Alexandria never really seemed to have a family. She was born to a whore, and a ranch-hand. Her father never knew about her, as her mother went into hiding whilst pregnant, and gave the baby to an orphanage as soon as she was born to that she might return to work. When she was younger, she didn't care that her parent didn't want her, for she enjoyed growing up with a bunch of other children. She enjoyed playing with them all. And she loved the old woman who cared for them all.

As she got older, she spent much of her time with the old woman, helping her to cook large meals for all of the orphanage children. Alex learned a lot from the woman, about not only cooking, but also about life in general. Alex learned of her past, and how she came to be at the orphanage. She learned that her mother had died from Syphilis, six years after dropping her off at the old woman's door. As for her father, the old woman could tell her nothing, for she did not know.

Alex loved the old woman, and stayed at the orphanage even past the age of sixteen, to help her with the children and the cooking, and to help take care of the old woman herself, as she was growing weaker. When Alex was seventeen, the old woman had died. The orphanage was taken over by the woman's closest living relative, her nephew. He didn't seem to really care for the children, or the duty. In an effort to try to save money, he began kicking out all the children who were old enough to care for themselves, Alex was among those who was to be kicked out.

Alex, wanting to continue helping the children as the old woman had done, begged the man to let her stay, arguing that she could be of great use to him in the upkeep of the orphanage. The man, who was ugly and rude, and had never been married for these reasons, finally decided that Alex could stay there, that she could be of use, and not just for the children but also himself. Though Alex did not like him, she had no money, and no where else to go, and felt trapped into the arrangement. So, she would let him do as he liked to her.

For three years she lived like this, and helplessly watched as the orphanage fell to ruins at the man's lack of care. The children, who were once so lively and happy were now frightened of being beaten, depressed, and many were ill. They were forced to make clothing and shoes, which the man would sell and make a profit on.

One day, while out walking the streets, she met a girl named Surah, who was looking for a parts shop for her ship. Alex led the way, and began talking with Surah. She learned that Surah was an engineer aboard an Independent Air Ship, and that she and her crewmates were landed there until she could fix it. After placing an order for the parts she needed, Surah, who was lonely for female companionship, invited Alex to come see their ship.

Alex fell in love with the ship immediately, imagining it taking her away from that horrible man forever. She asked Surah if she might join them, and Surah seemed thrilled at the idea. However, the captain, her brother, did not. They didn't need a useless person taking cargo space and eating what little food they had. But, Alex was stubborn and determined, and explained that she could clean and cook for them. Finally, mostly due to Surah's begging, Nate agreed.

Alex was thrilled, and immediately cooked up a great meal for the crew, as a way to say thanks. Her meal had sealed the deal, for the crew had been living off MREs and terrible tasting concoctions. But, as they ate and praised her meal, Alex began to feel guilty for leaving all the children in the hands of that horrible man. Knowing the ship would be grounded for a week, she returned to the orphanage. When the man came to her the next evening, she killed him with a kitchen knife. Alex then dragged his body out to a nearby alley, and stole his money to make it look like a robbery gone wrong.

The next day the town sheriff came to the orphanage. He hadn't even thought that Alex had a hand in the man's death, he came to check on the children and was appalled by what he saw. The very next day, the sheriff brought a couple to the orphanage, and they had agreed to take care of it. This couple could not have children of their own, and they were a very nice couple. They immediately started to clean the orphanage up, and care for the children. Knowing the children would be well taken care of, Alex finally took her leave, and joined the crew of the IAS Windrunner. They left before the sheriff could even suspect that Alex might have killed the man. To this day, it is a secret that Alex holds onto tightly, not even telling her crewmates.

I can't cook like this! I need more spices!

Cogwork_334
Spices don't cost much! Will you please talk to the Captain?

Surah
Yeah, I suppose cooking and tinkering are alike when you put it that way.

Zajac_242
You flatter me! I'll cook you anything you want, hon.

Ophelya_716
Well, cooking isn't as intense as being a doctor. But, thank-you.

Taiberius
I'm just your average girl, nothin' special about me.
