I do wonder how some people get together. In this case, Tucker and I have both speculated that MIL saw FIL as a way to get out of the current life she was in and have something better. Both of her daughters have also "married for money" instead of love. Several of my aunts are the same way (they're in their 80's and 90's as well) and I think back then that's just how it was done. Kind of like a historical novel, women always married for wealth and position and to hell with the idea that the guy might be a dick.

My MIL is a lovely woman, she is the perfect picture of a Southern Belle, she is so quietly elegant and classy. Seriously, I wish I could be as graceful and charming as she is (and used to be). She's just delightful. If we had to move in to take care of her (assuming that FIL has already passed on) it would not be a burden but a pleasure. If the opposite were true and we had to take care of FIL, I think I would be drinking on the regular.
I haven't seen much of France, I'm aware of it some of it, but I'm going to sound seriously unfeeling and uninvolved here: But I just can't even watch the world news now. I can barely deal with the shit going on here. The ugliness, the hatred, the stupidity, all of it have driven me to a point of depression I didn't know possible. But you're right, some of these protesters have no idea what they're protesting. Even here I see signs protesting something silly and I'm always thinking, "Do you even KNOW what that is?" We had protestors for vaccines at the start of the school year! Again, do you know what you're protesting? Vaccines are good, they save lives, and now we're in a serious measles outbreak at the moment. And all these parents watching their children go through this, crying, "I wish I had known!" WE TOLD YOU! Idiots.
I MISS THE 80's!!! I am always looking up videos on YouTube or stuff on Pinterest from the 80's and 90's. Everything was better. The entertainments, the clothes, the music, the sodas and snacks . . . you find that wormhole and don't keep it to yourself, LOL! I'm coming with you :)
I had a friend who worked in Japan for this company and no joke, she was hired because she was white. They needed to look more international to their clients, so they would hire white people to make it look like they had people from all over the world employed by them. She too spoke no Japanese when she arrived, but can muddle through bank transactions and grocery shopping now.

Unfortunately with Father in law, it just seems to have amplified who he was previously. Even Tucker is amazed at what a selfish ass he's become. It's like all the stuff he had a tight lid on has been removed and the real man has emerged. I feel sorry for mother in law as she's doing her best to "take care" of him, but doesn't want us to move in 24/7 as he's gotten so mentally abusive to everyone.
I feel like you just described our country right now. Only the billionaires are getting the tax breaks while the rest of us are either put out of our homes, starving, or don't even have money for gas. ICE started harassing all the brown people not taking into consideration that a good portion of them are First Nation and have more of a right to be here than any of the rest of us white people. And ICE is scary, they have openly killed people in the streets here. Not to mention EVERYTHING else this orange clown has done. I think we'd have a contest over who is more of a disgrace at the moment.
Wow, Thailand! I can see you moving to Vietnam, you've enjoyed your time there thus far. How many more years to the boys have in school? During Trump's first election, we actually thought of moving to New Zealand. This last term we considered Canada (but they are having their own shitstorm right now) however with the in-laws being at the point they are, we have to stay, neither of them would survive the trip even if they wanted to move. The other night Tucker actually suggested Japan, but I reminded him that he does not speak a word of Japanese nor would he actually learn.
Whirlwind of emotions . . . there isn't enough rum in the world to calm the storms :)
