ARTISTS:

When we tell you that you are not supposed to draw for any other petiste other than Subeta.org, we mean it. It's not to cramp your style. It's not because we're mean. It's not because we don't want you making extra money freelancing. It's for the benefit of the site.

Subeta has worked very hard to have better art than any other petsite out there. Take a look at some of the competition. Our art is fantastic, and we're very proud of that fact and all of you. However, if you are splitting your employment between us and another site, you compromise this by giving them the same quality art you are giving us. This is unacceptable.

As always, if we find out that you are drawing for other petsites, whether it is one image or 500 images, you will be fired. End of story.

I'll do that, then. He should be careful of his policies; I'd really hate to have something bad happen to Subeta.

Talk to Keith about it, Chelle.

Please note that I'm more than happy to comply, as I'd NEVER consider working for another petsite, but Subeta seriously needs to consider the legal ramifications of this, particularly now that it's going to be a real business.

While I agree that the staff members should be limiting themselves to Subeta only -- it's part of the agreement, after all -- I find it ironic that Subeta is breaking the law in this fashion. If we are being reported as freelance, but being held to standard employee agreements, either the IRS is being defrauded or labor laws are being violated. Pick one.

I just want to add to this that it isn`t so much about leaking our staff-only information and ideas to other petsites. To be honest, once our ideas are released, it`s out there for anyone to steal anyway. The reason behind this is to keep us high quality. Take for example EV1/Kontenia. If someone can find EV1`s art on 293042 different petsites, why should they be loyal to just one? Why should people choose just Subeta as their main haunt?

We want to be both superior and unique, especially in quality of art. So, as Chimaera said. Artists can either work for us only, or for everyone else.

And yes, Fallen, Drea is correct. This rule does apply to all staff. We`ve avoided hiring UAs in the past because they were known to moderate on other petistes.

From the moment Keith said that we were not to work for other petsites, that was the rule, no exceptions.

That said, you count as freelance as far as taxes go for the time being, but you are not freelance or commissioned artists, as you work for us, and not on a per-item or per-pet basis.

Anyone found working for another petsite behind our backs will be fired. Any artists disagreeing with that rule are free to go.

I was always under the impression that our artists agreed to work exclusively for us when they were hired, and that that applied to all Staff, that none of us could work for other pet sites. I had always basically just considered "freelance" as a matter of semantics; even free-lance workers will ethically not take jobs that are in some way in direct conflict with each other.

Honestly Fallen, I didn't think any staff members could work for any other site As far as leeking information and whatnot.

And, I kinda see the point Raj. Cause we want our art unique and good, not to be exactly the same as the next petsite. Though I'm sure a raise would be nice ;P

I understand you guys are worried about competition from other sites, but for a large majority of us, this is a real job, not a hobby.

For example, my two years here is going on my resume for graduate school, and the money is going towards dorm payment. A couple of other people use the money earned here as supplementary pay.

Personally, I'm not working for another site right now. But when I was working for Chibipaws (which is now dead xD), I never talked about Subeta there, and vice-versa.

Fallen is right. We're freelance artists. We should be able to work wherever we want without reprisal.

I have a question. Since Keith told everyone we were freelance employees and were not to declare Subeta as employment on our taxes shouldnt the artists have a right, as should any staff member, to work for another site?
