New Gift Wrapping!

We\'ve simplified the gift giving process this luminaire by purchasing all of the stock of wrapping paper that the Holiday Shop has! You can now send gifts directly from the gift wrapping center without worrying about finding wrapping paper! We\'re even giving everyone 10,000sP if they redeem their wrapping paper from their inventory, since we aren\'t taking it anymore!

The owners of the holiday shop have taken the sP from the purchase of the remainder of their stock and skipped off to retirement in Veta!

Be better if you just made it 1k and you got to pick.

I mean really who cares what the paper looks like? it goes away and you just keep the item anyway.

I don't like this option. I loved having to buy wrapping paper and sending people presents. Now we have to pay to send people gifts? I call bullshit on that, sorry. There were way cheaper wrapping papers out there, I am not paying 1k let alone 15k to wrap a gift. I collected the wrapping paper, I bought a ton load the other week, just so I can send gifts. So much luck for that :/

I don't understand the problem (since the price dropped) if you've been hoarding paper: Go to your inventory, trade it in for 10k, then go spend 7500 for the same thing, pocket 2500 sP. If you didn't keep wrapping paper around, your best option is just to spend 1k to send it randomly; the box is not the important part of a gift, is it? And if you're sending so many gifts that an extra 1k each will break your bank, well... what paper were you sending them in anyway that was an appreciable amount less than that? According to the page stats, the average user now has over 9 million sP -- don't pretend we don't have a need for as many sP sinks as possible, statistically.

I think next year the prices should probably be reduced since there will (theoretically) be less paper on the site to turn in for fat stacks of cash (I just made 540k and I still have 123 wrapping paper items left to turn in). Consider that they could have simply allowed us to use up our remaining stock for free... you'd be down no more money than before. However, even if I spent 7500 to send one present for every piece of paper I have (cost: 1,327,500 sp to send 177 presents), I'll still have made a new 442k -- and the economy will STILL be so ridiculous that I don't even consider that much of a profit. If you're concerned about new players' ability to send presents, set up a giveaway thread where you either give your wrapping paper away as 10k vouchers, or give 7500 away. Don't wanna? Welcome to why we have sP sinks. (That might have been a little TOO snarky, sorry)

Basically, if you're gift bombing wrapped gifts are are new/poor enough not to afford the 1k, I apologize that long time players/hoarders (of which I am both) have habits that contributed to everything more expensive and frustrating lately. It's one of the drawbacks of an economy where it is "easy" to make and keep money.

Hopefully, any combos will have their wrapping paper component replaced or restocked in, say, the craft store.

Cool idea but the price is ridiculous. 15K to wrap a present? Don't think so. I might pay 1K but that's about it. So guess I'll just be sending my friends presents for Xmas without wrap from now on. :(

To me, I think the prices are high for wrapping paper, especially for those who are able to hoard it during the year in order to gift bomb people :[ . In all honesty, I am on the fence about this feature. On one hand, I really like being able to choose any wrapping paper, but I also dont appreciate the price. On the other hand, I feel like this isnot a good choice, cause it kinda takes some of the fun out of the whole process.

Soooo, in general, I like this new Feature! But why did you make the giftwraps so expensive? That kind of annoys me. I think, as many others here do, 1000 sp for choosing and half the price for Random would have been appropriate. Gifting should be funny and easy, gifting wrapped gifts, a unique and wonderful feature of this site, should be also.

Booo Hisss. No more gift wrapping for me. It's not often that I totally hate a new system but this takes all the fun out of Lumineve for me. I bought lots of giftwrap in the off-season when it was 100sp or less, just for Lumineve gifts. Over 7k to wrap a present in paper of my choice? that is freaking nuts! OOOH! I've had to erase this three times now to avoid unacceptable language. This sucks.

I wanna say thank you for this. I like this new feature. I didnt hoard and if I did I wouldnt want to go the the vault everytime to send a gift. Price seems a bit high and preview would be nice but overall I'm happy with this change.

I'm more upset about the loss of the Holiday Shop.... I used to love to buy things there. It was my favourite shop! How will we get event themed items now?? Or are you going to make everything cash shop items? Plus the prices you're charging are insanely high, especially considering you've at least quadrupled costs of sending a wrapped present now. What about the genetech items that require wrapping paper? There are quite a few of those. If they're retired then it would have been nice of you to warn us before you decided to completely get rid of the wrapping paper. Unlike most during this season, I've not got a ton of paper lying around because I'm not that into gift giving. This just keeps getting worse. First I have to hunt through all the regular shops to find seasonal items (haven't caught even one yet, by the way) and now this. Did people really find the old way so annoying that you decided to shun more important site improvements to implement this first? Before you changed it I didn't care. Now I'm annoyed.

I'm okay with it because I've been paying 40k for each Peppermint Wrapping paper. 8D;; Okay, on a more serious note, I don't think the new price is that bad, plus you can make it only 1k if you don't really care/don't want to spend 7.5k. Granted it's more than if you hoarded a bunch of such, but still, I don't think it's too bad. But if this change garners too much complaints over the next week or so, maybe the new system would be fiddled with. While change can be good, you should always be wary of the communities' response.

7.5k to pick a wrapping paper?! This is insane! I could hoard wrapping paper at 200sP each to send presents.
If we don't even get the object, why can't you just make it more or less free? (like 1k to pick, and 500sP for random, at most).
And I don't like the idea of phasing out so many items that may be useful as other things (quests, fragging, treasure chests...)

The sticker shock got me for a few, but after some reflection I think this is fairly positive. Do like not having to go to my vault for paper anymore. A part of me is all "but I don't wanna pay that much to chooooose!" but then in reality, I usually just snag whatever random paper I happen to click on first from my vault and go with that. So not much really changes there. I am glad the prices changed from where they were initially pegged, but I am not sure that the price for choosing is low enough to tempt me to do it that way very often. We'll see tho.

Once the paper runs out that you can turn in you're being overcharged. 7500 is a far cry better than 15k, but I still find it much too expensive :S It's better, though...

You still choose what paper to usep. But you're not being overcharged... drag out the paper from your store, click it for 10k sp, then go ahead and use the 7.5k paper, making 2.5k profit from the new system ;) Basic maths.

I like this. It's cool. 7500sp isn't bad although I think it could still be a tad cheaper. I think 5000sp would have been a better price. But it's nice there's a random option for cheap (although I think some themed papers should be excluded from it). Maybe there could be a cheap wrapping paper option that isn't random. Like wrapping your gift in used/recycle newspaper and having it be badly taped together. :P

The new feature seems nice and all but does it have to crash Firefox every time I try to come in here XD.
It doesn't seem to be Firefox friendly because it crashes out of the blue and it only does that on this website.
As if the unresponsive script box pop up while viewing your plushie collection from the game room isn't hectic enough ^_^;.
I'll try out the new feature when I'm able to :).

Well, this is disappointing. I can see how it's an attempt at eliminating an item there are thousands of, but I really have always liked hand wrapping an items and matching my paper and present.

I feel like it's an attempt at controlling the economy like removing the mystery box (or making it suck more like) and switching up vending machines, but it's taking things I like about this site and changing them a bit too drastically.

I've collected in excess of 200 gift wrapping, boxes and bags. I'm not turning them in for 10,000sP. I don't like that my choice has been taken away, and some very good points have been made about the flow of sP economy also. I prefer to chose the wrapping I send a gift in, from my own store of it, and not be over charged in the gift center.

Thou I can see some merits to changing the system to this new update like no longer searching for wrapping paper in vaults and a equal price for wrapping paper. I agree more with the people saying boo. I often would send gifts randomly out to unexpecting users and friends with wrapping paper I collected through either quests, the donation center, or vending. Now though to send out the amount that I was it wouldn't be worth it. The choice is just about all gone. Yes you can still choose different wrapping paper but part of the fun was going out and getting just the right type to gift with. Not only that the Subeta economy is going to take a hard hit. Before the prices varied back and forth depending on restocks and store prices so there was a decent flux of both high and regular flow of sp. Now it's going to lower and that trading of sp to user and system is going to slow down and shrink. So even though this new will work I foresee less people using it and after a time a decrease in the sp flowing around the site.

Aside from me hitting myself for dragging my feet on collecting wrapping paper, I think this is a nice feature overall. It'll save time, clear out some clutter, and plus it's nice to have a full selection of paper to choose from.

I think some valid criticism was delivered in the beginning, but at least the feature got tweaked accordingly. I don't think it's so bad.

Would anyone really be so offended to get a morostide giftbox at christmas? Who gives a crap, when they look at the box for all of 5 seconds? The important part is the item/message inside the box, surely.

@Shae I can understand not wanting to give a particular box to somebody (like you mentioned crosses), but 5k extra is almost nothing to pay to avoid that. I don't feel that for the sake of 5k it's even worth worrying about. That's not even 1 minute's work on this site; as much time as it would take you to find the right paper from the user shops.

I like this change, a LOT. So much junk from shops and vaults will be gone. Yay for streamlining.

I disagree about the general butthurt about the wrapping cost, it's perfectly affordable and you'd have to be VERY stingy to claim that's expensive.

However, I'll bring up a question nobody else did... What happens to the genetech items that required wrapping? I still haven't gotten that golden book!

The price is too much. Not only do you take away choice by overcharging for wrapping paper, but take away from the gift someone might give knowing they have to pay for it.

You could also allow the old paper to be grandfathered in.. a LOT of people have saved up for paper all year.

Awww, boo. This means I won't be able to hoard paper all year so that I can do insane amounts of anon-gifting for next Lumi... it's one thing when I've been hoarding all year, but dropping 1k-2.5k (depending on what it is, since the page says both) every time I send a present... well, no. I send about 15-50 anons a day during December, depending on my mood that day and how much stuff I have to clear and how much patience...
That's a lot of sP to have and drop per day, as compared to just digging it out of the vault.

also, in general, i like this change. sp sinks are good in my book, especially inexpensive but often-used ones like this. more like this instead of devaluing quests, please. the redeeming feature is also fantastic as it means a neat profit for me (and for any of you as well if you're up for it, as there are still thousands of wrapping papers significantly under 10k on the market but there won't be for long!)

Why is everyone upset? You can still use whatever wrapping paper you want. I think it's much better this way because you dont have to worry about getting wrapping paper and instead of going through three pages of this you only go through two pages. And you can choose right there what you want. To me, 7,000 or 8,000 is nothing compared to what else you would send. Change must happen. Of course most people don't like things to change.

people are "crying" about the 7.5k cost to choose the paper because oh, I dunno I like to not send a Morostide gift box during Luminaire or I have friends who hate certain colors, so I don't want to chance their gift getting wrapped in that color paper. For me personally, I like to use a paper that I feel the person will like or that fits the theme of the gift. I also have friends who (like me) are pagan and would not like to receive a gift wrapped in crosses. So yeah...being pushed to pay 7.5k just to make sure that we don't end up sending a completely inappropriately wrapped gift to someone is a pain and is worth complaining about. I enjoyed matching up the paper/box with the gift or the person it was going to and feel that this change in the way gifts are wrapped is not adding anything to the site and is instead taking away something that many enjoyed.Many others have pointed out the pitfalls of the Genetech combos and also how it doesn't confirm the person's name once the gift is sent, so I won't delve back into those other than to say "yep, I agree".

There's a nice workaround for wrapping paper, and thanks for that, but what about the Greeting Cards that restocked there? Their rarity remains the same so it looks as though they didn't retireAre they restocking somewhere else, and if so, where?

Been hoarding wrapping paper for years now...have hundreds of them. HUNDREDS! If I even wanted to redeem them ( which I don't ) I WOULD HAVE TO REDEEM THEM ONE AT A TIME and it takes way too much time and too many 'clicks'. Why didn't you use the same code you used for the fragmentizer so that we could redeem all at once and be done with it. This is not one of your best business decisions you've made and I doubt it will have positive effects on the economy of the site. Why not make it optional? Doesn't it make sense to offer your customers options that best fit their needs? I'm keeping my wrapping paper for now, if I want to send a gift I will just drop in their inventory. You eliminated stockings, you wrecked the Mystery Box, vending has totally been destroyed, now you have ruined Christmas ( and any gift giving occasions ) by screwing up the wrapping center. The fun is gone. PLEASE DON"T WRECK THE SNOWTAPAULT!! ( pleasepleasepleasedearGod )

I love the idea of not having to buy wrapping paper before going to send a gift! However, I agree that 10K is too steep as-is. A random paper option for 1K is nice, but IMHO not very useful if you are sending a gift for a certain holiday or a birthday. Might I suggest adding a slightly more expensive (maybe 2-4K?) option to choose a random paper of a certain theme/line as well? Like for people that just want to send a birthday gift but don't want it to come in a Morostide box or Luminaire paper.

I'm buying mass amounts of wrap at 4k each, 'using' them to gain 10k. 6k profit PER wrap! And I'm not ever using the gift wrap center! Pure profit! Love the idea of this - though I prefer to spend sp on my presents for people rather than mainly on the wrapping!

Whilst leaving gifts under trees is fun, there's nothing like ripping off the paper from a fresh gift in your inventory! :)

Voodoo, this is actually generating sPs instead of sinking them. Would have made more sense for the subetateam to buy up all the wrap in peoples shops or at least all wrap that was 10k or under.

Just a strange question... why would you change this in the middle of the season? Why not alter it afterwards and begin it for next year? Seems kind of silly to change it now... especially when new folks are still trying to get the achievement for sending wrapped gifts!

10k for each paper seems like a LOT of generated sP... I know a lot of people save the ones they get to use it in the future. Can only imagine how much they're going to be making. o__o;; I mean go them for sure but is this whole thing going to be more of a sink orrrrrrr...? Heh. I guess you gotta give them a good incentive to get rid of it, though, too. Oh well.

10k is a lot to receive from turning in these papers. I can buy papers now that are still cheap, turn them in, and make profit. So this actually seems to be less of an SP sink at the moment and more of an SP generator.

Not all gentech combos are forever or easy, but we may find other ways to release them in the future :)

I think a lot of you are forgetting the times of 40k+ wrapping paper inflation during the holidays. We wanted to make sure it's a stable price year round for everyone!

There are still two free ways to send gifts during Luminaire, and one year-round.

Miramel, that is a good point. I purchase around 100 MKBs and a few thousand tokens to give out around the holidays, plus other random items.. and paying 15K for holiday wrapping paper per item.... woo, not going to happen. 2.K is even pushing it to send it in a random one. Sadly I'll probably resort to forum giveaways instead... which don't seem nearly as spirited.

For heaven's sakes, lower that 15K to 10K. Also, a mass redeem would have been a little easier. Obviously another annoying sP sink and I do understand the Holiday Shop is being phased out but surely you know a lot of us are hoarding the stuff and clicking 'use item' for each one is going to be annoying as hell. I'm really not looking forward to it.

One of the nicest things about Luminaire, beyond the expensive gifts friends give each other, is total strangers giving and getting Anonymous gifts even if the cost of those is low. It really is the thought that counts. I'm afraid this cost is going to take that away, which would be very sad.

However, I want to echo the same question in regards to the most recent releases of combo items-- what happens to those, now that the papers are being phased out? Any chance the paper could be replaced with something else (paints, decals, stuff from thimble and co maybe) so the items don't basically inflate beyond reason :c?

But the prices seem a bit much to me.
I wish the cost for choosing was made the overall cost of wrapping paper from the shop, or at least half of what they are currently.
