Imagine this, you've just bought a copy of the newest book in your favorite series, walked home, unwrapped it and sat down to read it. But, before you get too far in you remember about your pets on Subeta, so you come to the website, look at the main page, your eyes are drawn to the shoutbox and what do you see? The ending of the book posted in plain view.

This isnt just a story, this is actually happening here on Subeta. Hence forth, any spoilers in plain view (That includes shoutbox, IRC chat, sMail to people who didnt request it, and forums without spoiler warnings) will be punished with warnings. It is not to be tolerated.

I've already finished the book, but until I did, I didn't dare go on any chat boards or open the shoutbox. Spoilers are idiots. *shudders* Thanks for putting a clear warning to all idiots who want to spoil the book.

Oh Harry Potter. You're such a card.

Oh thank you, Spice! Exactly. I like finding out the "major event" in a book by myself. It completely ruins it for me if someone tells me before I read it. It's like sitting in a movie theater while some idiot behind you is talking about the movie you're seeing right then. It ruins it.

I kinda did ruin it for myself though. Whenever I get one of the Harry Potter books, I like to go through all the chapters and look at the pictures on the first page of those chapters before I start reading the book. Well, when I got to a certain chapter, I sorta glanced at the first line of the chapter and sorta figured out what had happened. So I ruined it for myself. But because it was myself that ruined it, it wasn't a big deal. But if someone else spoiled it for me without me even asking them to tell me what happened, I think that's just rude. Just my opinion

I don't think they should be banned cuz...why? It was freedom of speech..but they did ruin the ending for others, so maybe suspended 1/2/3 day(s) or something(for furture spoilers...cuz they didn't realize they might get punished)

Yes, well, I did atleast, had the book for 2 days and read it all. It is the best, maybe not the longest, but the best yet. And eyorexox0, we don't care if you care about "Herry Poptart" it's lazy people like you who bug lots of us. So good somewhere else if you don't like it, prat. o-o; Sorry, anyways, yes spoilers should be banned. *nods then walks off*

Thank you Cyde! It's nice to know that stuff like that isn't allowed on Subeta. The 6th Harry Potter book is the best ever. It doesn't deserve to be spoiled.

I finished my book yesterday morning..O_O..good thing i wasnt on subeta while i was reading..Though..Somehow my father knew the ending and told me...so..XD...It was spoiled ne ways..*curses*
0

User not found:

I finished my book a couple days ago. I'm so glad mine wasn't spoiled. I have had books spoiled before, such as order of the phoenix, which I can't remember where I read the spoiler, but it might have been on here. =/

I think for the sake of common manners, people shouldn't post spoilers. It does, spoil the book. Someone doesn't automatically flip to the ending, or hear about the twist in the plot, and want to read the entire book/watch the movie. No, because when you're reading/watching something, you go along with it at your own pace. Like an adventure.

Just wanted to say thanks again cyde. Stuff like this is the reason I lvoe subeta so much.

Someone told me the end of the 5th book so I couldn't even bring myself to finish it. Now, I don't know if I should be reading the 6th or not. ._.'
0

User not found:

i finished it in a little less than 4 hours. i don't know why people get so whiny when people ruin the ending of stuff. its just a book (ok so maybe a very good book). eh. if someone ruined the ending for me i'd glare at them, maybe, but then i'd get over it and realize that um it isn't THAT big a deal. because everywhere i've seen that gives away the ending doesn't say HOW what happens happens, just that it happens. so that makes it even less of a big deal because you still don't know the whole story. also, how do you know people aren't lying? if reading that spoils the ending for you, then you haven't finished the book and you don't know for sure. maybe people are just trying to trick you.
0

tatooiner

I finished it the same day it came out, in fact before the sun rose...

Spoilers really do ruin it, I got one part of it spoiled over a month before the book was released! And it's all my RL friend's fault for showing me the article with it... eh.

Nice to see you're taking a stand on it though! It's just cruel when people decide to wreck the mystery of a good book/movie for others.

thanks cyde... thankfully i usually keep the SB closed due to the mass annoyance that usually lingers there.. *coughs* but anyway... to the people that have read HBP already.... O_O OMGWTF??!!?? Thank you so much! Luckily it only took me a day to read (a day I didn't have any time to spend on Subeta), so the ending wasn't ruined.
herry poptart stinks. no offense to them who read it...

actually i would WANT to know the ending. then i wouldn't have to read the whole thing.

I myself know that if I want to know what happens, I can learn from Doom and Squeaky and one of my real life friends. I don't plan to read the books, I stopped after Goblet of Fire.

However, I know that in -all- spoilers, it's horrible and it disapoints you SEVERELY. I was kind of getting irritated when I saw the words "Harry did this blahdeblah" and "this happened blahdeblah," which ruins your day.

I'm wondering the same thing as Sparxz_and_Spyro. I talk about older books (especially the Vampire Chronicles) a lot in the Shoutbox to compare it to the movies based on them that are also quite old. I mean, there isn't much hype about those books/movies because they're old and anyone who wanted to read/see them had more than enough time to do so. I don't know, just wondering.
I'm tired of reading about Harry Potter in the shoutbox, so thank you. Not a big HP fan *hides*
0

errant

Indeed. I love this rule;; I was on another (-cough--cough-) forum and had the story ruined for me as well. It's like I go to forums to talk about something completely different--it wasn't even on a book or literary forum whatsoever and it's right there in the subject. Urrgghhh. e_e;;
0

SailorGundam06

I didn't really catch on to a friend of mine's status message after he had read the book until someone I know (who's brother had spoiled it for her) pointed out that his message was basically a spoiler. Me, being the curious idiot I am, reread the message and then promptly beat myself about the head with a broomstick. Okay... maybe I didn't beat myself, but I wished I'd had.
0

Naija

Wow if someone did that to me, gah I might just go on a murderous rampage. Good rule.

0

HEiRESS

Argh, personally I dont see the problem with spoilers though, after all the book is still just as good(or bad) whether or not you know how its gonna end.
0

Phil_299

Thanks so much, though I suffered the same fate as Bob. Hopefully it was all a bunch of dirty lies, I hate when people spoil an ending. I mean, a post like "Mail me if you want the ending." is fine by me, because it's your choice to learn the ending, or threads titled "Spoiler" would be fine, but when threads are titled as the spoiler, or someone enters the chat as their name the spoiler, it's hard to avoid it.
0

Cartoonival

Thanks, Cyde. I've been afraid of reading the shoutbox/forums, the last book was spoiled for me, and I don't want it to happen again.
0

Bob_476

Thank you, although it's a bit too late for that on my part - having had some person or another come into the IRC chat and ruin it for me. Although, apparently, at least one thing they said isn't true...maybe there's hope for me to actually enjoy the book after all - without spoilers. We'll see.
It's kinda mean that someone would want to spoil the book for everone else. Luckily I always have the shoutbox turned off so i wouldn't have seen the message.
I'm not really too interested in the harry potter books but I do appreciate the talent of the writer of course. J.K rowling is a pretty imaginative person!

0

User not found:

My friend already spoiled it for me, because it had been spoiled for her and she wanted me to be miserable, too... ._. Good thing I'm not that attached to the series or I would be really irate and all... *Goes of to read 'The Silmarillion' and 'The Phantom of the Opera' and watch 'Saving Private Ryan' and indulge myself in more seemingly worthwhile activities, seeing as I know just what happens and everything. Fun. (Not that I don't know what happens in all of the other books, but hey. xD)*

oh you're talking about harry potter right? dude that book probably ownz but it will be some time before i get to read it ...however if anyone feels like informing me whats happened so far of what they read i would enjoy learning how such great artwork of words and imagination turns out ....also if anyone has any old AND I MEAN OLD people video game adapters and rf switches laying around please mail me i need a few things

Thank you. I don't read the books but I do find it very rude how so many people are willing to ruin it for everyone else.
0

Would we have to give warnings for all spoilers of books & movies? I think this is a little... unrelated to subeta terms, but hey. You're the admin. =/

Crazypunka

Seeing that I read 2/3 of the book in about 4 hours, it won't be long until I finish, but I didn't want to go on any forum for that very reason. I knew that there would be people doing just that (telling endings and important secrets and such). Why ruin other's fun? It's just mean and rude. Thanks for warning against it!
