Cash Shop: Well Hung Meat

The room is brightly lit and smells metallic. Hooks dangle from the ceiling, red stains surround the huge drains on the floor. Somebody is laughing, a deep bellowing laugh that you've heard before, but it hasn't been so sinister as this. The laughter turns to screams. The fearful bleating of a beloved pet goat, mixed with the screams of man. A man that did not want to die. A secret hidden away from everyone. You can't run from it anymore.
Cheap Fabric Bolts will retire on July 1st.

say what you will about Neugarten, I had my own feelings about it and I still do. but I really like that this part of Gunter's backstory was addressed, and I do like the use of converting to veganism as a tool for him to try and atone for what he's done. I think the writing is clever and interesting. And if there is eventually some added consequence (anne/other npcs finding out? something else) even better.

I understand the concerns that people have with it seeming a bit too preachy and sort of pushing the "if you're not vegan then you're wrong" message, but I also feel like some of the backlash is excessive as well.
It's ONE holiday catering towards vegan/vegetarian folks, and that's it. Some of y'all are acting like they're never going to release non-vegan items ever again and that's just not the case. And with this challenger post, it's not really meant to be bashing all meat eaters. It's about Gunter specifically, and his backstory and some of the reasons why he ended up becoming vegan because he feels guilty about his past. It's reflective of a single individual character and his inner feelings.
Rah also posted in the feedback thread for the event saying that they're open to evolving the event into more of a general sustainability event in the future, so user concerns aren't being completely dismissed.
So anyway, I'm not even vegan I just think some people are being a bit too harsh.

Lol this is a personal phobia, yeah it's messed up to be like Gunter and vegans shouldnt have nightmares like that, but let's not forget that he also killed his brother and the last sentences clearly state that his fear about murdering animals is attached to Bubbles (also he was a butcher, so there's that, too, maybe a guilt for killing lots of animals with his hands)
Chill out, people, eat what you want, this isn't an attack, even because I'm almost sure that not the entire staff is vegan. You are all sounding like the reverse racism, heterophobia and christophobia people when a minor group get a space in society :P

So Gunter really became vegan to run away from his past, good to know I'm not crazy and was thinking too much into it.
By far the most disturbing challenger, Bubbles is straight out a 10/10 horror movie (and I love it).

I totally agree. Seems like it's being a little bit too pushy. If meat and vegan items were introduced in a equal way, I wouldn't be bothered by it. But here it seems like it's tipping too much in one direction, with one side being more highlighted than the other. Especially with this storyline. It's annoying how the responses to our concerns are so dismissive.

if anything happens to oatmeal im deleting myself from existence tbh. seriously though please dont hurt him i will die,

really not liking Gunter anymore; but enjoying the story... albeit a bit morbid. What's summer without horror? ;)

This is my first day back on Subeta in a loooong time and boy I could not have picked a better time to come back I am REELING....like what is happening omg.
@Altruism lmao no
none of the recent items are shoving ANYTHING down anyone's throat
the items are literally for vegans to enjoy, with informative, honest descriptions. not at all a personal attack on any of you.
veganism is 100% a positive thing and it's silly how pressed you all are over it. this post isn't even about the new items and you guys still took it personally.
there are a million and one things on site that cater to non vegans, so????

Plus, I doubt the Recycle Beast sends any minions sent his way to a nice farm upstate.

If your takeaway from this is "vegan guilt" you GOTTA step back from the computer and think it over again.
This is a story, and these are fictional characters.
I took this as a deeply troubled person trying to do anything within their power to prove to themselves they aren't an irredeemable person. In the case of this story, it happened to be going vegan. Kind of like how characters who've done something bad will dedicate themselves to a cause, or give to charities, to feel like they've atoned for their wrong-doings.
I get feeling a little singled out by the Neugarten post and items, but people are blowing this largely out of proportion, and this post in particular has...nothing to do with the vegan vs non-vegan debate that people have started.
Drama aside, YIKES, this is a lot. I hope we get some more follow up to this~
I don't follow the site lore super closely because I'm pretty new here, and so am kinda out of the loop, so being thrown into this little family murder mystery is interesting @ v @

it's not about the items existing. it's about the "meat is murder" plotline being shoved down our throats.
there's a right way to include veganism and a wrong way to include veganism, and this is the wrong way. I have zero problems with people who are vegan, but I have every single problem with the self-righteous types who personally shove their beliefs down your throat. I'm pescetarian btw.

They're explaining one fictional character's choice for switching to veganism. That's it.
so like..... is subeta starting not to welcome non-vegans anymore? it kinda feels like it lately...
They changed and moved Alegarten because they exhausted a lot of the ideas for it, it was an unpopular holiday and there were too many holidays in that same general time.
It isn't exactly a secret that most people who switch to veganism do it because they feel uncomfortable consuming or using animal products. You don't have to take it as a personal attack just because that reasoning is brought up. Subeta isn't trying to guilt you (as far as I know, most of staff eats a regular diet), so maybe just let people have their day in the sun and celebrate their choices- it doesn't mean you have to feel less confident about the things you like.
so many meat items and no one ever complained, now we get some vegan stuff and its meat shaming lmao
great story staff!!!
great story staff!!!
ngl kind of getting sick of the vegan guilt.
Why can't we all just eat what we want without shaming others?

Wow you guys...as a non-vegan im really starting to feel threatened by the amount of vegan inclusive items and characters around here lately...
Maybe we can have more items that guilt vegans as a balance? I mean, plants do have feelings too :^/
I really thought the Subeta team would be above guilting people about eating meat but I guess not
nah jk but that does sound like some dumb shit someone would say round here doesnt it

Oh man, Bubbles was about to feed Oatmeal into the abattoir to be some goat sausage and Gunther snapped??!?!?! BRUH

Regardless of how you feel about veganism in general, I hope this can at least put to rest some of the complaints that Gunter's change doesn't make any sense.
Interesting challenger. I'm still curious to see if anything comes out of this with the other NPCs.

oh. well that sort of addresses the whole "BUT WHAT ABOUT BUBBLES???" that we've been seeing a lot lately ahaha
That item is incredibly unfortunately named though. Or... fortunately, if you care for that sort of thing. :p

I never noticed who was behind the curtain until Greg posted a closeup!
OMG! shivers

@WinterMoon - FWIW it doesn't seem like anyone tried very hard to find out who killed Bubbles. Maybe it was one of those "Goodbye Earl" situations.

When I saw the news alert for Well Humg Meat, I thought we were getting something durrty, not emotional scarring. Great writing and art, as always. Horrifying, but I’m so glad to be a part of such a creative community!

Ok the story is just creepy. But just seeing the name I cough completely conjured up the wrong meaning cough Ahem. lol

@Purge
So in anticipation of the release of well hung meat, you decided to celebrate with some smoking hot meat?
Hell of a party, there.

n/m, just reread the story and the "fearful bleating" came after the "sinister laughter" turned to screams. So I still think Bubbles was gonna do something wicked, but not necessarily to Oatmeal. Don't mind me, a bit airheaded today.

never going to read the news posts on these challengers, but "Well Hung Meat"
snicker
snicker

1. When I saw the news post alert that said "Cash Shop: Well Hung Meat," I immediately assumed it was a new item related to Elwood. True fact.
2. From the story up there, I get the impression that Gunter killed Bubbles because Bubbles was hurting/was about to hurt Oatmeal in some way. That makes me feel a wee bit better about Gunter. NO ONE HURTS OATMEAL.
