Modi was born just a year after Magni, to Thor and the Jotunn Jarnsaxa. As soon as he was old enough to be weaned, both boys went to live with Thor full time, as they were too much of a handful for Jarnsaxa alone, and she was too wild of a spirit to be tied down. Modi grew up wrestling and play fighting with his brother, and was nearly as strong as him.

Thor got married to Sif when Modi was still quite young. Sif had a son of her own named Ullr, however Ullr wasn't interested in play fighting with Modi and Magni. Modi couldn't understand why not. When Sif got pregnant shortly thereafter, Modi was hoping it would be another boy to play with. Instead it was a little girl. But as that girl grew up she was just as wild as her brothers and would wrestle and play fight right along with them. She wasn't quite as strong as Modi, but she was stronger than any girl he knew.

Modi was extroverted and loved to party and drink with the best of them. But he could be a bit abrasive. The girls seemed to prefer Magni to him, which made him jealous(as if he didn't have enough to be jealous about, for he thought Thor favored Magni by giving him Gullfaxi), but it was a mild jealousy accompanied by an inferiority complex. Besides, Magni was a good wingman, and would often share women with Modi(somtimes at the same time). Thrud, his younger sister, also proved to be a good wingman, and helped him get laid too. That's how close the children of Thor were.

Modi lives in his father's hall yet, and spends most of his time going out raiding. He's not much interested in farming, like his brother is. He just wants to fight and sleep around.

He's completely unaware of Ragnarok and the doom it will bring, but it was foretold by an ancient Volva that he would be one of the few survivors of Ragnarok.
