Rule Change! In the past four years, Subeta has disallowed chatspeak, and had a list of allowed words. While this was (very) nice while we had a small user base, we've grown, and so has 'chatspeak'. People use it jokingly (I do! :P), etc.

So - we have removed the rule. If you've been given a warning in the past for it, your warning count will not go down, but that warning no longer counts (UAs can see what you've been warned for)

For those of you crying right now, because you're afraid of how the forums are going to start looking - don't worry. We've put in place a super cool chatspeak filter, that will slowly get better and better, and make annoying people less annoying ;)

Err. I don't know if I should jump for joy or shoot myself in the foot. o__o Guess I'll just have to wait and see, eh?
so, basically, another useless feature we could live without and just warn people for?

Mh...I won't understand a word? xD good...but I don't like chatspeak, in general. Anyway, now I know that =P
Awesome, let the wackiness begin!
Spiralex. Dude. I'm pretty sure giant chunks of all-caps does not equate to chatspeak. xD Dun' go TOO nuts, kk?
Cyn
The idea is that the filter will change chatspeak into real words. Things that get through now, will be added and changed later. The filter is awesome. ^^
ohmg you gaiz stup bein sew silay
bmg
chatspeak filter? hah. i'd test lit like i tested the cussword filter, but i don't know any chatspeak.
But I have to ask... you allow chatspeak, but you're just going to filter it anyway? What's the point?
HUZZA FOR WRITTING BAD ENGLISH AND KILLING OUR EDUCATION

If you were a girl, I'd love you Keith
I do use it jokingly, and was given a verbal warning for it that I found rather unfair. So yes, I do appreciate you lifting this rule. But the filter sounds like a marvelous idea!
LOLZ

bezt rewl sewfar!
Hm.... if someone got frozen for chat speak, does that also mean the warning that led to freezing is null and void?
Why would someone want to use it.. even joking? I could careless how the forum looks. Excess chatspeak is just hard to read. I thought this was one of the best rules on the site.
Interesting. But I still prefer to talk like I am educated. =)
eh. x.o i really liked that rule.
So we adults will need a dictionary when browsing the forums lol! I don't understand chatspeak at all!!!

Chatspeak is funny if used in moderation.

Victolee! I can't wait for the wank. <img src="http://www.subeta.org/images/smilies/6398_emoticon_grin.gif" border="0" />
People, seriously, chatspeak isn't going to kill you. Lighten up... please!

I hope the filter makes chatspeakers look even more illiterate and dumb, personally. <img src="http://www.subeta.org/images/smilies/6398_emoticon_raspberry.gif" border="0" /> That would be amusing. I use chatspeak only to mock it, because it's funny in moderation and when it's obvious it's intentionally joking.
"and make annoying people less annoying" Filters can do that? <img src="http://www.subeta.org/images/smilies/6398_emoticon_raspberry.gif" border="0" />
A filter? This sounds very science-fiction-y, doesn't it? Will it just filter out the posts that are nothing but chatspeak? <img src="http://www.subeta.org/images/smilies/6398_emoticon_wink.gif" border="0" />
Wow! This is great ^^ I haven't had a warning for chatspeak but the rule was pretty harsh...
Haha. Oh boy.

.. Does this apply to item descriptions, too? >:]

Interesting's one word for it. I wonder how this'll turn out. I personally jsut can't type in complete chatspeak. It's too hard to miss out letters. He he.
Way to sell out Keith.

Yes. <img src="http://www.subeta.org/images/smilies/6398_emoticon_smile.gif" border="0" /> I like this.
I will have to go see what the "chatspeak filter" does <img src="http://www.subeta.org/images/smilies/6398_emoticon_raspberry.gif" border="0" /> I use abbreviations sometimes, but I'm not sure if you consider them chatspeak! lol
hm, I'm interested in finding out more about this filter.
Hmm.. a filter, sounds interesting.. Will it also stop people with their whole messages in caps?
A filter for it? :3
Filter will make your lives easier.

hmmm ok fair enough
I'm not so sure about this. =/ I'm a huge chatspeak hater. I hope the filter works out.
Oh! A filter. I like this idea! <img src="http://www.subeta.org/images/smilies/6398_emoticon_smile.gif" border="0" />
Hm. Not sure if I like the or not. We'll have to see how that chatspeak filter works out...
Well, this is going to be interesting... 8]
