These hazy memories have been like a dream that Bubbles couldn't quite remember for he doesn't even know how long. How long has he been in the Underground? He knows that he likes the warm and dry earthy sub-terrestrial town, He doesn't like the water. He knows that, but not why. Except…he does know. He drowned. He was drowned. He was betrayed.
Bubbles' nightmare has manifested into corporeality and it threatens us all. The water swirls around us, we can't get enough air, our feet kick and push us only into more water. We will not go this way, we must beat this! Help Bubbles' face his nightmare now by picking up the Eerie Mash Tun from the Cash Shop and defeating the Drowning Betrayal!

@Sundown I was there for the first survival...I'll never forget how scary and ominous it was as everyone was getting infected and no one knew what was going on. We had to wear masks on our avatars to keep from being infected. You really got immersed in that fear and desperation, even if of course you knew it was only a plot. Survival is still fun, but nothing compares to the intensity of that first year.
oh WOW. i googled mash tun so i could know what the heck it was....and knowing its big as hell and for beer making stuff, it makes a lot of sense for the theories everyone has about Gunther betraying his brother. AND it makes me wanna read that man's subetapedia entry...hmmm.
Okay what does "Pappnase" mean, anyway, Google doesn't seem able to translate it?
And is there somewhere else we can discuss this? I had some thoughts but it doesn't seem like a news post is the best place for theories and such.

I have pondered quite often about how scary and weird it must have been 9 years ago, for people to suddenly start becoming zombies whilst on a pet site, that was a stroke of genius and very brave, users must have truly been worried and scared when they first saw signs of the changes. I wish I had been around then to experience it.
I have an INTENSE fear of drowning. I have trouble even putting my head under the water of a shower. This was such a crazy ride of a thing to read for me. I thank you so much for the warning, but I had to read it to find out what happened. Poor Bubbles!

I mean, people do stupid things (and pranks) when drunk. But the fact Gunter's SubetaPedia page states he's guilty because of what he did "over the brewery" implies that he killed him to obtain exclusive rights to the brewery (which opens a lot of theories up to why he'd want them).

Everyone saying it may have been a prank gone wrong should read the text again. The last bit literally sounds like Gunter pushed Bubbles in, closed the mash tun latch, and then filled it with water. That doesn't sound accidental??
I just want to thank staff for putting that warning there.

Finally it's no longer just hinted at. Though I actually didn't make the connection to his name eluding to his death, I just thought he was a fun humored guy.

!!!!! Gunter!!! Did this?!! I am in total shock. Omg. What in the world, talk about hidden depths. I'm amazed. How can we look at him the same? What did he stand to gain? What is the expression on his face in that wave, is it innocent? Is it malicious? So many questions!! Is this why he stopped the beer club??? What happened! We need him to talk!! Mmmm... Interesting beer this year, Gunter. It's a little hoppy, and I detect notes of oak, wheat, AND FRATRICIDE! I give it... three stars?

Also, someone-staffer- around here must have a drowning fetish that makes what, two drownings on site NPCs so far? It is either that or drowning is the only "acceptable" way to kill off someone? I do know that if a woman writes the character story then drowning or poisoning (something 'clean') is a more likely way for a character to die than if it were a man doing the writing/killing. Perhaps that is why, a team effort but the one(s) with the most sway are women?
Just a thought theory here but I am still thinking about it.

@SAMARITAN I would say that is a very likely theory. It is awesome that the Subeta team do all this excellent work that triggers users in all sorts of ways. It's an open forum to discuss all the things that we need to process without fear of judgement.

Another challenger that costs money. Sorry, have other stuff to spend CSC on. But the wave is really pretty.
Yeah it seems to me more like they were arguing like brothers do, and maybe Gunter was trying to play a prank but it went too far and he didn't mean to do it. It still happened though, so not excusing Gunter's behavior, but he does seem to feel bad about it.
As for how Bubbles became a zombie, IDK we'd need more info for that, but maybe he was only what some people might call "mostly dead" but Gunter dumped his body anyway and it washed up somewhere and he became infected? Who knows at this point though.

Has anyone considered that this might have been a prank gone horribly wrong? And that that's why Gunther is smiling? The item describtion says "There is an unsettling air around this mash tun... Like something unfortunate may have happened here.". "Unfortunate" doesn't exactly sound murder-y, does it?
Maybe Gunter has a murderous personality that takes control under certain circumstances, hence why the guilt only strikes when he's drunk? Because he doesn't remember otherwise?
