Outfit Limit Update
The human avatar system is a major part of the site; while our pets are precious, fashion and HA options have also kept people with Subeta through the evolution of the Wardrobe and features such as toggles to display limbs or not, skins to add a bit of extra flair, and saved outfits to preserve favorite combinations or try out new items.
Saved outfits in particular have been one of the most used, er, threads through several versions, and understandably so given the sheer fun of them, with 250 avatars on average saved per day and 360,000+ (and counting) total in the system. But given the amount of bandwidth, limits on how many total per user had been previously discussed; in fact, when you currently click over Outfits in the Wardrobe, there is a notification that eventually a limit of 500 saved outfits will be enforced.
There were various reasons why the timeframe on when to apply that limit was still being worked out but, with the tagging system going live, we're ready with the timeline and details.
Starting 2022 January 1st 12:01am Subeta time, the limit of 500 outfits will be put into effect. HOWEVER, your old outfits will not be deleted and you will be able to load, modify, and wear those outfits Nor will they count against your limit. So for example, If you have 520 outfits today, on January 1st, those 520 outfits are grandfathered in and you will have 0 against the limit of 500 outfits.
We understand that it's going to be an adjustment, but we also know that this is a caring and generous community that wants to look out for each other and this measure is to improve the site experience overall. This helps future Wardrobe usage and stability, reducing lag not just for avatar enthusiasts but for the fabric of the site overall. Working with twenty million rows in the database versus twenty billion makes a big difference in the amount of time and processing, and forums, quests, and battling along with general process spooling time will benefit from this.
We look forward to being able to improve existing features and delight with new ones for everyone!

I'll be honest, I...still thought we could only save like, eight. So! This is a great update for me!

As someone who uses subeta for mostly the wardrobe and HA making (and got my partner into it too) I think 500 saved outfits is WAY more then enough! I cleaned out my outfits last year and deleted about 50, leaving me with around 20 left and I thought that was a lot. Many of us remember the days you could only have 3 saved outfits, 5 if you had a GA so yea 500 is way more than enough HA space

I'm so old I literally just thought "remember when there was a five-outfit limit?" I somehow erased all of mine and never got around to recreating them, but I should. So much fun.

This is cool and all but I just want the wardrobe useable again. Everytime I spend time on an outfit the page refreshes every so often & I llose all my prgress on it. And I spend HOURS making HAs so it has become discourging to even try & when I try to save them it doesnt save everytime.

I need a mass delete option please, I have over 800 saved and would like to clear them out but the fact I need to click on each confirm manually really saps any desire I have to clear em

Some people enjoy changing their HA's? Not everyone likes keeping the same look all the time.
Your experience with HA's on subeta is not the same to other people.

@Keith Oh yes please! I'm in the same boat as Holden. 20 outfits with different eyes or minor layering changes... It got a bit out of control when we couldn't delete saved outfits for a while there.

Myself sadly. During the months that we couldn't delete outfits I had almost 5K saved. Took me a week to delete all but 100 of them once that glitch got fixed. Still. 500 is quite generous all things considered. I'll just have to restrain myself a bit.
excuse the language but
who the f**k has that many outfits?...

I will support anything that reduces lag -- including if you find you need to lower the number of saved outfits!

I don't have many, but I can understand having fun and dressing the HA's up and wanting to save all possibilities, so everyone kind of lol people who may have that many or tf at them, idgi. Same could be said why so many TC items or why so many forum comments or why so many pets, etc. Everyone has their enjoyments and perks they have on site, so this may be a bummer for some, and idg the well you shouldn't need or want that anyway what lol comments. Anyway, that being said, this site has been very generous with what we're allowed to do and how much freedom and space we have, it's surprising these things haven't needed to be implemented yet. Thanks for the heads up, anyway. Still waiting for the day we may have a limit on storage space, and then I will uhoh lol

500 outfits?
Oh God. I had 10 maybe xD
Off-topic: How about Fireside? I thought that it would start this week.

I've never gone over 200. I'm amazed people can actually hit 500.
Now, if only deleted outfits would stay deleted.

Honestly speaking when I first joined I would mostly delete/pawn/sell/donate items I didn't expect myself to wear because I assume there would be a pretty hefty limit on it (kinda like you can only pile so much apparel on a dragon in Flight Rising) so yeah I certainly don't mind this I don't change my outfit THAT often.

perfect timing - i was wondering to myself when the limit would start being enforced as i was clearing out some old outfits the other day. as someone with <500 outfits currently, 500 is abundant so thank you for that AND for generously letting us keep currently existing outfits!! :'>

Well after a lot of work I finally got the tags to work. Wish there were clearer instructions. I doubt I would ever make it to 500 outfits, I think I have about 25 now. So the limit is no problem. :D Thanks.

Sounds good to me. I think I have maybe 50 saved outfits, certainly not 500. I appreciate the extra space! I remember the days when we had 5 slots, lol.

Thanks so much for the heads up! I’ve got maybe 250 outfits saved so 500 seems to be a more than generous number and thanks for grandfathering in the existing ones! I will definitely go in and clean up what’s there though. I wholeheartedly agree that being able to update an existing outfit instead of saving it new each time you ‘tweak’ it would be a brilliant addition! I often have been working on an outfit and had to step away only to have had the page refresh and lose what I was working on. So I save things frequently! 😳

@Siellby
It says 500 with a gold account, and says 250 otherwise. In January we'll be doing a flat 500 limit, to be able to get the most consistent info and work with site performance. Then we'll know how many extra outfit slots can be added as a gold account perk while still keeping Subeta a stable experience for everyone.

I'm very frustrated by this as I've been trying to work with it all day and just don't understand the instructions. I see no way to tag an outfit, when I open one there is no tag button, when I click the down arrow by tags nothing comes up even though I've made tag names. If I type a tag name in it just creates another tag name so now I have 2 "Winter". How do you tag an outfit and get rid of the duplicate name?

geesh and I have like 10... lol.. I just deleted a couple cos I thought I had too many. 500 is very reasonable!!!!

500 sounds fair to be honest. I've played off and on for 10 years and still have less than 300. I also really appreciate the older ones being grandfathered in, so thank you!

I have 117, so far. 500 is plenty. I'm happy! But rename the outfits isn't working. Can you able to fix it, please? :) I like name/date my outfits, thanks!

Everyone needs to read this through! You will beable to keep your 1200 outfits, because it starts over on the first if January!

And then theres me with all of 3 outfits saved. I'm clearly not using the site to it's full potential

Elysium
Its a good thing I don't have 11,000 backed up any more 😅 But I am still loath to trim the remaining 1,700 any further. I guess I'll have to take screenshots to memorialize them and jot down the items manually to get it down to a fair 500.

gatorgirl
500 definitely seems like more than enough. :) I do love the idea of updating a particular outfit, it drives me crazy when you change an item that it saves as a whole new outfit. I typically go back and delete them but it would be nice to have an "save as an existing" or as a "save as new" option. (Or something on that order). Thanks for all your hard work and update.

Hang on, how do people have more than 250 outfits if that's the limit now?
These are your saved outfits. You have a 250 limit on the number of saved outfits that you can have. You have 21 total now, but these will not count toward the limit when it starts being enforced.

Cool, now if I could only stay logged in for more than a few minutes at a time so I could actually *use* the wardrobe....

500 sounds like a lot to me, I can't even imagine having that many. But I do see how it could get that far though. I delete the ones I don't need /want from time to time

I think I have maybe 25 saved, but that's because most were deleted because they were for contests. I would love to be able to update working outfits, for sure! I hate having to save an outfit multiple times to see changes.
3
Laurey
This won't really affect me that much since I only have like a handful of outfits saved right now anyway, but I do appreciate the advance warning about the limit and giving people enough time to sort their stuff out before it gets imposed.

@Holden
They are working on a tagging system, which sounds like it could fit what you have in mind! I think the goal is to allow you up to 5 tags for each saved outfit, so you'd be able to put "morostide" or "luminaire" tags for them to help you sort.
They're still testing the feature, but there's a thread about it in the Announcements forum called "Saved Outfits: Tags!"

What? 500? Isn't that too much? I only have 10/15 outfits saved and I am deleting those that I no longer use/like. xD

It would also be really nice to categorize our own outfits, like holiday outfits, experimental outfits, etc and search them by name for easy searching. Just throwing ideas out!

Yes please, let us update existing outfit slots.
I also do the thing where I save the same outfit several times over because it's not done yet but I want to take a break and come back to it so I save it then when I come back and work on it I have to save again. And sometimes I get new pieces of clothing that would work really well with an old outfit, I would love to just update that slot rather than saving a whole new outfit.

I remember making screenshots of my favourite outfits and keeping them in a special folder back when didn't have a save option at all... a limit of 500 sounds fine, even generous considering the reason behind it. :)

Holden
I haven't been using wardrobe as much this past year. Are we able to modify saved outfits now and overwrite old ones without having to save a new one each time? I have a lot saved over the past few years that are just the same outfit over and over again with small changes to each one.

Delirium
Ooh, okay this is very clear and good to have confirmed. Thank you!
I will still clear out old outfits just to help with the lag as much as I can but I'm glad I won't be maxed out on outfits when it does take effect! n.n;

the limit warning kinda sat there for a while and I was wondering just the other day when would it eventually happen.

In the beginning I had like 10 avatars only. And along the way, not even those few managed to be carried over to the next wardrobe update...

500? Oh my, not sure how I could ever use that many. I have plenty of clothes in my wardrobe but have like 3-5 favorites saved.

Cool! So should we work on deleting our older saved outfits if we no longer need them? Would that help with bandwidth issues?
2
PUNK
I would be happier if you fixed the 'log in to new Subeta' issue so I could actually access the forums without having to log in a gazillion times a day. It's seriously a PITA.

I think I only have 1 or 2 outfits saved. 500 still sounds like a whole lot, and can't fathom the reason anyone needs that many different looks saved.
But yeah, I think the new limit will help the site run more smoothly.

You're correct, the limit won't apply to the outfits you already have! Seemed a good way to thread the needle. :p

Seems like the number of outfits would be cut down dramatically fi it was possible to update an outfit, rather than having to save a new one each time.

This seems like a reasonable way to help reduce bandwidth use and improve the overall site performance.

If I really went through, I could probably delete some of my 'outfits' as I save in the middle of an idea for an outfit, then later continue to finish and forget to delete the idea stage 'outfit'. I really do appreciate the limit not applying to the outfits we already have (at least that's what I got from reading this?). I will try to keep my number of outfits down. ^_^' (Though I don't think I'm much over 600 right now... ..is that a lot..? lol)
Thank you all that have been working on this. :) We appreciate it! <3
