Taiberius Grines is a mercenary, that is his job and his personality all rolled into one. Taiberius is trustworthy as long as you are paying him enough to stick around. At least that is the impression that he tries to give off, but sometimes his actions suggest otherwise. Since being aboard the IAS Windrunner, Taiberius has developed a respect for Nathan Alloway, and will stick by him even when more money is offered.

Taiberius is fond of guns, and shooting them, and shooting other people with them. He takes a great interest in weaponry and its usage, storage, and even history. He's not proficient in a lot of things, but he knows about his weapons, especially his guns. He takes pride in them, and treats them as equals. Tai keeps a large arsenal of weapons in his bunk on the IAS Windrunner, his favorite being a Kalashnikov with a customized trigger, adjustable and collapsible stock, hand guard, flash adapter, and flashlight, which he named Veronika. Tai is good in a fight. He often reacts before he thinks on many occasions, which can be both a good and a bad thing. He has a good sense of danger, and is usually the first to raise an accurate warning about impending peril.

Taiberius is described as a man with less subtlety than a sledgehammer, and even fewer brains. Although he oftentimes appears stupid, he's got his own particular wit. Mostly, Tai just doesn't think when relating to other people much of the time. He seems to embody foot-in-mouth disease. That said, Tai is probably rude to a lot of folk. He's crude, yes, that can't be ignored, but he's real truthsome, and he doesn't have that fear of repercussions for what he says, so he says what comes to his mind. Tai is the man who will ask the questions that no one else wants to.

As a criminal it's hard to judge what kind of a moral compass he has. Living a hard life as a mercenary who's been double-crossed in the past, Tai is willing to sell you out for a price. Of course, the longer he gets to know you, the more he comes to like you, the higher that price gets, because he is still human, and there is something about a relationship, a bond, that is hard to put a price on. Once you've gained his trust, and you're a part of his 'family', he's extremely dedicated and loyal.

All in all Tai is a good guy who does bad things for good reasons. He's been caught up in an awful sort that he could have probably done without, and he knows and bears that guilt as he should.

Taiberius never knew his father, who ran out on his 'Ma' when he was a baby. Being a single mother to both his older brother and he, his Ma was the image of love and compassion, as well as discipline and firm action. Both he and his older brother, Clemence(or Clem), worked hard on their small ranch, which was far out in Independent Territory. Neither child was able to go to school, as they were needed to tend the ranch and keep the family afloat.

Tai's mother died of Diphtheria when he was fourteen years of age, leaving his older brother by four years to raise him. It was a rough living, but the boys managed for several years. Eventually though, Clem was tricked out of their land by a man named Jeb. Clem protested the injustice, but Jeb had him murdered – a crime that was blatantly ignored by law enforcement. Tai vowed revenge, no matter how long it took, or if he would die in the process.

With no previous work experience except that on the family farm, Tai had no assets other than his size. He worked for a few months in the industrial district, doing heavy lifting and the like. He was able to raise money for a few good weapons before the company bottomed out. After the company bottomed out, Tai wandered the city at night, trifling with women who he found attractive but never settling down, only having his fun and moving on, since he wasn't out for settling down. One night he got into a brawl with a few men, and beat them all out. A man took notice, and offered him a job as a body guard of-sorts. Knowing it would get him closer to his goal, which was to avenge his brother, Tai didn't see why not, and he was pulled into a world he didn't even knew existed... the place where street-rats are kings and everyone else is either a buyer or a seller.

His new employer paid him well, and Tai soon found out why; his boss was hated among many as he got the better deals and the most money. Tai didn't mind, as he was learning the business, and learning how to fight and live in this world. Tai fought off a lot of people trying to get to his new boss, shot a few and got into fistfights with the best of them. Once in a while he would fight against others for money, but only as a side job, and only when he felt like it. He worked out to keep his shape, and was stronger than a lot of the people he encountered. Granted, he was not the strongest out there, but still pretty strong.

It was a good time, and Tai, while he was the best at what he did, sometimes got duped by his boss's other lackies; on more than one occasion he was cheated out of extra money, and he didn't stand for that. He started drinking and his new life made him slightly bitter, but as long as the pay was good he didn't mind. Eventually, though, all good things have to end, and in one particular job he was left for dead(though he wasn't actually dead).

Tai, now without a job, looked for the new boss. He was hired as a mercenary and quickly rose through the ranks, as he was the best shot of anyone 'round, the fastest draw, the meanest punch, and the no-frills attitude that just make a henchmen irreplaceable. At around nineteen, Tai really began his obsession with weaponry. Guns, beautiful guns, but not just guns, there were always other types of weapons to admire. He began fervently searching for and collecting the best weapons, researching them in his spare time. After a few months, he really began to amass a decent variety of colorful ways to kill people. Work - for a mercenary, anyway - was steady. Several people tried to kill him, but he just killed them right back.

For five years he bounced from employer to employer, taking whichever jobs paid more. His loyalty always sided with those who were offering the most cash. When he happened to overhear Nathan and Rem talk of a plot against Jeb, Tai couldn't help butting in, and offering his service. At first, they had no interest in Tai, but Tai dug his claws in and let them know they needed him for this job, as he knew more about Jeb than they did, and said they didn't even need to pay him. Eventually, they agreed. During the job, they realized just how useful he was, and Nathan offered him a job. Being as it was a steady job, and that he'd have his own room, among other perks, Tai agreed to stay.
