and have done and putting your life in danger for some of the most vulnerable in society. I cant imagine it being easy, knowing not everyone who lives on the streets is compliant with those trying to help. I sincerely hope your recovery is thorough. You're a good human being and I hope you are getting the support you deserve in the meantime.
I think what subeta is doing though is simply introducing a new item for those of us who like to model their avatars after themselves IRL. I haven't sensed them trying to make light of the situation, any more than the wheelchairs and prosthetics in the same store. Just a news story announcing their existence. And we can go back to ignoring them on here if we like.

For gods sake. I have no problem with masks in real life. I work for local government. We've basically been killing ourselves to get masks to people and helping to get as many homeless off the streets and into non-congregant shelter as we can because they are some of the people at highest risk (also because it's the right thing to do but only recently has there been funding/higher government will to do it).
I wear a mask in the real world where I could catch or spread the virus. I'm also all for national mandatory mask wearing. But HAs are not spreading covid, you can't get it over the bloody internet. I've had covid back in March before masks were a thing outside of medical personnel, I have physical damage from it, I worry constantly about spreading it even though it's been months because no one seems to know how it works, can you catch it again, can it come back. I haven't been around real people outside of absolute necessity since March. Add this to my job dealing with covid and there is no escape from this horror.
Yes, I like one place that is not being crushed by the reality of covid. This place is so worried about triggering people and being sensitive to everyone. How about some recognition that a pandimic that has upending everyone's lives and caused untold death and damage could just possibly be upsetting to people.
I don't find online masks fun. I much prefer if they weren't brought into one of the very few places that doesn't HAVE to be about covid. Because just about everything else in life does HAVE to be about it.

Disappointed by not surprised. There's always a small handful. And it's always the same handful, mostly. Shut up and wear your masks, you spread enough poison verbally without doing it literally as well.

The best thing about having to wear a mask at work is the fact the customers can not see the way my lips tightened when they ask what the price of something is when the sticker is on the back on the item.

I actually kinda love the mask thing, because I have chronically terrible skin no matter what I do, so wearing a mask means I don't have to put on tons of foundation whenever I go somewhere! Hell yeah masks! I have a very cool space one, it is extremely nice and everyone is jealous.

Probably won't use these specific ones, though we'll see if we get more colours :D

cute masks, nasty anti-maskers. is this the new anti-vaxxer?
that said, if you complain that wearing masks to help protect others during A WORLDWIDE PANDEMIC!!! is taking your freedom away, you look entitled beyond belief. it's basic human decency to maybe not breathe, cough, or sneeze openly where you could potentially be asymptomatic and carrying the virus. wear a mask. it's not taking your freedom away - it's like the laws about needing to wear clothes in public. you gonna start rioting because you're forced to cover up your genitals in public? that's not even a virus threatening the lives of countless people. it is, once again, basic human decency.
I want anti-maskers to look at the Holocaust though. people being forced to wear armbands to out themselves as Jews. putting targets on themselves, denouncing themselves as human in the eyes of Nazis. THAT'S taking freedom away from another human being. not having to cover your mouth and nose.

These are great. It still blows me away that this is a controversy, that there is actually all this discourse to be had over wearing masks during a respiratory virus pandemic. I was already wearing a mask while the WHO/CDC recommended against it (that was anti-hoarding/anti-panic propaganda and was not supported by science or previous experience with past outbreaks; unfortunately, that is how the authorities lost a lot of credibility right from the start). I still wear a mask now. I wear a mask every time I go out in public because it is the sensible thing to do and everyone would know why if they were paying attention. I wish more people would engage in critical thinking.
Also, I wasn't going to smile at random strangers in public anyway. I generally perceive that as fake and creepy, so please keep your smile behind a mask and let's all stay safe.

I work at Panera. I wear a mask everyday at work for usually 8, but up to 10 hours. So far customers have spat at my manager, threatened to fight me, thrown something at a coworker, berated several of us to the point of getting banned from the store.. all because we require people to wear a mask (properly) to enter. I’ve gotten several sarcastic responses when I’ve told someone their mask has to cover their nose. People walk in without their mask on and put it on after touching the door. There was one customer who pulled down their mask and started BITING THEIR NAIL. There are signs plastered all over that say you must have a mask on unless you’re sitting at a table, yet people will walk up to ask for a refill or extra salt or whatever bs without a mask on, then get defensive when told they need to get their mask and come back up.
And then, in between all those horrible people, you get the average person, who thinks it’s casual to say, “Oh, I hate wearing these masks.” And I, in my best customer service voice, have to say, “Yeah, haha, pretty weird world!” It’s soul-crushing. It’s soul-crushing and it’s emotional labor that I just barely have the energy for after dealing with another panic attack after writing another statement after having to ban another customer from the store for just.. not believing our lives are important.
Suffice to say I’m tired of hearing people complain about masks.

I have to wear a mask where I work (the office I work for never closed so I've been having to go in every day. "quarantine" what's that?) and they make some really cute ones. I have masks with samoyed puppies, stars, a kitty, husky pup, etc. They're adorable. Would love to see some like these for my HA.

@noelkreiss What masks are helping with your allergies? An N95 isn't helping with mine and I would've guessed that if anything would it'd be them. I also wear paper masks for quick trips to the garbage or mailbox and those don't help either.
@MagnusTheRed your HA is amazing.

I'd rather avoid this on subeta myself, but no one's forcing me or anyone else to get one. If you don't like them, don't buy them. Unlike in real life, there are no consequences, so just...don't.
But for the love of god wear them IRL. It's not about you, it's about not endangering everyone you come in contact with. I sure would like to go outside more than once a month, but I can't because of anti-mask people using their "freedom." If I bring it home to my mother, she'll die. But I guess it's worth it if you get to prove a point like a giant toddler about how you don't wanna and no one can make you.

I hear ya there! When things first started, I got annoyed with having to wear a mask, but knowing that my mother and father are both in the higher-risk categories than I am (both are over 60 years with health conditions, with my father having shortness of breath, that is), I started wearing the mask for their sake. However, the mask started to benefit me as well.
See, every year in the spring and summertime, I get really bad allergies, so while I loved to go outside, I'd always dread it once I got back inside because I'd be sneezing up a storm. With the mask, I've been finding each time that I have to wear it, when I come inside from being outside (or in a store that might get me sneezing afterwards), I'm not having sneezing fits. It's a bit of a win-win situation over here for me!
And, now, since my sister found me a cute tie-dyed mask and a leopard spots mask, I can wear them and wash them, which'll be EXCEPTIONALLY good when winter comes around to keep them on not only to protect against the cold, but also against the Flu and other viruses around, and not just this current pandemic. :)
In short, I'll wear my mask when I need to until it's not needed, and then when it's not, I won't. But yea, people should wear masks to help protect those that are vulnerable from viruses, because you never know who might get sick next, or worse, die from something that you could've helped prevent, or at the very least, lessen by wearing a mask. ;)

"because they took our smiles away"
of all the things to dislike masks for, it's not the lack of accessibility for deaf and hard of hearing persons, or those with audio processing disorders who need to read lips, it's...smiles?? you're serious?? lmao
also, I'm asthmatic AND it takes me weeks to recover from any respiratory illness, even the common cold. I can't get ALL my meds delivered due to laws on certain prescriptions, nor can I afford to have someone else buy my groceries and deliver them, nor can I ask my ancient-ass dog to never go outside again, so I see facemasks as a tool of personal liberation and empathy. Which of course makes it completely soul-crushing to see people bitch about them when the alternatives for me are starvation or death with a side of burdening my family with medical debt. Living here surrounded by people who all but say "I really don't care if you die, me eating inside at a restaurant is more important" and similar makes me equal parts furious and intensely depressed.

I find it humorous when I go to QuikTrip or 7-11, the sign that used to say "No masks or hoodies allowed" has been replaced by "Mask required upon entering" lol
I'm a rebel by nature, but I'm also sickeningly empathetic. I cannot grasp the concept of forcing people to wear a mask in public. As long as YOU'RE wearing one, shut it.
Then, I quickly found out that I couldn't remain drama free with that rebellious, yet logical way of thinking.
So, I realized that it really isn't that difficult to put a mask on for 10 minutes while in the store. That's what you gotta do to shut everyone up and avoid conflict.
I get that our rights have been taken away, but remember, our rights stop when they affect others.. And this situation REALLY affects others. Suck it up buttercup. :)
On that note.. This is subeta. The place to escape to. No mask required :)

As someone who has to wear a mask everyday for hours at my job, I gotta say, I love that I can wear them here if I want to, too. They're really not that bad to wear, and I hope that after everything, it becomes socially acceptable to wear one even while you have a cold or the flu, for the sake of lessening the chance of getting others sick. I hope we get more of them. They're super cute!

@MagnusTheRed Nope! Rainbows forever. :)
As for everyone else:
If you don't want to wear a mask on your avatar, that's fine. Nobody is going to think that you're being irresponsible if your avatar isn't wearing a mask. Some people like to come here to escape from real-world problems and other people like to put their avatar in outfits they themselves would wear, including taking into account their local weather and the pandemic.
I work in healthcare, and I wear a mask IRL religiously. My avatar lives in a fantasy world. This should be obvious, because she is also a fossa, although she is much more interested in shopping today than in trespassing, breaking up parties or ripping off limbs.
If you're whining about having to wear masks IRL though, cut. it. out.
I work behind the scenes, not on the frontline, but my co-workers and friends already have to ration their PPE.
They--and other essential workers like grocery store clerks, delivery people, and janitors--are having to burn through extra PPE because people like you do not want to put a piece of cloth over your face. Clerks, delivery people, janitors, and other people outside of healthcare are getting SICK because they don't have any extra reserves at all.
You don't even have to buy a special mask if you don't want to. Most places will allow you to wear a bandanna or a handkerchief as long as it covers your mouth and nose. This is literally the most ridiculous thing ever to complain about.
Try and look at the bright side. Nobody's going to see whether you have makeup on. Nobody's going to see your 5 o'clock shadow or catch you with spinach in your teeth.
Nobody's asking you to wear a burqa, and we don't want you to wear the scratchy, uncomfortable N95s because we need those.
When you refuse to wear masks, either because you don't believe the risk is real, or because you're young and healthy and think you're likely not to get very sick, you are increasing the risks to my friends' and co-workers' lives, not to mention your elderly, disabled and immunocompromised family and friends.
Suck it up. Even if the life you save is not your own, it's still a life.

I can see using these for Masquerade (assuming they'll work for dancing since they have "mask" in the names) or even Morostide. I feel like they'd be appropriate for Survival, too. Or they can just be cute accessories any time.

These are adorable and I love 'em. Mask fashion is lagging years behind Pan-Asian fashion trends. I don't quite feel like I have the Harajuku aesthhetic without the mask depending on the mood of my HA.
Can't believe people wanna whine on here about pixels. I suggest a clown nose equipped instead of any masks on site.
And perhaps someone can make a plastic face shield item to equip on here, as well? You know, for the minority of the population that doesn't agree with masks. :P

Goodness, some of these reactions are a good reminder of why I didn't submit the mask/jockstrap CW I wanted to.
Over a year ago I had a funny idea for a spiked jockstrap (thank you LMFAO - Sexy and I Know It; to match my vests) but the CI would be a "mask"... it was a funny, joke idea. But I know how people can be. Then the pandemic reminded me of it because people jokingly wore their jocks as masks. I thought maybe it would be funny.
But look at the silliness actual masks bring out. My goodness.

We used to not have to wear masks if we didn't want to in my state, but I did so for my mother, who has high blood pressure and is pre-diabetic, a couple of weeks into the pandemic when it really started getting bad here in Arkansas, but since we've had cases jumping like no one's business now (went from 57 cases to almost 200 in just a few days in my county), the Governor implemented a mask mandate here to help slow the spread of the disease with only a few exceptions, yet people are complaining about wearing the mask and how it restricts their freedoms... Yea... Keeping your loved ones and others around you safe is "restricting your freedoms"...
Thankfully, I don't have to wear a mask here if I want to, which gives me a little bit of relief from having to wear a mask whenever I go uptown, and they still look cute! My sister got us some cloth masks that have leopard print and Tie-dye the other day, and it makes them a little bit more fun to wear and makes it where I want to wear a mask uptown when I go, rather than when I had to wear a disposable one or use a scarf in the early days.

There's a lot of fear and anxiety right now stemming from Covid. It's difficult in some areas still imposing lockdowns to meet up with friends (as well as lingering fears towards even doing so what if I catch it from my buddy?), lots of people have lost their jobs and are wondering what to do next, some have lost loved ones to the virus and still others fear losing their loved ones. Some people come to Subeta as a form of stress relief or escapism from what's happening around them. I don't think it's fair to make snark at someone who's feeling upset. They're probably not even really mad about these new masks, they may actually just be frustrated that they can't get away from the troubles happening in the real world. None of us can. All we can do is try to uplift one another and get through this. A little understanding and compassion can go a long way. That being said, I don't mind these masks. They help to promote safety and some folks might find comfort in using them on their avatars and that's great!

I have Asperger Syndrome and I hardly leave the house so I forget that a world wide virus is happening, I'll admit that when the whole mask wearing started I wasn't for wearing one, I do now after trying to understand the need for why it's needed. So I wear a mask before I'll walk into any store, I still dislike wearing a mask but I also understand it's a smart way to lessen exposure to a virus that has killed. So it's a person's free will if they wish to wear a mask or not. I for one choose to wear one not because I like to but because I want to lessen the risk of ever getting a virus that would mostly kill me, my family and my baby Gaby. I know the whole mask thing sucks but it's also smart to wear one.

I for one am glad that Subeta not only references real life events but is consistently on the right side of whatever's currently going on.
These masks are cute. I also forgot the fabric masks exist so I'm going to check those out now.
IRL, everyone should (and CAN) wear a mask! Hopefully more places enforce it (and also knock those fake "I can't wear a mask" cards out of people's hands :)).

lol Subeta has never shied away from referencing unpleasant IRL stuff. The masks are cute and a good reminder to be a responsible, considerate person in the real world. At least here, if your HA isn't wearing one because you don't like 'em, you won't kill grandma or your immuno-compromised neighbor.

Sneaky
I was freaked out by seeing people wearing masks because of the forced eye contact, but now I'm becoming desensitised. And I feel self-sconscious about wearing one, so I get around it by hiding my own eyes with sunglasses, and wearing a scarf over my face, so I can still be safe but also feel better about it. I'm also considering having a picture of myself either on my phone or on a piece of paper so if people are that bothered about not being able to see my face, they can look at the picture. What I'm trying to say is that I've found ways to cope with the things that bother me, and so can other people. Because it looks as if masks are here to stay, even when this virus isn't a big threat anymore people may still wear them for fashion or other health reasons.
