By now -- if you don't know already -- there's a bit of a war going on in the beautiful, usually peaceful land of Subeta. Why, you ask? The answer to that is simple. We'll take the time, now, to explain it to you as best we can.

What is Longcat?

The answer to this question is simple! Longcat is looooong. But where did Longcat come from -- and why is everyone so up-in-arms about this feline novelty? Well, Longcat can thank, for its beautiful existence, 2chan. [more information on 2chan can be found here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2chan]. Since its inception, Longcat has spread throughout the Internet like wildfire, reaching even the furthest corners of the globe with its looooooongness. It is a particular favorite of the members of 4chan [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/4chan] who have taken it on as one of their many [favorite] meme's [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meme] and use it as a sort of mascot. Yet Longcat's infamy is far-reaching! You will find his likeness all throughout the Web.

So why is Subeta under attack for its use, if it's used so widely? Well, there was -- and is -- a misconception that one had to pay actual money to be able to receive the Longcat item. There is even the fallacy that -- with a Gold [or paid] account -- it would be much easier to procure a Longcat for ones wardrobe. Now, we here at Subeta know this not to be true, so as a gesture of good faith, we made the Longcat massively available in our Giveaway, so that everyone had equal opportunity to get a Longcat to call their own in the easiest way possible. The Donation Corner. Again, this caused the members of 4chan [known generally as Anonymous] to become aggravated, as they did not at first understand that the Donation Corner was not Donations for the site, but for the users. Even after this was cleared up, the members had already taken personal affront to its usage and decided to increase the strength of their attacks.

At some stage, someone -- we do not know who -- took it upon themselves to make it look as if we had attacked their website in Subeta's name. An attack that we are investigating. Of course, this led to even more anger directed toward us.

Now, while we can sympathize with them wanting to ensure that their beloved Longcat was not used for profit, even after it was made abundantly clear through our efforts, they continued to attack and harass us, even going so far as to threaten lives. They have posted personal information that would enable their users to actually cause physical harm and harassment. There have been hundreds of threatening phone calls made in just the past 24 hours alone! The attackers even go so far as to insult their own site's host by posting information that could be -- and is -- legally damaging to him without regard to this.

Their attentions, if they were truly worried about Longcat being tarnished by personal gain, should have been placed on other sites that actually do profit from Longcat. Longcat merchandise can be found throughout the Internet. Anywhere from T-Shirt companies, to Art websites -- Longcat has -- and is -- being used for actual personal gain at these places. Yet they focused their efforts on Subeta.

Why, you ask? To be quite honest, we do not know. All we can do is what we have been doing. Their efforts -- while guised in strength and nobility -- are hardly that. They hide behind the face of Anonymity, because they know that they cannot be reached. Yet we stand strong and proud, not backing down, not hiding. This is true strength. This is true nobility.

Please be aware that these attackers know where the real heart of Subeta is, within our players. Do not follow any outside Subeta links without extreme caution. There is something known as phishing going around, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phishing, where the attackers hope to gain access to our users' accounts. The following is one such link, even in your deepest morbid curiosity, do not click on it, it is simply to educate. serve.quake.com/sub.eta/seb.uta-.58.ht.ml. If you come upon any links like that, do not fall for them. The link at the top must start with subeta.org.

The answer is not as simple as "removing the item" as many of you think it is. That would never have worked, unfortunately. They would have focused their attentions elsewhere on the site and gone after that until nothing was left. We hope that you understand this. The Subeta Staff, from the bottom of our hearts, apologize to you -- our users, our family -- for having to be exposed to this unnecessary, pointless war and thank you most sincerely for standing strong with us through this. We will continue to fight for you, as we have been.
