SNOWBALL FIGHT!

Earlier today, the shopping district of Subeta was rocked by turmoil as a debate raged on between two shop owners: Tobias of the Toy Box, and Dolly of the Candy Shack. I was able to determine the source of the turmoil in my exclusive interview with Dolly this afternoon:
“Tobias thinks he’s SO cool running the toy shop, like it’s somehow BETTER than my candy shop. I mean come on, no stupid toy is ever going to be as awesome as getting a whole box of CANDY for Luminaire!â€
At this point, Tobias interjected:
“Dolly, you are the stupid one. Like candy would ever be better than toys! Candy is gone in like, 2 minutes but toys can be played with all Luminaire! “
“Pfft, your cheap toys always end up broken in 2 minutes, and then you’ve got a broken toy AND no deliciously full belly. Sorry not sorry, but candy is obviously the winner.â€
“There’s only one way we can settle this. You want to snowball fight for it?â€
“HECK YEAH I DO!â€
I bravely tried to petition for a cease snowball, but it seems that these fierce titans of industry cannot be reasoned with, though I did get them to agree to a set of rules in order to keep the frostbite at bay! As well as battling for honor, the two shopkeepers are willing to give a few prizes to those that help them out.

For participating:
• Team-themed achievement and title

• 3 retired Melody’s Cottage items

• Trow Trophy for your profile!

In addition to the participant prizes, the winning team will receive:

• 2 retired Melody’s cottage items

• A special winter themed wearable
And that's not all! You can also win a team-themed item from your own team’s captain if you manage to throw a certain amount of snowballs over the course of the battle. The top 10% of snowball throwers from either team will also receive a special achievement and title!
To find out more and to join the fight, I’ve been informed to tell you to GO HERE!
There is also now a Luminaire forum for you to find potential targets! All Luminaire threads have been moved there, make sure to only hit members of the opposing team! Also, you can only be hit by snowballs if you choose to participate in the fight!
Who will rise victorious and who will get the cold shoulder? Only time will tell!

How about next time we have an event like this aka teams, we not let anyone just pick either team. Put in place a feature where you can only join a team if the other has more or the same members. That way we avoid everyone piling onto one side because its winning at that second or just has more members. Keeps it even and prevents freeloading bullshit like this
however i am thoroughly horrified of that trow trophy and fear it's soulless gaze
perhaps i will... simply continue to keep my trophy chest hidden from my profile...

kittykitten, there isn't, sorry! i don't imagine it will be a function they will look to include, either. while it is a bit tedious (i should know, i've been on the page for hours sending out hundreds of snowballs since i got on this morning) to throw them individually, that is somewhat the essence of the event.
i'm already quite surprised but pleased that they added a bundle purchase function for the snowballs, as well as some of the other smaller things they added along the way (random target, for example). i can't even imagine the impact on the score and server load there might be if over 500 people were throwing 100 snowballs at a time. yikes. my wrist is cramping too, haha. make sure not to make anyone too angry. the team appreciates your effort!
also even though this needs a little more tweaking i think to even everything out and make it fair and square, i'm really glad to see staff taking a proactive role in tinkering with things/events so they're funner for the people actually participating in them. always happy to see when people don't shy away from catering to the crowd who is putting in effort and not just the entire user base. gonna try to do at least 50 to 100 snowballs a day, even with work. candy WILL win.

Maybe this is a lame question but is their any way at all to 'mass' throw the snow balls? My wrist fingers are killing me and brother is getting annoyed cause I'm hogging the computer - Like a-lot XD
Otherwise this event is uber amusing! x3 GO SWEETS! -hides-

I've thrown over 1K snowballs and getting kinda tired. Had to take a break and do quests. Agree with a few others, it's tiring and kind of boring just throwing snowballs over and over. I want to hit some of my friends but can't.

How long will this fighting go on? I am already burnt out, but I don't want to back down now. I have thousands of anonymous internet strangers counting on me not to let our score average drop. I can't let thousands of internet strangers down...

Not sure how the points are working out but I'm so damned glad to see it's not just a case of join the most popular team crap again. I've thrown a few hundred. Curious to see how long this is going to last... Day 1 and I'm pretty much bored and honestly know there isn't a point into sinking hundreds more for that top 10 because of auto clickers/peeps with no lives. (Love you though) Would also like to know about how the Freeloader thing is working. Is that done per day? Some days I'm busy and I'm going to be pretty upset if I get kicked off some other day because I had doctor's appointments or something.
Okay two things.
1) I dont know if I missed this announcement or if it was never made but: WHEN DOES THIS END? Does it go until the end of the month? end of the week? until the 25th? When please, please, pretty please with a cherry on top please, tell me when.
and
2) Do you think 11,540 is enough to be in the top 10% when it ends or do I need to keep going? 'cause i'm now bored and tired and Dolly probably isnt going to win because of the throw-no/one-snowball members so there really isn't any point to me trying more than i have already unless it's to get in the top 10% ugh.

All of the complainers make this event less fun, sighs.
But honestly? There are going to be people on BOTH teams who don't "pull their weight." And there are going to be people on BOTH teams who spend hours refreshing. And there are going to be people on BOTH teams who join whatever team they think will win and not contribute. Or DO contribute. Just because one team has more or less people doesn't mean they do or don't "deserve" to win, yeah? Both teams are being super hardworking, yeah?

I think it would be interesting if you could only get the prize if you throw more than the other teams avg. this way more people would be more competitive.
"if you like the item, good for you go buy it after the fact or something? don't ruin the whole event for someone else"
The only people ruining this "event" are those with attitudes like yours. It took me a while to throw 200 snowballs; unlike what seems like a huge amount of people in this event, I'm not running an auto-refresher or anything like that. I found the snowball-throwing to be tedious, and if I'd know that was all there was to the event believe me, I wouldn't have bothered participating.
This all just brings back memories of Neopets' altador cup, and all of the taunts of "Freeloader" that those who didn't want to play all day would get. You all need to grow up. Not everybody is going to play the game to the extent that you expect them to.

I've literally been throwing snowballs all damn day.. and yet I feel like I'm not helping at all. xD The more I throw, the more pointless it seems.. woo fun. Sounds like it's time to pack it in. no pun intended.

As much fun as this is I hope it doesn't last until Xmas because there are other people I want to snowball. Right now the only friend I can hit is on my team. :(
I also hope they give us warning before it ends so we can use up our snowballs instead of being stuck with tons of them when the fight is over and seeing the prices plummet.

@LucidDreams
in my opinion, if you're not going to participate in the event - either wait until the end to join, or don't join at all? first of all, you can't even get the necklace without throwing a certain amount of snowballs, so if they're joining and not even trying, then they're not getting the prize they 'joined for'. and because the number of snowballs needing to be thrown for the prize increases with the amount of snowballs being thrown, they will have to continue to add to their total until the end. so if you are a 'deadbeat' user, you are doing literally nothing for the team or yourself.
you're not supposed to join the team because 'candy is cute' or 'bright pastel colors' or 'boys have cooties'. you join because you want to help your team WIN an event. no one here, no matter what you want to believe, is going to join an event and spend 2-3 hours throwing snowballs because they 'don't mind losing'. i've thrown over 300, and i'll continue to throw them, but you can bet i'm annoyed that our team is working their butt off for people who are doing nothing and just waiting to mooch off whatever prizes we get. which will be very few, thanks to said people.
i don't think the teams should be closed. i think, like other users have mentioned and said may have even been implemented, i think deadbeats should be kicked off the team. i think if you haven't thrown an average of a certain amount of snowballs a day, you need to be off the team. unless keith is interested in changing the ENTIRE way this is calculated, that's the only fair thing to do. also, i'm not sure you're understanding how the event works or is calculated?
dolly's team has to throw nearly 3x the amount of snowballs as tobias' to gain even a point. scoring is done by amount of snowballs thrown vs amount of team members. their members are actively participating, and the few on our team who are actually trying (and have been for HOURS) just can't compete with that. i'm not saying they don't deserve to win, but they're obviously not putting in more effort, you're just not paying attention.
'end of story'.

okay well just gonna point out the fact that this is an event intended to be fun but still an event
events require participation
if you like the item, good for you go buy it after the fact or something? don't ruin the whole event for someone else - i don't really see anything wrong with everyone's JUSTIFIED attitudes
because if you've looked below/at how things are calculated, tobias' team has to do im pretty sure literally half of what we've had to to be even close so no, they dont really "deserve" to win just sayin'

was super excited for this once it was posted - and actually, still a bit excited. just a little disappointed that people are jumping onto dolly's team for a free win and not pulling their weight. some of us are getting cramps in our fingers and wrists and draining our SP for this, and some people haven't even thrown a single snowball? rolls eyes whatever. they can be grinches if they want. hope to still get some good stuff out of this even, even if our team loses.
I love this event. What a fun idea. I also looooooove the way this news post was written, thanks whoever wrote it, for the laugh.

How long is this event, like others I dont have that much Sp to keep buying snowballs to keep throwing

Okay, so here I go sounding like a brown-noser again. But I was seriously having a lot of trouble getting into the holiday spirit this year until this. SNOW FIGHT!!!!! WOOOOT!!!!!!! Who cares bout all dat drama? It's like a food fight in the cafeteria, but better! :D Especially for those of us with no RL snow, this is AWESOME!!!!!!
That being said: dude. Toys. So obviously toys. I still have RL trows from when I was eight. While I enjoy candy (probably significantly more than the average person, given the number of cavities over the years), there's just no comparison. TEAM TOBIAS FTW!!!!!!! :D

Still calculated the same way, but it looks like deadweight members were removed from the teams

It´s so easy since we can buy the snowballs in bulk! Go, Team Tobias, go! This little sleigh is too cute!!!! <3

Quote by @Keith:
Takes out a calculator@Tserel It's the averaged score (score / members) with a little bit of secret sauce to keep people who've not participated counting against
So when do you apply the secret sauce? because 1,064,836 (snowballs) / 2,077 (members) = 512.67 (current score is 512)
Team dolly needs that sauce!!!!

Man at first I didn't mind that we had a lot of users who probably werent doing anything but now with the gap increasing even though we have so many more users, it's getting to me :(
Lmao at these attitudes. "dead beats"...have you considered that maybe more people are joining Dolly's team because more of us like cutesy pastel-coloured candy stuff? I know I joined because I preferred the cute little necklace to Tobias' toy. And to suggest that the team should be closed so that we can catch up is ridiculous; Tobias' team deserve to win, they're obviously putting more effort into it, end of story.
I think a lot of these people are so pissed off because they joined the team that they thought was going to win and now it isn't looking so good for us. xD
Lol at hipster's gif, I hadn't even noticed the troll doll trophy! I'm glad I participated just for that now haha.

well, I said... without a warning said it doesn't matter the amount of members/snowballs thrown, but the average snowballs thrown per person, there'll be a lot of freeloaders on the candy team.
But with the timing between snowballs, and now with the prevent of refreshing the page, it'll discourage people to keep throwing. I'm glad I thrown 3k balls before the hash thing lel

Honestly I feel like the candy team should be closed for new members for a while to let the team numbers even out. It's highly unclear who's winning so dead beats keep joining the candy team thinking "I'll get a free win!" and dragging it down more. Honestly with the fact that team candy has nearly 2x as many members I don't think it'd be unreasonable to have it closed until they are about even in numbers lol. Right now it looks pretty pointless to keep throwing, because even though people are way over the average the snowballs the high scores are tossing basically count for nothing, because we have so many members lol.
@jnerraw It looks like the points are figured out by taking the number of snowballs thrown, and dividing that by the number of team members. So we're losing as not all of our team members are throwing many snowballs (myself included; I've thrown 200 but I just can't bring myself to throw any more, it's so unbelievably boring just refreshing that page and the 5 second time limit between throws has made it even worse. Due to the attitudes towards people who have thrown -500 snowballs, I wish I'd never bothered participating. Merry Christmas everyone! :/ )

The 5 second between throws thing is seriously messing me up. We're already 14 points behind and it's like pulling teeth now to actually get a decent amount of snowballs thrown to make up for the ridiculous amounts of people on our team not doing anything. -_-
