Friends,

I don't feel like we talk enough. You call and I never answer. That's about to change.

Simply put, you are Subeta's biggest asset. We could have the fanciest rewrite, the most brilliant minds in programming, the best server setup, but without you there wouldn't be any reason. It has always been in our best interest to keep you as informed as possible, and this is something we have been neglecting to do lately. Keith Answers! was a step in the right direction, but we can do better. We’re going to try and fix that right now.

Things have been pretty exciting internally, recently! Over the last few days, we have shifted our focus, and changed the staff around. We've also moved to an entirely new server setup, which should cause fewer problems and give you a more enjoyable experience with Subeta, overall. Instead of working to keep the site alive, we can work on things that are important. Fixing bugs, adding new features, and finishing the rewrite.

I'm sure you'll notice that I mentioned the rewrite last in that sentence. A lot of you believe that the rewrite is some sort of myth, or that it is never going to happen. It will happen, and it is still being worked on by the entire programming team. However, instead of telling you that our current problems will be fixed in the rewrite, we are shifting our focus to the site that you use everyday, to make it more playable now, not later. Taking on something as large as the rewrite has taught me, personally, that you can't redo four years of hard work in a few months. Subeta is just as real as any of us, and it should be treated that way. I've found out that I can't ignore the real site, just to work on the rewrite, and I can't focus only on the main site and put the rewrite on the back burner. There has to be balance, and from this point forward there will be. Expect more announcements on the rewrite in general, as well as more serious testing in the future.

We understand you want a time line. You want a date that the rewrite will be finished. I've done this before, and ended up being months off. The rewrite is a work in progress, that you will be able to constantly check on. From this point onward, I'll be giving regular status updates on the rewrite, which should give you a clear picture of its progress and make you feel much better about it. Hopefully, we can remove this feeling that it's just a myth!

I also mentioned Subeta being on new servers! You can find more information about our setup in the near future. Based on our experiences over the last four years, we have worked hard to come up with a perfect solution that works now, and also allows us to continue growing and pushing forward later.

Of course, we aren't going to be pushing forward only in the programming department. The user administration department is also going to be getting a huge update soon, which will be something for every user. The department is starting to feel the weight of four years of creating rules, and changing rules. We’ve added a rule whenever something has gone wrong, but you can't really find them, or know what that rule is, until you're warned for it. It’s unfair to both you as users, and to our administration team that has to hunt down the rules that need to be enforced as well! That's why in the near future we will be pruning out certain rules that we feel should be determined by you, the community. Who are we to decide if you are offended by something?

This leads into the new reputation system. A few of our veterans might remember that this is something we've played with in the past. I think this new system will really be revolutionary for any site of our magnitude. This reputation system will be deeply rooted in the forums, and will essentially let you wear the moderator pants. You won't be able to see your reputation 'score', or that of any other users. You will, however, have the option to give a good or bad reputation rating to any forum, thread, or post. Depending on how much and what kind of reputation you've been given by your peers, you could be the one who locks the board, and hides it from other users. Do you find a user’s particular post offensive? Give it negative reputation.

This puts the power of moderation in your hands, and leaves our user administrators free to deal with the meatier account support issues. We don't need to lock or delete topics that don't offend anyone, or make them upset. I personally feel like it's a huge step for any site to take, and I'm glad that we're the ones taking it.

Now, I want to invite you to help us improve our site. We have added the July 2008 Bug Fix category to the Suggestion Center. We want you to submit one (one per person, please!) bug that affects your everyday usage of Subeta. Something that annoys you more than anything else. Before you run off to make this bug report, please check that category and see if it's already been reported. The more time we spend sorting through them, the less time we have to actually fix them!

You may think that you're powerless or that you have very little impact on Subeta, but in reality you are all the driving force behind Subeta. If we make a change that does not agree with the whole community, we are usually quick to change it back, or make it better. You're creative when we aren't, and you're quick to think of how to improve something. That's why I'd like to point you to the suggestion center, which is ALWAYS open for your ideas. If you think of something that you think would be perfect for the (shh!) hidden island, don't hesitate to suggest it. Your fellow users appreciate this kind of creativity, as it gives them more to do as well.

Before we go, I'd like to remind you that Subeta is 100% user supported. Today we added a small unobtrusive text ad to the top of the forums. This small advertisement will help support the site in the near future, and we understand your concern about ads. I hate them as much (or more) as the next person, and am proud that Subeta is usually able to be supported without advertisements. We also don't sell your information to third parties. The cash shop paves the way for new programmers, new hardware, payment for the User Admins who help you from day to day, and help with the planning of future projects. We rely on your purchases, and at this time of growth and expansion it is going to be more important than ever. I know that we've had a lot of downtime lately, and you're probably hesitant to put down any amount of money; however I'm hoping that everyone realizes the impact that these changes are going to have. We feel confident, based on the changes we have already made, that you will not be disappointed. You can still help in other ways, too! Link to Subeta from your blog, or facebook/myspace. Bringing in new users is just as important as raising funds.

I'm sure that some of you are thinking you'd prefer this to be a youtube segment, with us talking face to face (so to speak). However, I feel that a medium that 100% of the users can see, and intake is the best for this type of message. However, I'm inviting you to go here where you can ask questions related to this announcement, and a special Keith answers segment will be dedicated to them.

Thank you for all of your support and understanding. Over the past four years I have grown a lot, and so has Subeta and its staff. I hope that we can spend many more years growing together.

Wow, how immature of them. They're acting like little kids about it. Anyway, we still support you. ^^
Suggestion Center keeps telling me Please enter tags. Can someone please smail me to let me know how to add a suggestion? Thanks if you do.

Yay
I don't mind a small ad, as long as it doesn't get out of hand, like neopets. <img src="http://www.subeta.ws/images/smilies/6398_emoticon_grin.gif" border="0" />
You're definitely one of the friendliest guys I know, and I don't exactly know you personally! XD

Thanks Keith. We're all supporting you and the rest of the subeta team =D

BlackxZodiac - It's this site, not the other. Keith is on this site, .ws, and the news posts on .org from Keith are only there because .org has the same news posts as .ws... I think. Keith can explain it better but... the answer is, go to .ws and not to .org.
I'm sorry if anyone's asked this and has been answered, but so is it this site again? We stay on .org? What about .ws? I'm sorry, I'm kinda confused, is Keith back on .org? I got so scared I stopped going to either, not knowing where I was supposed to be, is it this one now? .org? Thanks if you answer.
I would just like to say thank you Keith and staff for being so personal with us players, that's what makes this site so different than the rest<img src="http://www.subeta.ws/images/smilies/6398_emoticon_grin.gif" border="0" />
I'll drink to that. 8D
Who wants to summarize that big thing for me?

Wow, Keith. Just... wow. I read all that, and I was absolutely blown away by your dedication to Subeta and to its users. My girlfriend and I were both Neopets users before our discovery of Subeta, and... quite honestly, I can't even log onto the site anymore. I'm so bothered by the site now, logging on to feed my pets started to feel like a chore.

Subeta is the exact opposite of Neopets in that regard. You absolutely astound me with the sheer... personalness, I guess, of Subeta. You really try hard to make the users feel listened to and understood.

I have little feedback for you other than that, though. All of the plans you've made mention of sound terrific to me, but I have no particular comments or suggestions otherwise. Except for one thing: I recommend making another news post detailing the reputation system. I know you've posted a reply in the news comments, but many people probably haven't read it, and it seems to me that it ought to be very visible so that users know you understand their concerns.

Wow, thanks! I would just love to give all of you great big hugs! You've all done amazing work on this site, and have made big impacts on millions of lives! I love all of you! <img src="http://www.subeta.ws/images/smilies/6398_emoticon_heart.gif" border="0" />

Ahhh yes, love the sound of many more years of Subeta!
When can we start using the forum reputation, please?????

XD I think it's brilliant. Thank you Keith and Staff, this post really made my day, and I'm glad you guys are working hard, it means a lot.
Very nicely said. Thank you Sir Keith and Staff. bows
Kieth and the Team: I adore you all. Please keep making me (us!) smile! Whenever Subeta is down, I'm always clicking back with a big sense of longing. But I never get TOO down because I know that so many people are working on it! Thank you all for being who you are! ^__^

awwww <img src="http://67.225.157.254/images/smilies/6398_emoticon_smile.gif" border="0" /> keithyourgreat, and so are the rest of the staff for this awesome website!
I'm sure this has been said several times already on this News post, but it's so very refreshing to see a site that cares about its users. So cheers for that <3
Userbase loves you. 8D
And so .org is yours too?
Thanks a lot, Keith. This is really what I needed to see. I was totally down in the dumps about Subeta, and how so much has happened, since it was hacked then down and up then broken and I was so confused and frustrated over it, but hearing that something IS actually being done has made me pleased in the best way. Keith, you're the best owner of a site one could have, and I'm proud to have someone as great as you managing someone with a site as great as this.

I love the forum reputation idea, I think it's a lot of fun and something that will give us the welcoming feel of moderator(Which I'd love to be), which some of us don't get to have the pleasure of feeling.

Like earlier comments have stated, everyone was waiting for this announcement, and I'm glad you're FINALLY deciding to give us actual, honest-to-God updates. That's the main thing I wanted, what really drove me up the wall - never any updates, and when they were, it wasn't full of information and left me confused.

Sorry for the long comment, thanks a lot Keith and Staff! You guys are the best. <img src="http://67.225.157.254/images/smilies/6398_emoticon_grin.gif" border="0" />
I LOVED the reputation system, thanks for bringing it back!

I can guarantee that I'll have a terrible reputation.
And I'll be just fine with that! =D

Atleast now when I say +1 rep, I can mean it. XD
Holy crap that was a huge post XDDD

Anyway.. Words cannot say how much I love this site and its staff. Neopets left me with a bad taste in my mouth (Coming back from two weeks gone and my account with five warnings for stuff I couldn't have done) and I was hesitant to join Subeta at first, because I thought it was the same. Needless to say (As I've been here three years!) I was pleasantly surprised. I feel a site's success lies a lot on its staff members, and the ones I've seen here are awesome. So thank you 'Beta staff (including those who have left for various reasons) for making this site awesome. ILU. <333
I think TNT :K should learn from you a lot of things, especially how to keep relations with users.
Words can't describe how much you guys rule... <img src="http://67.225.157.254/images/smilies/6398_emoticon_heart.gif" border="0" />
The reputation thing could be bad because of gang-ups, but it seems like an okay idea to test out... :3
I'm glad to see that you're not like many site owners who are more concerned about making a profit, to name one, and not their members and their opinions. I'm sure everyone here appreciates your honesty in letting the users know what's going to happen, and letting them have a say in the way the site is built, because I've seen a lot of websites that will be drastically changed without any opinions or say from it's user. To put it plainly I don't think many people appreciate that. But I'm glad that the users here get to be active in how the site develops and get to share their own personal thoughts on it; and thus the site can be made with the users' opinions in mind so that they're satisfied. It keeps a good balance of what they want to be done, and what needs to be done, you could say.
Anyway, I won't go on about that. I appreciate how dedicated you and the subeta team are to the site and it's members, and the work you have done on it so far. You've done a spectacular job.
United we stand, divided we fall! Good job!

Wow, I was amazed by the dedication of Keith and crew before, but now...you guys are the absolute best team I'm ever known. I feel like I'm not just a number here, unlike other sites *cough*gaiaandneopets*cough*, and that what I say and do here has a real impact. I adore the user reputation idea. I think it will be great and cut down on n00bism on the site. I also like the time line idea for the rewrite - although I'm not worried, I know you guys will get to it. I'm just totally in awe with this crew right now. Subeta is really a home away from home and I didn't think I could love it anymore than I already do, but somehow I do love it more. Thanks a ton to Keith! And to all the other staff! You guys really make this a great place.
Mod
I think that is the longest explanation post I have ever seen on this site. Thank-you.
Thank you for taking the time to explain everything, it means a lot and shows how dedicated you are to the users <img src="http://67.225.157.254/images/smilies/6398_emoticon_smile.gif" border="0" />
oh blushes should have proff read that craph was supose to be the word sight...
Were proud of you and your great staff Keith for standing up for your great Subeta game craph. Too bad other rotten people like to try to benifit from all your hard work. So glad your all on it and keeping ahead of them. Love the new pet buddies list we can make now to. Love all your new ideas to make this game sight so orignal.
Aww Keith's so sweet. =3 I'm happy he wants to involve us more. I see a happy Subeta in the future. ^^

This really put a huge smile on my face. It's good to be in the know with these things--even if it was a bit delayed.

I love Subeta and I feel that that love has been dwindling away for it in the past months. <img src="http://67.225.157.254/images/smilies/smiley_sadface.gif" border="0" /> Hopefully this is the turnaround point.

The reason we love subeta. <3
My two cents on the rewrite: hey, no rush or hurry. I love this place and am willing to wait, we'd rather have a healthy keith who doesn't fall off his chair because he's missing two weeks of sleep than a rewrite 3 days sooner than planned. x3 It's not like we would all run away just because, like, the rewrite isn't done in the next 3 months or something. I love subeta for many more reasons than just its layout and coding, and I'm sure most users feel the same way.
lulz, the funny thing is, I was like, 'oh no you didn't!' when i first read this on .org (is ender still taking over there?) but when I came here and saw it, I was like, 'yaay!I <3 youkeith' XD

Thank you but I can't post in the bug section you mentioned. Dx
Guess my wardrobe bug won't be fixed ;_;
See, /this/ is why I love you.
Thank you, Keith.
This is the Subeta we all know and love. <img src="http://67.225.157.254/images/smilies/6398_emoticon_smile.gif" border="0" /> Thank you.

Maybe the forum rep should be removed from the Debate forum - like some people said, it could get a little bit out of hand. :S

Woah. Alot of great stuff coming through from that. Thanks Keith. I'm looking forward to Forum Reputation.
