I joined the site pre-reset on June 23rd, 2004. I met my best friend @RenBug here the following month. I was 13. Fast forward to 2013, my best friend I met on Subeta flew out to my college graduation and officially became my best IRL friend. We live a little closer together now, halfway across the country instead of all the way across, but now we see each other in person once or twice a year.
I never would've met her without Subeta and its little shout box at the time. I love Subeta for what it's given me. I might not be super active anymore, but I'm still around. Here's to hoping we'll get some more storyline plots. I sure do miss those, too. Heh. I still remember when the pirates unexpectedly won against the islanders... fun times. That update took a while.

Gracious. I've been here since like 2008, or something. I mostly lurk, but one thing I love is that this site just keeps on going. It's been there through some of the hardest times in my life, and I'm grateful. I still have the first pet I ever made here, and the first one I ever adopted.

I've been on this site for over 15 years. I remember finding it back when I was 12 and looking for a site that was more friendly than Neopets. Going through so many pet sites and trying them all and Subeta was the one that stuck (do to the staff and funding mostly). I remember the Week the avatar system was added (which replaced the house system I've accepted will probably never happen) and just the sheer amount of chaos that happened. The new pets over the years. The plots. Getting to learn more about all the darling NPCs on the website.
The really big thing that always stuck with me about Subeta is the community though. The forums. The sheer love of the staff. The fact that this was a pet site made for 'older people' and it has never shied away from blood or being queer. That it is unapologetically here.

17 years?! I just checked my account and I joined 16 years and 8 months ago...I haven't been playing the entire time but I recently came back again after various hiatuses...I remember seeing a post about Subeta on the forum of another pet site all those years ago and never looked back! I convinced so many family members to join so we could all hang out online. I'm the only one who still plays but something about this place always keeps me coming back. What I've always loved is the art style - the pets and colours are so creative and the amount of new items never end. Admittedly it's a bit overwhelming each time I come back because I feel like I've missed so much, but at the same time there is a lot that's familiar and "homey". I've recently re-discovered the exciting wardrobe feature so I'm going to spend some time designing avatars and finding new wish list items. Thanks for being a wonderful constant after all of these years, happy 17th anniversary!

Wow I can't believe it's been 17 years, and I've been here for almost 15 of those! I love that the Subeta team takes users' feedback into consideration for new features and items. My favorite things about Subeta are the wardrobe & plots/special events which introduced to me to my favorite NPC:

One thing I really appreciate about this site is how often staff really listens to user suggestions. Several items I have suggested have made it on site, and that really makes me feel good to know that user voices are heard. Thank you so much for making me feel valued. :heart:

My favorite thing to do though is all year from January to December I collect things in my vault, and then when Luminaire Trees are released for putting gifts under, I flood my IRL Spouse's (@Demosa) tree with all the things I collected for them during the year, because then that way I can make sure they have an awesome Christmas even if I can't afford IRL presents for them. :)

What I love most is:
Nostalgia: I have been on subeta for a long time, since 2009. I lost my first account but made this one in 2012. I joined during Luminaire and shortly after experienced survival and that was really fun.
Wardrobe: the wardrobe is what makes subeta stand out. I along with many other users remember a time where there were no CWs and the wardrobe was a lot smaller. Back then you could only save 3 outfits and 5 with a GA. So you really had to pick your favorite outfits to keep, and I used to have to keep a booklet with the items for outfits written in order to save what I made. It was stressful, but now with the CW market expanded (and not so ridiculously expensive) we can make countless outfits and save hundreds without even owning the item! THAT IS SO COOL. The wardrobe and collecting my favorite CWs is why I am still around, I love expressing myself and making art through the wardrobe
The community: I haven't been too active in the community, but most users are very nice and helpful. I would also love to thank my beautiful fiancéRamdarow for joining Subeta this year and enjoying the new wardrobe and steamwork pets.
I am very glad to see this site is growing and getting stronger and not declining. The new subscription system is WAY awesome and a great idea to get money monthly and also give us perks good enough we want to pay. $5 for 500 CSC was kinda meh but $10 a month for all you get is way cool and I can use the buddy GA for my fiance.
I only have one suggestion for the site and that is just more plots! I know they're hard to organize and take a lot of time and more art to make and sometimes a new flash game but I just love the plots so much especially during Moro <3

I wish I found this site 15 years ago. I felt at home the moment I joined. I love the items, the art style, the descriptions, the avatar options, the pet choices, the flexibility and freedom, how there’s good stuff still available for free, the community, the generosity of the staff. Watching the site just fully grow and grow and grow has been a bittersweet moment, because I have been, as well.
From punching in the security codes at the shops when buying, to now, the flash games, the ever changing aesthetics, HA diversity, CWs and events.

When I first started Subeta this was a place for escapism for me. I was in a really bad place physically and mentally. Subeta helped me cope with that.
Over the years I've met a lot of great people through Subeta who have pushed me to manage a lot of the mental health problems I was struggling with, so you could say my favorite part of Subeta now is that through it, I've become genuinely happy. :)

I'm a week or so old, new to this site, and was invited by my friend User not found: erikaadelaide but so far i think it's hard to choose my favourite thing. The people here have been so nice and welcoming. The pets are really cute and I love the ability to edit my pet's profiles and give them stories. The customisation is amazing and i love the human avatars!! There's so much so far to love about the site!!

I'm the only one of my OG friends group to still be here, and I joined three and a half years into its run (after losing my former pet babies on another site and was definitely burned by it).
I adore the site layout and how easy it is to restock/gather pet treasures across the site; GA's are easy to purchase and are quick as anything to top up; I'm -obsessed- with the wearables and am totally enamored by just how many pets we're able to have here <3!
I LOVE the art and the creativity around here (I mean, Pet Spotlight is AMAZING every darn week!! Y'alls should be proud AF for how many adorable pets ya have!!!), and the rampant excitement whenever something new is released or items are re-released back into the fold for those of us who missed them the first go-around.
As for item...oh boy that's such a difficult choice! Probably this particular CW as it matches my fursona a little too well haha:
And pet-wise...you won't get much of a choice out of me: THEY'RE ALL SPECIAL AND I LOVE THEM <3 <3 <3

I’m the only one of my friend group still on here, but I still love how well Subeta balances the social aspects, the pets and all details of them, the avatar and clothing, as well as collecting and other gaming parts. I marvel at it, even almost 13 years after migrating here from uh, a different site. Subeta has community, and longevity. I love this pet site because its not run by complete idiots like the rest of them.

They all try their best and are always on top of things and planning new stuff for us.
I like coming here and relaxing when life has me stressed to the max.

I really like how Subeta has been a consistently good place. Good people, good events, good art. I've been many places on the internet that were good for awhile but faded overtime or changed direction in a way I didn't like. I've loved a lot of the events here especially.

I've never really kept going on a pet site as long as I have with this one, and that just goes to show what a good time it is for me. I love too many of the pet species to narrow a favorite down, but I have a real soft spot for the Paralix and Legeica, since they were some of my first ones. Aside from that I love all the people here and all the thought/care that goes into the NPCs and plots. All I can say is thanks for all the fun years and here's to many more! c:

I'm a terrible human who doesn't deserve friends lol, usually coz the only time I have enough confidence to actually say anything online is when I am drunk and being an a-hole. 😭
But I LOVE this site because I do NOT have a lot of money IRL and sp is easy to make here... so when I feel the need for a cathartic impulse shopping spree? I can spend a couple mil sp instead of any real money and satisfy that need. So THANK YOU for saving me from buying real life junk I don't need, and spending money I can't afford.
Also I love making pets based on OCs and I LOOVE <3 filling up their treasures. It's helped me develop OCs, to ponder what I should put in their treasure chests. <3

Subeta continues to be one of the few sites where I see an surprisingly nice community. Everyone gives people random, not-junk gifts. Not to mention, this site's been one of the few places I can find decent roleplay partners.

Oh, Goodness, We've been on this site for years. We had to make a new account due to some issues. We've been on this site for over 10 years. What a ride it has been, haha. We love everything about this site. Our only issue is that they gender/assign a sex to the avi bases We're all nonbinary + plural {endogenic, not did} {gender & genderlessness are also very foreign to us, we just are}. Other than that this site is amazing. May Subeta continue to thrive! Thank you for all the great memories!

Hi Subeta team! I'm a casual player and play Subeta when I'm rewinding after a loooong day of work. Playing Subeta helps me shut my mind off things and lets me do quests at my own pace and relaxes me. I love the whole vibe of the whole site, the amount of customable stuff I can play with in the wardrobe (even though I'm not able to contribute much to the site but I try!) and most importantly the events that the site puts out! I miss the friendships I had as a child on this site. I miss the forums being really active and bustling. But I think my favourite thing that still remains is that this site has been such a... rock? to me throughout my life. I grew up alongside this website. Shit, I was under 16 when I first joined all those 16 years ago. I still have one of my original pets. It's so crazy to think that something I loved so much as a kid is still around and still a presence in my life. All of the other sites I played as a kid are now relics people dream of fondly. Subeta's still functional, still cared for, still a place I can escape and chase nostalgia.
Thanks for all of the effort in keeping it alive. I'll never forget all of the time I've spent here, all of the happenings we've had and experienced together.

I've been here for 13.5 years and my only regret is missing out on those first 3.5 years! I've joined and played many, many, MANYYY [virtual pet] games [and the like] over the last couple of decades, but Subeta is one of only 3 or 4 that I've stuck with and played consistently through the years. I love that it caters to so many personalities. I'm uncreative and antisocial but still find plenty to keep my interest here. My favorite aspects are special events and collecting minions. <3

I really LOVE the HA customization we have, the creativity that CW artists and their commissioners have, the artists that make overlays and pet pages, and the general feeling of inclusivity. Sure there are cliques here, too, but on other sites the cliques are really, really strong and you can't really enter into them easily.

I've made a best friend on here and irl through this site in @Kikariri and made several good friends I care about as well. Met so many amazing people, and there are so many generous and sweet people on here, and you honestly feel like the site is a giant family, even with our dysfunctional moments, and our celebratory moments. I love my pets, and I've seen so many pretty and great pets as well through others. I actually also look forward to several site events and treat them like they're holidays, and I get excited for them. The free shop is amazing and fun, and I will literally camp out on the site for days and refreshing to make a grab, no matter where I am or what I'm doing, so grateful for that. I think I've been on here for about 14 of those years. No clue where time goes. I love this site for being gay-friendly, for having a relatively stable economy, having adorable pet art, having a huge variety of items, how much fun holidays are, and for being geared towards people of all ages. I generally keep to myself unless I have a specific question, but Lumi time is my favorite time of year on this site because it's the one time I go out of my way to talk to people. Just like in real life, I love shopping, so an excuse to get gifts for random strangers is a lot of fun for me.
Heck my only complaint is that I'm too dumb to understand CSS so I'll never have the awesome pet profiles of my dreams...and I think I can live with that ;)

my favorite thing about the site has always been the avatar customization and the fact that the queer community has ALWAYS been accepted (rather than pandered to once a year)--but i have to say the friends you can make, as well! i met my best friend on the forums here 11 years ago, and now we own a house together and have been living with each other for 5 years and have a whole host of cat children to take care of. happy anniversary subeta, and thanks for everything!

My favorite thing about Subeta is that it's never afraid to change. Of all the online games I've ever played, Subeta is the best at listening to its users and trying to make things better for everyone. They're not afraid to say "the way we used to do that was not the best, and we're going to try to be better" - like the antique shop exists to re-release old prizes, so not only the oldest users have a chance to get old things.

I was sixteen when I joined Subeta, where I met my two very best friends- I am 32 now, and they are absolute pillars in my life, and I cannot imagine not having them in it- and I owe it all to Subeta. I adore Subeta because there are always new items, events, pets, etc. being added. I always look most forward to Morostide (my fave!) But I'm always excited for the others. The in depth plot events are always much appreciated as well.
I've also had a deep respect for the way staff handles inconveniences during events and downtimes, such as extending event dates, handing out freebies, etc. It makes me feel valued and appreciated as a player.
Lastly, I want to acknowledge the way this site has evolved over the years. It's become such a smooth playing experience, after so many years of testing and adapting. I remember once upon a time when questing wasn't always profitable because an npc would ask for an item that wasn't in shops, or it was ridiculously priced. I always loved reading, but through roleplaying here I found that I also loved writing and developing characters. Seventeenth?! Holy crap I always thought I had joined when the site was already at least a year old, but apparently I've been here almost for its entire lifespan. It's so hard to pick a favorite when I have so many wonderful memories of this site.
My favorite NPC is definitely Elwood, even if he isn't a very prominent one. I just think he's neat. And my favorite thing about Subeta is definitely how it's not afraid to be risqué. I remember being a teen when a Subeautique line came out that had like, nipple pasties and handcuffs, or something like that, and I thought it was so cool!
Something a little more abstract that I like is how it's not afraid to stray from the virtual pet site mold that a certain other site set by implementing some great quality of life features - stuff like giving plushies a function by making them collectable, item mouseover popups (with the option to search in shops directly from there!!!), the "account search" feature, etc. I just feel like Subeta has been overall rather good at keeping the site usable as the internet evolved. I don't mean to compare, but as someone who plays The Other Site regularly and has seen how they absolutely failed to modernize the site before the death of Flash, it's always been REALLY refreshing to see Subeta keep up with the times a little more (even if Subeta 2.0 is still a work in process).
Congraulations Subeta, you're almost old enough to drink in most of the world! And congratulations staff for sticking with this site through thick and thin, I know there's been rough patches but I'm very happy to see you keep it up!

Happy Birthday! I joined a little more than 15 years ago, but took some time off because the site was almost impossible to navigate at the time. Then my niece and Aunt started on it, and they were really enjoying it, so I started to be active again. I was mostly on the site because of them. My niece no longer plays, and my Mom passed away 5 years ago this month. She loved this site. She loved dressing up her HA and working on her pet's pages (she made an album on FB of her HAs). Some days are tougher than others to be on here without her. The holidays are the hardest. I come on a lot in honor of her. I do love the art, the community, the site events...even when they don't work as planned in the beginning, and dressing up my HA is fun. I don't do as much on the site that is offered, admittedly, but I do still enjoy it.

I don't know many people here because I'm not that active, but I love that the community is very welcoming and generous, I feel very safe and at home!

I've read all of the comments and I was already going to mention the holidays/events/plots but many have put it into better words. My favorite part about them is how creative and interesting they are especially the holidays, I will forever love that Valentine's Day on subeta is about zombies for two big reasons. 1. Zombies have quickly become a staple to the point of being their own genre at this point and you found a clever way to do that. And 2. honestly, as an ace person all the focus on romantic love during the month of February used to make me feel like there was a plague of lovesickness anyway (which sucked because my birthday is just a few days before Valentine's Day), so the zombies make Valentine's Day better to me. But I also really, really like Masquerade, too. The fact you can't see users names unless you dance with them is a nice touch on top of a great event.
Another thing I love about events is what the community adds to them. I'm too much of a hermit <s>and hoarder</s> to participate but it always amazes me to see how generous and involved people are during holiday events.
It honestly makes me ashamed that for so long I'd only comeback for Melody's Cottage and miss out on so much (especially the plots, I regret missing those the most). Sticking around for the other events this year because of how awful the last 2 years were made me realize how much I was missing out on year after year.
I also really like the inclusion of the Minion Zoo. When I was first into subeta 10+ years ago I could never pick what minion to give to my pets so I decided to just collect them and put them in my old gallery. When the shops/galleries were overhauled and we needed to move everything over to new shops/galleries is when I discovered the Minion Zoo so now my gallery is books cause I like to collect books in real life too. Point is, I was collecting Minions before there was an official way to do so.
My favorite colors are Glacier because they genuinely look cool, pun honestly not intended, and Darkmatter will always have a place in my heart. Admittedly, there are a lot of pets I like that I don't have because I don't want to get overwhelmed, like Demi's and Sheeta's, and most of my current pets were adopted and I'm now attached to their species. Well, most of them, I still like zapping them on occasion just to see what they'll turn into.

I've been here since....heck I dunno but I remember Subetageddon '11 and that was 10 years ago! This site pretty much got me through lockdown last year. I may not do the social aspect very much but I enjoy doing quests, buying things and generally faffing about here. Here's to another 17 years ok? 8D

I've just started playing again after a couple years of breaks. I kiind of like that it was fun to jump right back into it? I restocked a keystone mould and an ornate pitcher in the same day, and got so much from the FS (one of the reasons I booted the game up again). But it's been fun to see how easy it is to get back into things

OF COURSE, the real friends are the friends we made along the way
but I also really loved being part of the change over from "earth" holidays to subeta holidays, and watching each of those unfold.
I also appreciate the level of customization available in HAs. I used to be more into making them than I am now, but I still really enjoy playing dress up sometimes. I'm sure they exist out there, but I don't know of anywhere else that his this level of detail and so many options for playing with it, and I have always enjoyed that aspect.
Thank you, staff, for busting your butts for us all, and making such a wonderful place.

I have been here since the first year and over half my life! My favorite part is the sustainable longevity of this site. There are always updates, new items, plots, awesome CC, pretty pets, challenges, and people to talk to (though I don't normally lol). I joined a lot of pet sites back in 2004/2005 and many I can't even remember the names, but this one stayed. Oh and my favorite plot was the Morostide plot a few years back.

I love a lot about the site. My #1 is the possibility to change the layout scheme. I use the Arctic Frost theme since years. Many, many, many, many, many~ years. When I log in, I always see the wonderful icy, blue-white theme all 365 days. Also when it's not snowy outside.
Next I enjoy sending random gifts to people I don't know and sometimes we get in contact. Meeting new peoples while helping them with wl stuff is the way, I meet some of my longtime-friends here. Luminaire isn't my favourite event/holiday, but send out gifts to people is something I enjoy also in real. And to have the chance to do it virtual means a lot for me.
Since the Mallarchy Pond give out old Morostide items, I was able to feed my pets with long-wanted wl stuff. It's always cool to see when the games got a little update. Also to gain (non) food items your after years.
Working on achievements is also something I love about subeta and I often wish that all the plushies are real and I own them. °^° For the next 17 years. ^_^

At no point in my life have I had success at making a deep long term friendship. But here I find so many friendly people that I still hope. And I know that I will find kind and encouraging words if I look for them. Thank you for so many years even with all the ups and downs :) pun intended. Though I haven't enjoyed all the decisions the site has made and I am dreading to new site, Subeta will always have a special place in my heart.

I ADORE subeta. When I came to the site, it was with a group of friends leaving neopets. Sadly, they did not stay, & left me here. I would have a hard time picking one single thing. I adore this site, the events, the battling, Lumineve, Freyalise, Masqurade, & the list goes on. I am afraid y'all are stuck with me!!

One of my favorite aspects of subeta is the versatility. Site art doesn't fit with your vision? Get an overlay! Want your pet's page to flip pages like a book or play like an old silent film? Yeah, there's CSS for that, just paste it in! Outfit needs something not available on the site? Make your own clothes! There's just so much you can do to personalize and really get creative if you have the skills and if you don't, there's probably someone you can find who does!
That and the communication staff has with the users. People complain that you might not necessarily make a news post for all the things they feel are newsworthy, but the communication and transparency staff here has is worlds better than we see on some other sites.

Happy anniversary! I can't believe how old the site is now. I've been here for almost half my life.
When I was younger, one of my dreams was to build an avatar and/or pet site...now I'm older, I'm a web developer, I've seen so many other sites rise and fall...and I understand now how much effort it actually takes. You need to build not only a website, but a community, and a company. The art style of Subeta is amazingly consistent. Updates are pretty regular, and though they vary in size, they don't stop. That all takes a lot of commitment.
The amount of stuff there is to do here is staggering, compared to a lot of other sites I've tried. The item selection, after almost TWO DECADES, is unreal. Sure, we all have complaints and wish for certain things, but overall I'm seriously impressed with how long the site has survived, and how it's grown into something that both old and new users can become obsessed with. I still love it here, and I know others do too. I hope everyone on the staff is proud of what's been accomplished over the years, and I hope it only gets better.

the thing i love the most about subeta is that i am able to play at all. when i lost my eyesight i thought i had lost my games forever. my hubby tried to bolster my spirits by getting me this screen reader saying that i may not be able to play games any longer but at least i could surf the net. the first place i went after learning how to use the screen reader was subeta. i didn't have high hopes that the screen reader would work but i had to try - i missed my pets. imagine my utter elation when i found the screen reader worked on 90% of the site. subeta gave me my games back and i am very greatful. happy birthday subeta. i hope youre around for another 17 years.

crazy to think ive been on here since 2006 😳 im very shy and reclusive so i dont interact w community much beyond the occasional profile comment, but something i really love about subeta that keeps me here, are the pets and the wacky colors they come in- i love antlephores and sheetas excessively (really praying for storm and or riftborn versions of them) and the nightmare, riftborn, and graveyard colors have to be my faves *__*

Despite periodic growing pains, I also love the wardrobe. I have seen 4(? maybe 5, I don't remember) different wardrobes now, and as the issues have been ironed out with the current one I've really grown to like it quite a bit.

I'm gushing now. but I really do love the holidays/events here.)

So I've been here for 13 years and I stick around because I like having something to do while I unwind after work: but it never gets monotonous! The events keep it fresh and are always fun, and the HA system is such a fun creative outlet. I've never encountered a clothing system that lends itself to SO MUCH variety, you can really do almost anything with it and it's constantly getting better.
And yes, everyone on this site is genuinely so nice and welcoming. I haven't made any really close friendships here but I used to be a huge lurker on purpose and changed over time because I've never met such a lovely and legitimately open/kind group of people anywhere else on the internet.

I love how much there is to do! I log on every day and still feel like I have something I can do, even just casually.... and how much this site has changed! I played it as a kid and came back recently as an adult and it's nice to see snippets of nostalgia while still feeling new and fresh!

I've been more or less on Subeta for a bit over 15 years now and I think the welcoming and creative community has always been my favorite part of the site :) I think this can be at the very least partly attributed to the work staff does, including both developing the site to the direction that's fair and engaging to old and new players and communicating openly with the users.
I also love the artwork! I've had to search for recipes for some of the food items, they look way too delicious not to try :D

The art has to be my favorite thing about this website, it's what drew me in! From the goofy old items to the sparkly new ones, I find all the many art styles of Subeta to be so enchanting. All of the items, pets, the wearables, Subeta has such an art style that is all its own while keeping a petsite feel with the cell shading & the black line art!! My favourite is also the friendships. I metFLUX here and while she may no longer be on the site she is a vital part of my life and I couldn't wish for a better friend. I had a facebook memory this week from 9 years ago when we went to London together and posed at the 9 3/4th wall in Kings Cross.

Happy Anniversary. It's hard to believe that I've been here on and off for over 15½ years. I've always loved the "small town/small business" vibe that the site has, and how it's been able to maintain that rapport for over a decade. I love that inclusivity and diversity have always been a priority from the very beginning, both from a social aspect and woven into the fabric of the World itself. Happy anniversary!! I'm so glad I found out about this site. I love so many things its hard to pick one but I will say the genderless pet options/fountain and the canonically non binary and queer characters, as well as the art styles.
I have complex PTSD and struggle with overwhelm, this site feels like a comforting corner to curl up in. I think this site has helped as much as the ADHD med and my shift to international dramas. That probably sounds weird but it really has helped me.

17!!! Subeta is almost out of it's awkward teen years. Can't believe I've been a member for 15 of those.
The artwork has always been something I love about the site. There are items that I literally don't want to stop looking at. I've been inspired by HA making to help with character creation. The freedom for customizing pet and user profiles is also such a wonderful aspect of the site!

I love the art! The massive variety of items, which are fun and cute (and have also taught me about different world cuisines, types of flowers, other random things useful for game show answers!). How open-minded it feels here so that people can be themselves. I like that I can just do quiet things here. The amount of pets you can have, so I can make a pet for lots of different people/things important to me. So ta very much, here's to many more years :)

This is probably one of the very few avatar sites I've come across that still has admins who work hard to benefit the community and takes time to listen to their concerns even if it may be very abrupt and harsh. While it's not the biggest or most active community as most avi sites are these days I still will support Subeta for the years to come and thank the staff team for doing all that they do here. There are many ups and downs here but there is certainly progress and recognition of past errors which I can acknowledge the recognition to move forward.
I've met so many people on this site that have been nothing but friendly and open and overall just really great to speak to. I don't have many friends here but I do cherish all that have taken the time to get to know me a bit.

What I love about Subeta, and have since I originally joined, is the (relatively) small but supportive and wonderful community that has gathered here over the years. It seems so much more rare to find that anywhere you go these days, so I'm glad to always have this place to escape to.
