Jacob is a veteran captain of the seas. Born to a bar maid & a fisherman, he started life on the port unloading fish from ships and working part time at the tavern. Day in and day out, he grew ill of the dock. With enough gold and some friends, they saved to purchase their own sailing vessel. Off they went.
In Jacob's young years, his father littered him with tall tales of mermaids and sirens. This excited him immensely, crediting these tales to be why he left. In all his years on the sea, he's seen more krakens than he's ever seen any mermaids. Yet, he does not give up so easily.
Many years later, as he sailed to search once again, he came across the Fire Isles. This was not the first time yet one of many. The volcano was still, but the coast was lined with ships he had never seen before. They were accosted with the fire elemental's triangular insignia of flames. Jacob swallowed hard, feeling a pit in his throat. Over the stormy, dark seas of the Fire Isles, he saw a ball of flames hurdling towards his ship. Quickly, he abandoned it with a sail boat, making it out alive. He floated himself to the nearest shore, letting out word from the Isles for the first time in months:
"They've gotten themselves ships that won't burn."
