As far as I'm aware, stories aren't necessary but contribute a huge amount to a profile. Since this is a fanpet, there's a concept of character/story present that some people'll get while others might miss it, but you can get a good sort of personality and interests from them in their treasure chest.

Congrats, Undertale FTW! c: Everytime I saw Spookwave leashed in the forums I got an earwarm from his weird tunes! ^-^
It would be so much cooler if the music notes were musically/theoretically correct. But still an amazing pet overlay! Unless, of course, these music notes are supposed to be this way due to a character reference that I do not know/understand. :)

I think they changed their rules for pet pages that it didn't have to have a story, but at least something written. Since it has a thing when you click on 'fight' I guess that counts. (Since ppl can do poems, I guess they don't have a defined word count).
