reating the perfect mustache is easier said than done. And even when you've done it, it is never done. There does not exist one perfect mustache that fits all ages and head shapes.

I'm not even 400 yet and I must have gone through hundreds of different styles. I used to change mustache styles with the same enthusiasm that Kusajishi-san has when going through steamed pork buns. In fact, the idea of growing a mustache was suggested to me by Yoruichi-dono. She said that I needed another hobby besides blowing up her gardens with my spells.
..Which is a false accusation. Urahara-dono was the one blowing up gardens. It was not my fault he couldn't aim in those days.

I thought it was an excellent idea. But the art of facial hair is not to be underestimated, and I found out the hard way. Those early days were trying times.











In the beginning, before the mustache, I thought I would try a beard.



But Yoruichi-dono laughed at me.

And then I shaved and began the arduous task of fashioning a mustache.
It took me three hours, and lots of gel, but I was quite proud when I showed it to Urahara-dono.



He looked at the bottle of gel and said, "This isn't gel. It's my prototype plant food."



It took some time for my facial hair to return.



And Yoruichi-dono laughed at me.


I despaired at my task. I thought I would never meet anyone with the same dilemma as I had. Yoruichi-dono did not get facial hair and Urahara-dono did not get enough.

And then one day it seemed that I had luck on my side. I met my vice-captain. It was meant to be.

His mustache was glorious. By the time I met him I had already gone through numerous styles, but I was still an amateur. When I saw how well his bushy mustache fit the shape of his head, I knew I was in the presence of a genius! In exchange for kidou lessons, he gave me mustache tips.

It never occurs to people to think of the thought that I put into my mustache. No one appreciates art anymore.
