Meridjet is a psychopomp. Psychopomps are beings, usually birds, that aid the transition of souls between the land of the living and the realm of the dead. Sparrows typically escort a soul to the afterlife, and crows (for example) may escort a soul from the afterlife to take care of unfinished business.

Meridjet is a special Glade Lain psychopomp representing, and bonded with, a particular spirit that works intensely with Thelema (the Steamwork Sheeta) and the occasional lucky mutual friend. You might think of the spirit and the bird as one being with two forms.

Meridjet reflects a curiously attractive combination of light and dark energies. All beings have light and darkness within, and only those in harmony with their dual natures can lay claim to the full power of universal energies. While he understands darkness and may employ it as a means for the general promotion of personal evolution, the end is always to benefit the greater good. This may mean short term discomfort or even pain, but the ultimate result is the enrichment of the spirits of the people for whom Meridjet provides aid.

Some of the stranger items in Meridjet's treasure chest include Coffee and Trendy Black Glasses. Meridjet, in his astral form of a human male, is a big coffee drinker and can be seen wearing reading glasses despite the fact that he doesn't require them to read. He thinks they're sexy. Go figure. He enjoys playing practical jokes (that harm no one). He's an extrovert, somewhat vain, and is everybody's favorite person to seek out at a party. I like him just a bit, myself.

He has a fundamental opposition to the very concept of cheese, probably because I eat so much of it. Bad for you, you know.

He tends to wear doo rags, dress in ripped jeans (is there any other kind?), plain t-shirts and muscle shirts, and he wears chaps when he's on his motorcycle. He wears pajama pants (but not shirts!) to sleep in, when he wears anything at all. When working out, he favors sweats and old nasty wifebeaters. He also loooves his leather motorcycle jacket.

In his spare time, he likes to work out, play or watch sports (especially soccer), and fidget. He can't sit still for more than five minutes without going a little insane. He also enjoys taking foolish risks, especially in or on vehicles traveling at high speeds. He's a showoff, and is pretty sure he looks good doing it. He's an Aquarius, which means he hates anything resembling rules or restrictions, so don't tell him to be careful unless you want that to backfire!

His favorite color is blue. He's an enormous flirt, and has a risque sense of humor. If there's a double entendre comeback possible, you can be sure he'll use it. He's addicted to brownies, and has been known to use the puppy-eyes effect to get me to make them if it's been a while.

Meridjet appreciates anything to do with spirits or eternity. He also has a penchant for anything that would further his personal goal of basically having a good time.

Explanations of Certain Treasure Items

Writhing Corpse Scented Morostide Candle -- Well, he does help ferry the dead. But he, himself, also has a rotting corpse lying around somewhere, and he's fond of making jokes about its current condition. (Soupy, if you must know.)

Haunted Bookshelf -- He has a tendency to throw books at me in book stores. Things have a way of just falling off the shelves as I pass by, though I've touched nothing.

Magic 8 Ball -- Yeah. Sort of an in-joke. "Oh great spirit, please tell me what you seeeee...." Stuff like that.

Pearl of Wisdom -- In his defense, he is very wise. As well as wise ass.

Quicksilver -- Because he's a slippery son of a bitch.

Tiny Gold Crown -- I tend to refer to him as "His Majesty" because of his rather strong, uh, self-confidence. (We won't use the word "ego." We wouldn't want to make him go to his dark side...)

Toaster Pastry -- He's addicted to these nasty bits of cardboard and sugar. There's no accounting for taste.

Bloody Cookie -- TMI ALERT! Spirits like blood. So sometimes, you know, at that time of the month, I give him a special "moon cookie." Say it with me: EWWWW!

Ice Pack and Ambulance -- Remember those foolish risks? Consequences. Yep.

Various alcoholic beverages -- Even "higher beings" have vices. I'm just glad it's not gambling and prostitution.

Boxers of various types -- He has an extensive boxer collection. I could really show Subeta a thing or two about creative boxers.
