Forum Groups got a big update 🏘️
Forum Groups have been on my list for a long time. A lot of group features got started years ago and never finished, so I cleared those out and rebuilt the parts people actually seem to use.

The Groups page is a lobby now. Your groups are at the top, each with when it last had a post. The board in the middle shows groups that are recruiting, plus groups that have been busy this week even if they haven't put up a notice.
If you run a group, you can pin a recruiting notice to that board. Say how many people you're looking for or leave the door open, pick up to four things the group is into, set an age range, and say when you're usually around. A notice stays up for 30 days, and once a week you can bump it to put it back at 30. While it's up, players outside your age range can't join (it goes by the birthday on their account).

If joining your group needs an admin's approval, you can add up to three questions to the notice. People answer them when they ask to join, and you see the answers right next to their request.
Looking for a group instead? There's a little quiz on the side of the lobby. Pick what you like doing, how chatty you want it, and whether you want a place to hang out or pings for restocks, then hit Deal me in and it deals you your best matches. The group finder has every filter if you want to dig.

Groups come in two kinds now. Clubs are for hanging out and have their own forums. Alert lists are mostly for pings, like restock and CW announcement groups, and they get their own shelf so you can find them without wading through clubs.

Owners can pick an icon and a color for their group. When someone pings your group, your icon shows up in place of the #.

Group pages use the same editor as the forums, so sCode and Markdown both work and you can preview before you save. Each page can be open to anyone, members only, or admins only.

Invite-only groups can send invites that last two weeks, and you can hide a group from every list and search if you want it kept quiet. Owners can make members admins, and admins can approve requests and send invites.

Group vaults are being retired, so they don't take deposits anymore. If your group still has sP in its vault, an admin can move it into their own account from the group page. This was a wonky feature that encouraged adding/removing to do Sarah quests, and meant that a lot of groups were created just to do that, and that isn't something I want to encourage!
If you honestly used the bank for more than that (like paying out contests, or pooling group money to buy something big) let me know and I'll consider changing this decision!

If a group's owner hasn't been on in six months, an active admin can ask to take it over. If there's no active admin, any member who's been in the group at least 360 days can ask. The owner gets a week to log in and keep it. If they don't, they stay on as an admin. If more than one person asks, the group's members vote. Owners can turn this off in their group's settings, and it starts off for hidden, invite-only and friends-only groups.
Mostly there are a few load bearing ping groups that I'd love to see have active stewardship!

If you have a minute, go through your groups and look at the ones you haven't opened in a while. Leave the ones you're done with. If you own a group nobody uses anymore, you can delete it from its settings once the vault is empty. If an old group of yours went quiet, a recruiting notice is a good way to get people back in. And if you're in a group whose owner is long gone, you can ask to take it over.
There's a feedback box at the top of the recruiting pages, and I'm reading the comments here too. Tell me what's working and what isn't!

Nooo don't retire the group bank! At Unique we truly used it to fund activity, birthday, anniversary, and other kind of event prizes! @Keith

I get closing the loop for Sarah's quests and all, but the Questathon point does remain. I do hope before that comes back again, it too is rethought as it does give a huge advantage to people with gold accounts and people who can flip between Sarah and Sagittarius easily. However the Questathon is reconstructed, it should be done in a way that everyone is on an even playing field (maybe Sarah and Sagittarius don't count, maybe there's a daily cap, maybe an underused NPC actually hosts the quests for the Thon rather than the usual givers to level the playing field).
Anyway, again, thanks for all the life in Subeta recently.

Yes #chic did use the sp and shop feature for prizes and fundraising. Even when cults were just that essentially and the forums didn't work and everyone used our own privately hosted forums we still used the cult bank and gallery and shop. If I could have a shop where when I empty the til it immediately deposits into the club bank that would be amazing
And does Sarah still have a sp cap? Maybe not really worth it at this stage in subeta's life I imagine most users are well established 10+ yr old accounts
oh and sorry is the custom ping design supposed to show up in events tab? it just looks like every other ping to me.
Finally i do have more thoughts and agree a lot with what Athena said nd could add my own. I think some of my fellow chic admin/members could also shed some perspective about what made ours successful and the tools we utilized or wished we had

Maybe I can't find it (or maybe it is different on mobile, I am not at my desktop yet), but is there a page where we can view all of the groups we are in and not just a list of their names? The image and # ping help me remember what they were for far more than the name itself. It would also be nice on that page to be able to sort just the ones we own/admin in, or other such tags. Popping back into that page it says I am in 158 groups and I'd really reather not click them all individually to find out what they were for, how active they are, who runs it and all that jazz. Forum groups really needed some love so this update is amazing~ I am excited to find some groups or make some, but... maybe after I sort through the untouched list ;u;

@Keith I'd liked using the forum banks as like... a "savings account" (shop till and sP rewards from doing quests) when I didn't want to touch the set amount I always left in my vault. is there any chance that we can get something like that in the future (that would obviously still count towards your sP amount for sarah/saggi)?

Gosh, Keith you have been busy. Thank you for always taking care of this site and thanks for the CSC.

I keep forgetting the groups I'm so I'm wondering if maybe the subsection for them could move up to the top of the forums instead of being stuck at the bottom where it's easy to forget to check in?

I think being able to list a specific range is a bit odd? I think "all ages, over 18, over 21, over 30, over 40, over 50" could work. Like there's one group that says ages 18-99 when "over 18" would work just fine lol.
I also don't know if it would be wise to be able to filter for anything under 18? As Synth brought up, it's not as if we can verify ages.
For the issue of vault hoarding: maybe the sP vault can only be made an option for groups with five or more people? That way, individuals making groups specifically for Sarah's quests can't take advantage of it. Or, at least, it'll be a bigger roadblock.

Since deleting a group alerts members of the group, can there be an option to add a message, maybe an option to link to a new group of yours or to someone else's?

I havent looked into it much yet, but before I forget I wanted to say -
My group does have a large pool of sP that doesnt seem to get used, but come Lumi, we are able to do secret santa and our own little "random events" that hit our members with things from their wishlist that is all funded by pooled money in the "guild bank" from during the year... So, yes, having that feature taken away would affect my group, a lot.

If I did start a group having an item vault and a currency vault would be awesome. Especially during events like Lumi. I can understand the issue with the Sarah quest and wanting the Sarah quest to be just for beginners. Though it is also nice when I've spent everything I have because it is a nice boost to rebuilding my sP. With all the changes to the quest system why not put more or different limits on Sarah quests then the one currently in place. It would be nice if we could enjoy them once in a while to remember the beginning but doing them everyday isn't reasonable.

I know this was made to replace cults and that at the time it was said they would never return....
Is there any chance that may change now? OR will groups get future updates to include things like being able to set up (for example) giveaways where items can be put in a queue/pool and members can win them through various means?
Could do similar with the sP but cap out how much can be put in to avoid the Sarah quest bypassing aspect.
There are a lot of ways we could make groups/cults/whatever really fun with little additions that groups can run outside of just forum tools. One day - maybe?
AND this is not to discredit all the recent changes or the ones in this news post. I'm just shooting my shot since I've been hoping for a good system for a long time and only a few sites seem to come close to scratching that itch.

I understand that some people may feel they have use cases for an upper limit on the age range but it still feels a bit mean and unnecessary here. This isn't a dating site where age is particularly relevant, nor an exclusively children's site; I just feel weird about it, ok. I'll grant that maybe an "18 and under" option could be reasonable to have too but I think making a space like that on the internet is perhaps questionable since it's not like it can really be enforced (unless we're going to have ID verification here, and you know what, let's not).

If you leave the age range blank, it will make it have an "all ages" tag. That's what I did for Finesse.

@Synth
I think the age range feature is helpful for people who are looking for others who are at similar stages in life and so may be dealing with similar issues that can make them more relatable. So maybe senior players are looking for other seniors to talk to, or maybe folks reaching their mid-life (30s/40s) are looking for others at that same life stage.

" Not allowing people over a given age is uh, kinda ageist"
No, I think it's fair that minors do not want to talk to people that are 20+ years than them. If people feel safer hanging around people their own age, that's very fair.

Haven't had time to check it out thoroughly yet between TOTing, Patching and Battling but will later. Wondering if we will get a rag doll achievement this year. I think a previous year it was somehow missed and had to be added later. Thanks.
I thought people only stashed away sP during Questathons (I'm assuming those aren't coming back), I had no idea people were doing this regularly. Heck, I completely forgot I had a group. I'll keep it because who knows, I might not be the only fan of the awesome South Korean all-women rock band Rolling Quartz.

I also really love @Avel 's suggestion of having an item vault. Right now, members donate items via the gift center but I have to wait till I clear my inventory, which can be a whole thing. It would be cool if there could be a notification to admins when a member sends in items, so I know who to thank, and an option to send anonymously for those who prefer to be anonymous.
I would like it in addition to the sP vault still, but I understand if it is not feasible.

I love the new recruitment section! As well as the new options like choosing an icon for the group.

I have a ping group for art coms when they're open. When I search the art option it doesn't show up. Is that option only for 'chatty' club groups? Or is there a way for me to add tags so it shows up? Sorry i'm not sure if I'm missing something in the settings. Just want to make sure I'm searchable c: so far I can't find a way to find my art shop without already having the tag.

Thank you so much for these updates! This is really cool. I have posted a recruiting notice for our group, Finesse, and it seemed to work well.
@Keith Yeah, I do use the sP vault to buy prizes for our contests and art challenges and for a way for members to donate to the group when they just have a lot of sP to give and not that many items. I would be sad to see it go. But I understand it, if it is necessary, of course

I just wanted to say thank you Keith and Staff for all these latest QOL and changes to the site!! I'm enjoying all these updates and changes and I'm very much looking forward to seeing how Subeta continues to grow and change. I'll take a look at what forum groups I am in - maybe I'll join a new one.

The "age range" thing strikes me as a bit weird. I already see a group listed with an upper limit that would exclude some members here. I think it would be more reasonable to just be able to designate your group "18 and over" or maybe "21 and over" or something like that if you just want adults or want to talk about alcohol all day or something. Not allowing people over a given age is uh, kinda ageist.

@o0SnowyOwl0o Sarahs' quests are for newbies. They're specifically geared to help people with low sP by providing higher benefits than other quests, and hte intention is really that only people who need to do them to get started do them. All of the quirks and ways that people have gotten around that are really getting around the intention of the quest.
I noticed the vault thing before. While my group didn't need a sP vault, I would personally like to see an item vault for that can be used for giveaways. A lot of groups do giveaways, and the sP vaults helped fund that, but if people could donate items instead, then you still have an avenue for giveaways while also closing up the loophole for Sarah's quests.

most of these (like this one) have just been sitting in a branch for like 5 months and just required me to do the annoying final steps work

Ok, so what do we do if we want to do Sarah's quests but can't due to too much sP? Can we empty our sP into our vault and do her quests or maybe into a shop till? Having to be perpetually poor for Sarah is odd especially for those who save sP for holiday time 😅

man these last few weeks have been like christmas on here thank you keith and staff for working so hard
