Zajac loves to fly, and feels most at ease when behind the wheel of the IAS Windrunner. As a pilot, Zajac's flying style oscillates between near panic and a Zen-like calm. The attitude he conveys seems to be in inverse proportion to the degree of danger he believes he and the ship are in at any particular moment, acting the most calm when facing the greatest danger.

Zajac is a laid-back guy with a dry, yet quick-witted sense of humor. He represents the sensible, cut-and-run opinion in any shipboard debate and often serves as the calming influence in heated arguments. His actions sometimes appear cowardly (or at least less than heroic), but Zajac has proven his resolve and willingness to both put himself in harm's way and do violence on behalf of his friends on many occasions.

Though it may seem as though he doesn't care what others think about him, as a result of his past Zajac is actually quite insecure. Not many get to see this insecurity, however, as he is very guarded and doesn't let many into his heart. He keeps most people at a distance with sarcastic wit. Those that do make it into his heart are there for good. Zajac is immensely dedicated and loyal, and will do anything for those he loves.

Zajac was born, the only child to a great Alliance military commander. He spent his childhood absent of his father, living with his mother until she died when he was thirteen. At that point, his father brought him aboard the Brass Eagle, the Alliance military ship his father was commander of. From this point in his life, he was subject to a strict lifestyle. Anything he did(or didn't do), his father explained, was a reflection upon his father.

Feeling so under pressure all the time too it's toll on Zajac. When docked for repairs, he made some friends who introduced him to Marijuana. He was hesitant to try it at first, as the drug was illegal according to the government, but the idea of rebelling against his father, in the end won out. Though he never saw those friends again he continued to smoke pot, in secret, aboard the Brass Eagle.

At the age of eighteen, Zajac's father had decided that Zajac needed to do something worthwhile with his life. The two argued day and night, as Zajac did not want to be a part of the military, while his father felt it was the most honorable thing one could do for the Alliance. In the end, Zajac's father forced him to choose an occupation. Zajac, who had always been interested in flying, decided he wanted to be a pilot. He was immediately introduced to the Brass Eagle's pilot team and began his tutelage.

While learning how to fly, he met another young pilot named Gabriel Bristow and became quick friends with him. Over time, Zajac finally decided to share his secret with Gabe, and showed him that he smoked pot. Gabe, in turn, decided to share a secret of his own, and kissed Zajac. Though Zajac was both shocked and surprised by this, he also found that he quite liked it. Though homosexual relations were illegal according to the government, the two dated in secret.

Their relationship lasted for about a year, until one day Zajac's father walked in on them. Though Zajac and Gabe were in the act of consonantal love-making, Zajac's father was in denial and had Gabe thrown in the Air Ship's jail, saying that Gabe was forcing himself upon his son. Zajac argued and fought with his father, trying to win Gabe's freedom by expressing his love for him, but that only infuriated his father more. Zajac's father allowed the men to brutally beat Gabe and throw him overboard. As for Zajac, his father dropped him off at the next port and told him that he never wanted to see him again.

Depressed, thinking his lover was dead, Zajac found his way to the Independent lands where he worked doing odd jobs here and there, and spend much of his time drinking and smoking pot. Months later he was found by Nathan Alloway, captain of the IAS Windrunner, who was looking for a pilot. At first, Zajac expressed no interest, wanting only to wallow in his misery. When Nathan kept asking for him to join the crew, Zajac finally yelled out at him that he was gay, expecting Nathan to be appalled and leave him alone. However, Nathan didn't care, so long as Zajac was a good pilot. Finally, Zajac agreed, and has been with the IAS Windrunner and it's crew ever since.
